Chapter 174: 013: Spiritual System’s Attack
"Sir, it’s him." The man spoke respectfully to the woman beside him.
The woman was a young witch who appeared to be in her early twenties. Her deep-set eyes, pale skin, and exquisitely beautiful face made her seem more like a painting than a person. Her light purple hair cascaded down her waist like a waterfall, every gesture exuding an irresistible allure and intoxicating charm.
"What a delightful fragrance..."
"Such a stunning young lady..."
As she approached, the surrounding crowd seemed bewitched, swallowing nervously while gazing at her with infatuated eyes, instinctively parting to clear a path.
Lynch raised an eyebrow.
This scent... It’s Phantom Rosemary.
This was a peculiar magical substance, possessing a unique aroma that could unconsciously immerse one into visions of beauty and joy. It belonged to one of the Spiritual System’s magic plants.
Aside from Phantom Rosemary, Lynch also recognized that this witch had silently cast several Spiritual Magic spells on him, such as [Banshee Temptation] and [Intoxication]. These were the main reasons for the crowd’s irrational behavior.
A rare Spiritual System wizard, indeed...
Lynch quietly cast a [Awakening] and a [Spirit Purification] spell on himself. Both were Spiritual Magic capable of strengthening the Sea of Consciousness and dispelling harmful spiritual effects.
Over the past decade, Lynch had studied a fair number of Spiritual Magic spells. Anything below Wizard Level was effortless for him to counter.
At the same time, the woman had already reached Lynch’s stall. Her luscious red lips parted slightly, releasing a voice that sent shivers down the spine, "Little brother, were these items made by you?"
Another Spiritual Magic spell!
"What an enchanting voice, like a mermaid’s song."
"I’ve fallen for her."
The surrounding crowd seemed electrified, their souls appearing momentarily detached from their bodies.
Meanwhile, Lynch himself froze for a brief moment.
Not because the woman’s spell was too powerful and breached his spiritual defenses, but because he recognized the spell itself.
Could it be... This spell is [Seductive Whisper]?
[Seductive Whisper] was a highly potent Spiritual Magic spell that infused the spiritual field into one’s voice, enabling direct attacks via sound. It was subtle yet devastating, rendering the target utterly helpless and fully susceptible to the caster’s control.
Lynch’s heart quivered slightly, disbelief washing over him.
[Seductive Whisper] was no common spell; it was a secret technique from a particular Wizard Organization. Regular wizards wouldn’t even recognize it.
Lynch recognized it because he’d read about it in Richard’s journal. It was described there that the creator of [Seductive Whisper] was none other than an acquaintance of his—Shadow Swamp.
Moreover,
In Shadow Swamp, aside from Wizard Morris, only one apprentice had mastered this spell—the apprentice who inherited Wizard Morris’s spiritual legacy, Richard’s senior disciple, Frey’s Apprentice.
"Could it possibly be such a coincidence?"
Lynch found it hard to believe such a chance encounter amidst the boundless sea of people.
But as he compared the description from Richard’s journal—light purple hair, manicured nails, an overtly flirtatious demeanor—it matched perfectly.
While Lynch was momentarily stunned, the woman mistook his reaction for being spellbound by her beauty. She raised her voice slightly, repeating, "Little brother, were these items made by you?"
Lynch snapped out of his thoughts. Hesitating for a moment, he feigned a dazed look and nodded, "Yes... I made them all."
Whatever schemes this woman was planning, it was better to observe for now.
The woman moved closer to Lynch, her neckline revealing a glimpse of her slender neck and delicate collarbone, stirring imaginations.
Extending a single finger, she playfully tugged at Lynch’s belt, saying, "Little brother, I need a small favor from you. Can you help?"
Lynch replied, "Please go ahead."
The woman said, "It’s like this: I need you to assist me in a biological transformation, modify a friend’s body. Is that okay?"
Transformation?
Lynch responded, "Of course, anything you require."
A satisfied smile curled at the woman’s lips. She nodded and continued, "Then come with me."
After a brief pause, she turned to the surrounding crowd and gave a radiant smile, "If anyone else is interested, you can all come along."
"Oh yeah!"
"Yes, my queen!"
The crowd, thoroughly bewitched, formed a protective circle around Frey as they followed her out.
Lynch, maintaining his act of being enraptured, quickly packed up his stall and joined the procession.
