also since im fully nerding out rn i had theories abt true names back b4 half the cohort got them so theyre a bit outdated
cassie (my queen) - cassandra of troy, she had sight of the future given to her by apollo but once she rejected his advances he made it so noone would believe them... sounds like cassie to me.. and also this could be why her aspect is not divine, since cassandra was mortal. both of their visions ended in a form of disaster (troy, sunny's banishment from fate and also his hatred of cas after her betrayal) yikes
nephis - probably nephilim from the bible cus of the half angel half mortal stuff and her hollowborn birth but i prefer the theory abt it being the egyptian goddess Nephthys (names r almost a perfect match) who was the daughter of geb and nut and is associated w mourning, childbirth, the dead, protection, HEALING AND MAGIC the links r so clear like she restrained herslf from mourning her mother, her whole fams dead she can heal boom
heart gods more difficult.. so in the other comment gaia was a good contender but i feel like theres something missing idk.. ive been thinking demeter just cus of the hunger stuff, since she cursed that one guy to remain hungry forever and sent the world into a famine when persephone was kidnapped but the rest doesnt fitttt then theyres psyche β her name means soul we're on the right track, so basically she married eros (son of aphrodite ver) and became the godess of souls, showing growth from mortal to immortal? idk she was obviously hungry for knowledge of her husbands appearance when she dropped that oil on him by accident and her daughter 'hedone' is the personification of pleasure so emotion works !! i think she fits decently, but obviously it could still be hades since he has dominion over souls and stuff as a psychopomp
okay back to storm again, poseidon, seen in the linear a or b scripts i cant remember rn, was a cthonic (underworld) deity when worshipped by the phoncians and actually married to persephone so these underworld-y connections work well with storm having domain over darkness. OR it could be oceanus, as his daughter is the river styx which is an underworld river
sun - definitely apollo, creation, passion (the guy has a crap ton of lovers of all genders), destruction (god of plagues), fire (sun god), light (sun god), destruction again maybe since he took the place of helios?? idk
shadow - hades..? at the very least his domain but also thanatos cus he's peaceful π. hades was the last god to be thrown up so therefore the youngest, like shadow, and also seemingly inevitable bcs in the myth of sisyphus, even though he evades him twice, he still ends up in hades. peace works ig cus hes generally a chill guy and solace works as well bcs he welcomes the heroes into elysium
oh my god youre so right with the nyx and erebus stuffff omg omg cus before their children (hemera and the other one) were born there was no day so obvi there was no light = only shadow omg. and dream god being tartarus is so good bcs in the hesiod tartarus (dream god) fathered something which sought to destroy the gods, typhon (similar to the daemons!!!!) to me gaia doesnt rlly feel like the heart god but i can see the connection cus her 'emotions' around uranus being a s*it father led to her encouraging her children to 'grow' strong enough to kill him so yeah i see it and the hunger connections obvious with her being the land

So I'm refreshing my mind on the old tales through the wiki. It's been almost a Decade since the last time I delved into mythology. I'm also around the same chapters as you, 2310. Most probable, despite the word chaos being thrown in the novel, the most fitting would be the flame of divinity which the gods were born from. Getting the primordials out of the way, logically, Erebus is NOT Shadow since Erebus is darkness, while Nyx seems to be the logical option. Nyx is the personification of night, so after dawn, so devoid of light, lost from light you might say. Shadow being Nyx seems logical here. Erebus seem to be the darkness beyond nothingness, or what it was called. Funnily, the dream god can be considered as Tartarus, suffering in the abyss, while Gaia for me is the heart god due to both personalizing growth. Eros is a bit on the gray right now. For some reason my brain is thinking sun, but it's a nobrainer it's a stupid though. God, I have so many wiki tabs to keep up π
so there wasnt enough space in my last comment but ive been tryna link up the gods with greek gods so here r my theories
storm- poseidon (duh water stuff) but also the 'calamity' aspect cs the greeks called him "earth-shaker" cs they thought the oceans caused earthquakes
beast- artemis bcs of hunting, moon, wild animals but the birth bit works too cus of her helping to deliver her twin apollo π and the death aspect cus her hunters r immortal
war- okay imo its a mix of aphrodite areia and athena.. athena for obvi reasons, warfare, craft, intelligence allat but aphrodite areia who was a localised ver of aphrodite worshipped in sparta also has war-like aspects (cus of sparta) and the life aspect works cus s*x, sexuality, passion, beauty, all these lead to new life (most of the time) so there the life bit. and and she has two v diff birth stories (in one of them she came from castrated ballsacks) so even more life/birth connection (someone pls respond so i can fit the rest of them)
ikr its super cool once u spot stuff it all clicks into place !! ur so right abt the daimon stuff with elpis u explained it way better than me ππ also if 'eros' is desire and the void is 'chaos' what do u think direction is cus im stumped like all i can think of is maybe 'gaia' cus she created ouranos and thru them came the titans and zeus whos the king of the gods so a sort of ruler?? "order"?? ykwim?? yeah its a shaky theory at best

As someone somewhat versed in greek mytholody, literally had to read Odysseus in high school, yeah, there are plenty of references to old greek mythologies and tales. It's somewhat refreshing because it in tandem with the abstract futuristic-modern approach of the book makes it weirdly unique. Like how many animals known to us such as rhinos are extinct, or how honey is frowned upon by Sunless when we eat that daily. G3 also using much older tales gives it another depth. But to be fair, you brought up some interesting points with arachne and Elpis. Funnily enough, if you dwelve a bit deeper into Elpis, she was renowend as either a god or Daimon, which is also spelled as Daemon. Moreover, the word Daimon itself is neutral and can be positive or negative. It is also translated into either "god", "godlike", "power" or "fate". Now you got me browsing the wiki π€£. I'm invested.
i might have accidently assumed that evb knows some greek mythology and not explained that well ππ
Why does none of this make sense to me?
also since im fully nerding out rn i had theories abt true names back b4 half the cohort got them so theyre a bit outdated

not enough space :(
u should so get into it it influences so many stories nowadays like cassie is inspired by a myth and i would say song is inspired by medea in a way
Idk a single thing abt Greek mythology but it seems interesting, tbh
