Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 76: The stone of Helga
Chapter 76: The stone of Helga
As minutes passed away, the three spent quite some time together before Hamon rose up from his seat.
"It was nice meeting you, Sister-in-law, but unfortunately I have to leave." He said as he made to leave. Ara also rose up, "Alright, I’ll see you off." She followed suit.
As they walked along the corridor, Hamon turned to Anne who was following quietly behind them, "I heard you said earlier that you wished to tour the castle?"
Anne nodded, "Yes, Your Highness..."
"Hmm. I’ll invite the both of you next time, you can tour around the whole place."
"Oh my! Really?" Anne’s face flushed in excitement. Her feelings could easily be read on her face. Hamon smiled at her as he nodded. Ara who was watching the both from the side spoke.
"Thank you, Your Highness."
"Nonsense, Your sister is also my sister now." He said in a matter of factly tone then turned towards Anne, "You can call me brother-in-law from now on."
"R-really...brother-in-law!"
Hamon looked pleased as she called him that, his faced showing a satisfied expression as if he’d gotten what he wanted. Anne grinned even more, she couldn’t help but be ecstatic that her idol was now her brother-in-law. She was also happy to see that he treated her sister so well, it was apparent that he really cared about Ara, and the most important thing was that they both seemed to get along really fine.
Ara gazed at her cheerful sister with a gentle expression, the girl’s happiness never failed to lighten her mood. While Hamon stared at Ara with a small smile on his face, her gentle expression, and how freely she’d been acting around him gave him immense satisfaction. Suddenly their eyes met, she smiled at Hamon with an expression that says, "Thank you." While he just shook his head to say, "It’s nothing."
Ara walked Hamon to his carriage. Contrary to her worries earlier, his visit to the Boxton mansion was a success.

An old mansion stood tall on a deserted area in the south. Inside the humongous antique looking mansion. Ulric stood patiently inside a room-like study room. He’d suffered major injuries when he was pursued by Merek and the Prince’s men, but he had recovered much in a short period of time.
In front of Ulric was a man seated gracefully with his legs crossed leisurely on a reclined seat, but his face was hidden in the shadows as the room was dim. The man suddenly spoke up after a while of silence, his voice sounded low and gruff however with an authoritative tone in his words.
"You did a great job. Your search was right this time, No doubt the necklace the lady has is the right one, given that the Prince and the lady are a couple."
Ulric had never once asked questions about any mission he was assigned to before, So far, he was fine with only being paid anyway. But for the first time in all his mission, he was captivated by an unbearable curiosity.
"My Lord...May I ask a question?"
The man did not respond, but it was apparent that he was waiting for his question.
Ulric continued, "I need to know more about the mission am assigned to. One thing has been bothering me though...What in heavens name is the stone of Helga?"
"Ha ha ha!" The man’s laughter filled the empty room as he slowly moved his face into the light. His grey eyes were sharp and fierce, lit with an incredibly cunning light, looking straight at Ulric, who gulped down out of fear. The man was none other than Cornell.
Cornell leaned back against the chair as he said, "Curiosity kills a cat. You know that, don’t you?"
"I...I apologize, My Lord." Ulric bowed deeply.
"It’s no need, I’ll tell you everything there is to know about the stone since you’ll need to have little knowledge about the mission." He stated gravelly.
Ulric swallowed at the sound of Cornell’s grave sounding tone. Ulric considered the current king a Fox in a tiger free forest. He was certain a day would come when Cornell would rise to the throne and defeat king Fredrick. If he could bet on Cornell, he would have bet an entire fortune. That was how fierce of an opponent Cornell was.
Cornell began, "The stone used to be a pure magical stone, which was made by the witch named Helga. But as years went by, people started to discover about the kind of power the stone held and fought for it, in the process they killed Helga. Long story short, whoever possesses the stone, could make a wish upon it. It does anything you ask of it."
"..."
"But since the stone was later broken in half, it’s powers isn’t as strong as it was made to be. After I get both the halves, I’ll need a witch to perform the rites needed to merge both pieces together. The power will become even stronger with the complete stone."
Ulric’s brows drew together, "But, my Lord. We only know where the half is, what about the other half of the stone?"
Cornell laughed darkly, "It’s with the crown Prince, it was given to him by his witch of a mother before she died."
Witch? Magic stone? Was the myth about the stone of Helga real? Ulric stared at Cornell in disbelief, but Cornell continued without a stop at his disbelief,
"The stone had been lost for generations, but one half was brought by Margaret the crown Prince’s mother! She had made a wish upon the stone before she died...It annoys me to no end, that nasty witch of a woman, I never got to know what she wished for before she died, but..." He paused for a moment then continued, "I am certain she’d wished something for her bastard of a son!" He rebuked in frustration.
He resumed,"I do not care if it’s a myth, I need that stone no matter what." After a small pause he looked up at Ulric, "I need you to find a witch now that we know where the stone is."
"Find a witch?" Ulric questioned bemused.
"Yes, after I get the stone from them. I need a witch to perform the necessary spells in order to merge the stone back into one."
While Cornell spoke he stroked his beard with one hand, "Since you once told me the other half with the lady has turned dark red, it means she’d also already made a big wish upon the stone. So I want you to keep an eye out for anything suspicious."
Ulric could not understand Cornell’s explanations even after hearing it. But as he saw how his master was serious about getting the stone, he knew it was not a child’s play. And if the duke believed it so, it was certainly not something he would dismiss lightly.
"If she had made a wish, then it may have already come true, right?" Ulric questioned.
"Definitely, that’s why I need both the stones from them as soon as possible...and I want you to look for the witches in Greenwood before I get my hands on the stone."
"Yes, my Lord. I’ll do as you say, but what about the couple?"
"There’s no need to interfere in their relationship or what they do. I want the marriage to happen, so it makes things easier. Just keep an eye on what happens around them and report to me."
"I understand, my Lord." Ulric did not fully understand the existence of the stone, but it must be important if Cornell was so cornered, he was thrilled for the little knowledge he learned about the stone.
"One more thing...I’ll give you command to the slayers."
"M-my Lord..." Ulric’s voice shook, the shock from Cornell’s words had his legs shaking in excitement. It was a natural reaction to anyone who knew who the slayers were. They were the highly skilled well trained group of killers raised by the duke himself.
"You need some more support on the mission. You can command the slayers anytime you need them. And make sure to always keep an eye on the crown Prince and lady Boxton’s every moves."
"Yes, my Lord!" At Ulric’s reply, Cornell waved his hand in dimissal, "You can leave." He bowed his head then left.
Left alone in the dim lit room, Cornell smirked at how he was going to hit two birds with one stone. What a coincidence that they both had each half of the stone, it made his plans a lot more easier, "This is going to be an exciting ride for me!" He laughed evilly at his plans.
He could already imagine being the most powerful person in all the four lands. He’d make them all worship him! With such power and might that the stone of Helga would bring him, he could do anything, he would finally get the respect he deserved after all the humiliation he’d received all these years.