Leaving behind the battered streets, then departing the outskirts of the marketplace, they steadily moved away from the Underground City’s market area.
This was exceedingly dangerous.
Within the marketplace, attendees were under the protection of the Golden Carriage, preventing any fighting, killing, or theft. But outside the marketplace, there was no such safeguard. Especially considering this was the Gray Witch Domain, should something happen, no one would intervene.
And yet, Lynch followed—
Spiritual legacy.
According to Richard’s journal, Wizard Morris’s spiritual legacy was entrusted to this very Frey. Her movements within Shadow Swamp had always been elusive. Now that they’d finally crossed paths, it was an opportunity to seize.
Lynch quietly calculated his next steps.
The woman led Lynch to an open space, not far from the marketplace edges, where a line of carriages awaited.
"Everyone, step aboard and take a good rest; relax to your heart’s content."
"Yes."
"Yes... Absolutely."
The crowd stepped into the carriage.
Though the exterior seemed modest, the interior was shockingly spacious—designed like a grand palace, with intricately crafted columns, polished floors, and even a large pool.
The aroma of Phantom Rosemary filled the hall, creating an atmosphere akin to the fabled Kingdom of Heaven.
"Heehee."
"Hahaha."
A chorus of silvery laughter rang out as a group of strikingly beautiful maidens emerged from various rooms in the hall. Dressed only in translucent gauze skirts, their enchanting figures played tantalizingly with the imagination.
"Gulp..."
"Beauties... True beauties..."
"Is this the Kingdom of Heaven?"
The wizards’ eyes practically bulged, their veins surging feverishly as they repeatedly swallowed their saliva.
In a soft, gentle voice, the woman said, "These are specially arranged for everyone’s enjoyment. Please, indulge yourselves to your heart’s content."
"Oh yeah!"
"Absolutely incredible!"
The crowd, long beyond restraint, rushed forward like wild horses, each seizing a maiden. Gauze skirts were stripped, and the scene devolved into an uninhibited frenzy—on columns, on floors, mid-air embraces, even in the water.
What had started as a harmonious atmosphere instantly morphed into complete chaos.
Lynch stood aside, uncertain how to maintain his facade. Fortunately, the woman turned to him and said, "Please wait a moment; I’ll personally attend to you shortly."
Lynch sighed with relief, "Alright... Sure."
"Let me first take you to a room to rest; it’s quite chaotic here."
The woman led Lynch to an adjacent room before leaving.
The room had a window that provided a view outside. By now, the carriage had already picked up speed, the scenery outside shifting rapidly, with the vehicle traveling at speeds exceeding 200 mph.
Yet, despite the extreme velocity, the carriage dodged every obstacle effortlessly, without a single collision or even the faintest sense of turbulence inside.
"This carriage isn’t cheap, is it?"
Such a mode of transportation was precisely what Lynch lacked for his travels—his usual option consisted mostly of relying on his own legs.
The carriage raced for hours, continuing into the night, until it entered a dense forest and began to slow down.
"Knock, knock!"
Not long after, there was a knock at the door, followed by the sound of the latch turning open.
The woman entered. "We’re here."
Lynch followed her outside.
In the hall, the earlier scenes of chaotic revelry had come to an abrupt end, leaving only silence in its wake.
Those who had followed alongside Lynch now lay scattered in the hall as lifeless corpses.
The previously beautiful maidens revealed their true forms—pale-skinned humanoid monsters with rows of razor-sharp teeth in their mouths.
Forest Beldams...
These were mid- to high-level apprentice-tier banshee demons, inherently cruel and bloodthirsty. Gifted with exceptional disguise abilities, they could transform into lost girls pleading for help, only to slaughter and devour their victims without warning.
At present, these Forest Beldams were feasting on the corpses, tearing them open to devour the innards. The once-pristine pool had turned into a gory blood pool, its pungent stench permeating the air.
The heavenly realm from earlier had transformed into the pits of hell.
The woman’s gaze briefly flicked to Lynch, noticing his lack of reaction. She continued to lead him, taking him off the carriage.
They arrived at a clearing deep within the forest, where a campfire burned brightly at the center. A solitary man sat beside it.
He was an odd figure, standing over three meters tall, half of his body constructed from mechanical parts, gears, and various alchemy objects. His muscular-mechanical hybrid arms hung heavily down to the ground.
Lynch froze.
He recognized this man—it was none other than the alchemist who had once instilled primal fear in him.
