Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 72: Never shad tears
Chapter 72: Never shad tears
’How could you be like this, father?’
The rumors that she went to see different men every night must have been more than what a father could bear, but her father was more curious about her relationship with the crown Prince than... his daughter?
Ara glanced at her father she felt a stab to her chest. She wanted to deny what she’d been thinking, and she wanted to ask him directly.
’Do you really care about me?’
She had always came after Henry and Anne, but she had always believed that her father loved her too. For once, she wanted to feel his warmth as a father, to make him proud and make him smile but...
Maybe this were things that would never happen no matter how much she went back in time.
"Arabella!" Richard snapped when she wasn’t answering.
Ara quickly put herself together, she’d practiced what to say to him in the mirror a countless time. She began without a slightest choke.
"The crown Prince and I met some time ago, we came across each other by chance and fell in love. And we’ve been having a secret relationship since then."
"Then why didn’t you tell me about your relationship when I told you about the marriage proposal that came for you?"
"I...back then I wasn’t sure if you’d agree For me to be with the crown Prince."
Back then she only told her father about her ideal type of man in case her contract with Hamon did not push through. Since marriages were decided by the head of the household, she thought it was better to let him know what kind of man she wanted.
Ara’s original plan was to have the wedding with Hamon after the grand ball, but now the situation had changed because of Claire.
Richard gazed at his daughter with a disappointed look, "I never expected this from you, you know you’re no match for the crown Prince but still you went meeting him in secret. How could you do such thing, Arabella?"
"..."
Ara was struck mute as always. She couldn’t bring herself to reply to her coldhearted father. There was Henry who was the heir to the family, and Anne who was cared and protected by him, but her...He was always harsh on her.
’When will you learn to treat me well, father?’
The words she couldn’t say hovered at her mouth, she’d done everything for this family, but her father had never acknowledged her hard work.
When Ara wasn’t saying anything, Richard was about to scold her again, when suddenly the door banged open and Anne stepped in impatiently
"Father! Aren’t you being too harsh on her?"
Richard’s brow furrowed with Anne’s sudden appearance, "Aren’t you stepping out of the lines, young lady?"
Ara quickly turned to her sister to not meddle, but Anne didn’t heed to Ara’s warning signs and continued to speak.
"No, I’m not father! My sister loves the crown Prince so much! Is that not enough for you to give your blessings to their relationship?!"
"Do you hear yourself, Anne? Your sister is not fit for the crown Prince, she’s too lighthearted to be by his side. If she wants to be married into the royal family, her love doesn’t matter. It’s about if the crown Prince wants her or not!"
Richard’s voice was cold as he said those words. Ara knew what her father meant so well. He was a general and a servant to the royal family, he was the kind of man who fought for the royal family rather than his. At the moment, her father was not talking as Ara’s father, but as a servant of the royal family. And that was why Ara was upset with his words.
Anne snapped furiously, "So you mean to say that regardless of my sister’s feelings for the crown Prince, his mind matters only? Would they be in a relationship if His Highness doesn’t love her? He’s even interested in marrying sister, father!"
Richard looked at his younger daughter with an interested expression then turned to Ara, "Is what she said true? He’s interested in marrying you?"
"Yes, Father. His Highness said he will come to visit you to talk about the marriage with you in person."
Anne quickly turned to her father and spoke in a triumphant voice, "Did you hear that? Why wouldn’t he want my beautiful sister?"
Ara was curious about one thing though, "What do you think on the matter, father? If I were to marry the Prince."
It wasn’t a marriage to just anybody, but to the crown Prince. Her father’s opinion were very important on the matter. If he objected, no matter what she would say, she couldn’t marry Hamon if he objected. But then she was curious if her father would allow the wedding even after knowing the crown Prince was cursed with misfortunes that would fall on his first wife.
Richard answered with no hesitation,"If the wedding is what the Prince wants, then I have nothing to say about it. The wedding will proceed."
At his words, Ara’s heart fell to an endless depth. Richard expressed no interest about her happiness or even asked if the crown Prince was a kind person. She knew her father would still agree even if Hamon had a bad personality. It wasn’t about whether she wanted the man or not. It was about her father being faithful to his duties as a general.
"Now that the conversation is over. I am taking my sister away from here." Anne said as she was about to pull Ara out of the room without their father permitting them to leave. Anne’s action was the height of presumption.
Richard spoke disapprovingly, "Anne, you are behaving disrespectfully to your father? Behave like that again next time, and you’ll be in trouble. I think I’ve spoiled you too much."
"Humph!" Anne gave her father a huff, and dragged Ara by her hand out of the study room, and so they walked down the corridor.
However, Ara was completely overwhelmed with emotions. She felt a huge blow beyond imagination. It was not even compared to when Claire had spread the false rumors. It was like a blade had deeply embedded into her heart. Until now, her only purpose was to protect her family...But Why does it felt like her hard work was rejected?
Anne glanced at her sister,"What’s wrong? Are you alright?"
"Hmm." But contrary, Ara was trembling slightly.
"Are you crying?"
Ara shook her head, and immediately hugged her sister. She desperately needed to feel Anne’s warmth.
"No, Am not crying." She’d faced ten million hardships before and she hadn’t cried...so Why should she cry now? She would never let her tears fall in this lifetime!
