Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 71: Angry father

Chapter 71: Angry father

As the sun began to set behind the horizon. The Boxton holiday mansion was buzzing to prepare for Richard’s arrival.

Richard who lived mostly at the training quarters of the soldiers, had sent a message saying he would be coming back to the holiday mansion tonight. Ara knew it was an opportunity to tell her father about her relationship with Hamon. And somehow she had a feeling her father was coming back because he’d heard of the rumors.

"My father is coming back tonight, so please pay extra attention to the kitchen cook, she should not add too much fat to the food."

"Yes, my lady." The butler bowed then left to go to the kitchen.

It hadn’t been long since the butler had started working there, but he was doing an excellent job managing the small mansion. As the butler walked away, she took a deep breath and told herself for the hundredth time.

’You can do this, Ara!’

Telling her sister about her relationship with Hamon was much more easier compared to telling her father.

As the evening approached, Ara had already gathered all the servants in the mansion at the entrance to welcome the general’s arrival. Even though Richard was a general, he usually rode in the carriage instead of his horse. But this time, Ara saw her father racing towards them on his horse.

’Why is he on a horse this time?’

Richard’s horse stopped in front of the mansion in no time, and he swiftly dismounted the horse. He had a displeased look on his face as he strode towards Ara.

"Welcome back, My Lord."

Richard ignored the butler’s greeting and stopped right in front of his daughter.

"Arabella, What the hell have you been doing around the kingdom, and what are the rumors I’ve been hearing?!" He yelled in a searing tone.

Ara flinched in shock, but she understood what her father meant. He must have heard about the rumors, but there was another question at the tip of her tongue.

Which of the rumors did he hear?

She wasn’t sure whether her father was talking about the false rumors about her being a whore or the one with the crown Prince.

However, if her father had heard about the scandalous rumors about her, he would have rushed to the mansion much sooner than now. Given that this was when he showed up, it was likely he was talking about the one with the crown Prince.

’I hope he doesn’t know about the other rumors.’

Ara was sure her father hadn’t heard about the other rumors, maybe he had just heard about her relationship with the crown Prince and came running back home. Although her father was blunt and did not express himself well, she still believed he had love for her somewhere in his heart.

Ara replied in a calm voice, hiding her shaken gaze, "I’ll tell you everything after dinner. Come in fi_"

"That’s enough, Am not hungry. I want an explanation from you first."

"Alright, father."

She couldn’t disobey her father. Ara dismissed all the servants who came to welcome him, then followed behind her father to the study room. Anne also hurriedly followed after her sister.

As they reached the study room, Richard pushed the door open and went in first. Ara made to follow but stopped when she noticed Anne was following behind her.

"Anne, it’s fine. You don’t have to come with me, I’ll handle everything myself."

"But am worried father may scold you."

Anne did not miss how their father had arrived with stormy rage written all over his face. She didn’t know the reason, but she could guess it was about the crown Prince. With their father in that fury mood, the chances were high that the conversation would turn south.

Ara smiled,"You don’t have to worry. Just wait out here, I’ll call you when I need you inside_"

Richard’s voice loudly raged from the inside, "What are you still doing out there, aren’t you going to come in?!"

"Coming, father." Ara quickly patted her sister’s back before hurrying inside where Richard was already waiting impatiently for her. Anne wanted to say something but the door swung shut.

Richard intently watched his daughter as she came into the room, he didn’t wait for her to sit and went straight to the point.

"I want you to tell me the truth about the rumor."

"I am not sure which rumor you’re asking me, I_"

THUD!

Richard slammed his fist on the table, "I’m asking you about the crown Prince! I heard you met in secret, was that how I raised you to be?!"

"..."

Ara stopped talking at her father’s sudden burst of outrage. Richard was a commander of discipline who never shouted or did anything violent in the house. Her brother was also the same. Ara was a soldier in her past life, she knew better how difficult it was for people in that profession to maintain a decent personality.

For some reason or another, most soldiers were eccentric and fierce, and the taverns in the villages were always crowded with mercenaries.

At first Ara couldn’t decipher their wild moods, but she eventually came to an understanding as time went by. It was a feeling known only to those who had blood on their hands. The more you saw death, the more you felt like your mind was falling apart.

Even the ever composed Ara could not cool her emotions when she first joined the soldiers in Greenwood. She’d thought she would run crazy from the amount of deaths she’d witnessed on the battlefield. A multitude of thoughts would torment her mind. Thoughts like; did the people she killed on the battlefield have family? Those words had hunted her like a shadow.

She’d gone through a lot being a soldier. Ara wondered if her father was going through all those kinds of emotions.

She’d tried not to be hurt at her father’s frustrations and anger.

She finally parted her lips to say, "The rumors are true, but you_"

Richard cut her off, "Which of the rumors? The one that says my daughter is a whore? Or the one that says the Boxton eldest daughter made the crown Prince cut off the head of an important elite?"

"Y-you know about that too?"

Her father had heard about the vicious rumors Claire had spread! but...still he’d first asked her about the crown Prince?

Ara took a deep breath to force her rising anger back. She’d hope there would be some mentioning of the Tudor daughter’s name from her father’s mouth so she could explain who started those bad stories about her. But her father didn’t seem to want to know anything about it, but had only asked about the crown Prince first.

"What is your relationship with the crown Prince?" He asked curiously.

’How could you be like this, father?’
