Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 67: She’s my woman
Chapter 67: She’s my woman
Back at the event hall. Claire was already turning the people against Ara again.
"Let’s assume what she says about me is true. But does it change the fact that she’s a whore? Even sire Edward agreed to have bedded her countless times. Will you still side with an immoral person like her?!" Claire uttered.
Catherine chimed in, " Yes. What she’s accusing Claire of is a complete different matter from hers! She’s a whore, the fact doesn’t change."
The women at the hall started to murmur, while some were just excited about the fight between the noble daughters. Some spoke up to support Claire,
"Lady Tudor is right. What lady Ara said, doesn’t make the rumors about her false. Sire Edward wouldn’t lie." Said a woman amongst the crowd.
"Lady Ara threw herself at men, That’s a more bigger crime in this kingdom. Such a woman doesn’t even belong here, she’s a disgrace to our land!"
Ara’s green eyes hardened at the unexpected turn of events.
_Claire keeps coming at me in a way I didn’t expect_
Ara had over looked a crucial point. She had tried to stop the rumors about her by spreading another rumor about Claire, but everyone acted more indifferent towards it than she had planned.
Apparently, the accusation of being a whore was a much more bigger thing in Findara. The punishment to that was...banishment. if people believed the rumors, she’d definitely be sent out of the kingdom.
’What other way can I use to get out of this? If this rumor doesn’t die down...’
It would inevitably caused probles for her wedding with Hamon. A cold sweat suddenly ran down her spine. What she had revealed about Claire should have been enough to bring the rumors and Claire down, then restore her own image.
All the people in the hall started to throw insults at Ara. She desperately turned her head towards Elizabeth, but the woman shook her head to tell her; there was nothing she could do about it anymore. Elizabeth had tried, but she could not completely make the rumors about Ara disappear, because Claire had a lot of fake witnesses and evidence. The maid and the man called Edward, who didn’t attend the event even though he was invited.
Claire’s lips pulled up into an evil smile when she saw Ara’s defeated expression. Now she’d see how the bitch would get out of this! Nobody messes with Claire Tudor!
Everyone started to throw hateful words at Ara. Someone even said; they’d tell general Richard about the sinful act his eldest daughter had been committing around the kingdom.
The next second, the entire hall went silent all of a sudden. People’s eyes were fixated towards the entrance. Ara wondered what made them suddenly fall quiet.
_I wonder who came in?_
Feeling the change in the atmosphere, Ara turned towards the entrance where everyone was staring at.
"Hail His royal Highness!" The crowd greeted in unison as they bowed regardless of their wealth.
For a moment, Ara thought she was dreaming as everyone around her seemed to fade away, while Hamon was the only person she saw. She watched as he steadily strode towards her. His red irises burned with that mysterious heat she always saw in them, but looked blank as he stopped in front of her.
He looked around the place, "What are you doing here?" He asked.
Ara suddenly remembered that he wanted to meet her today, but she had refused him, and thought that was why he asked. She quickly parted her lips to explain,
"Your Highness, I am_ "
Hamon interrupted her with a small frown, "Haven’t I told you the last time we met that you should tell them the truth about us?" He took her hand in his and played with her slender fingers, then continued, "You should have told them that you’re my woman...are you shy to say it out to the people?" He asked as he lowered his head to meet her face.
Everyone’s expression turned to astonishment at his gesture. But it was Ara who was most stunned at his words and actions. She blinked like a fish as she stared at his breathtaking face close to hers.
_What is he doing?_
Ara wasn’t expecting him to come and carelessly reveal their relationship. What if he was dragged into this? People might call him names. It was seen as a taboo for unmarried or unengaged couples to spend time together.
As Ara was lost in thought. Hamon’s words broke her out of it, "Is it true that someone is talking about us? I heard some people saying you went out at night? You should have come out clean to them. If you’re too shy to say it...Then Let me say it..."
Ara was about to ask what he was doing, but swallowed down her words when she saw he was siding with her while everyone else was against her, it brought an indescribable warmth to her chest.
Hamon stood firmly beside Ara, his tall figure securing her by his side protectively against the people’s prejudice, he exuded an extremely dark and dangerous aura that brought a shudder to everyone’s spine, none of them dared to glance up to meet his face not to mention throwing another degrading word at Ara.
"Everybody, listen and listen good..!" Hamon gazed around the hall to see if they were all paying attention to what he was about to say, his gaze stopped on Claire, then said,
"Arabella Boxton is my woman! We’ve been together for a long time now."
Hamon’s voice rang clearly for all to hear, especially Claire who he was glaring at.
At Hamon’s sudden announcement, the people all gasped in surprise, but Hamon didn’t stop there and continued,
"Yes, We do meet at night. I’m not supposed to announce our relationship yet, until we picked a date, but I didn’t expect to hear such baseless rumors spread about my woman."
Hamon looked around the people with a reproachful glare.
Claire clenched tightly to her dress as Hamon’s glare lasted on her, his words had dealt such a heavy shock on her that she immediately fell into denial, no matter what she didn’t want to believe that Ara would have caught Hamon’s eyes and he’d even addressed her as his woman, how was that possible when she was here?
Seeing that his eyes lingered on her for a few seconds, she was immediately filled with joy, mistaking the warning in his glares for, ’ He noticed my beauty! I need to let him know that the woman he’s siding with is a whore. I can’t let this opportunity go!’
Claire quickly stepped forward and said, "Your Highness, if she’s your woman...Then she has been cheating on you. There was a man who said he has bedded her countless times. And_"
Hamon’s eyes darkened at Claire’s words, "Where did you hear such horseshit?" He asked with a low voice, masking his anger towards the lady.
However, Claire ignored his dangerous glare and continued with an innocent expression. She’d win him over with her innocent face,
"It was Sire Edward who said it himself. But I tried_"
Hamon didn’t wait to hear her words as he turned towards the door, then called out, "Oliver!"
"Yes. Your Highness?"
"Bring the gift here!"
Oliver who was standing at the door, walked in with a box in hand. The box was wrapped in a black gift wrapper.
Everyone stared at the guard holding the box, they were all wondering what was inside.
Oliver placed the box on a table, then started to unwrap the box. He then opened it.
"Since I was to be attending a gathering, it would be impolite to come in empty handed," he then turned to Oliver saying, "Present the gift." His tone sounding as carefree as it always was.
Oliver nodded, then pushed the box from the table. As the things inside rolled forward on the floor.
Suddenly the hall was filled with high pitched screams of women. While the men turned pale at the extremely gory sight in front of them.
On the floor was a human head with the eyes missing from it sockets, a few limbs rolled on the floor, along with the bloodied fingers that seemed to have crawled out of a horrible nightmare.
Hamon’s expression was the same as he pointed to the head on the floor, "Was this the man you’re talking about?"
Claire’s face turned pale at the sight, she started to tremble in fear. She couldn’t be seeing wrong! It...It was the head of...Sire Edward. The same man she had paid to lie!
"I...I...don’t..." Claire was suddenly unable to speak.
Hamon spoke again in a nonchalant tone, "What’s wrong? A cat caught your tongue?"
"..."
"I asked is this the same man you said bedded my woman, or have you turned deaf all of a sudden?"
"I...Yes...It was him..." She answered with a trembling voice.
The hall, which was once filled with merriment was now engulfed in silence. The music had long stopped, as everyone held their breaths in fear that the crown Prince would noticed them and question them about the rumors.
It was the first time the elites were seeing something like this, some trembled in fear. Hamon’s so called gift, had left everyone shaking and speechless.
No one was able to say a word. His presence alone was overwhelming. Hamon was angered by the people, he looked around the hall, then spoke,
"If anyone wants to continue to spread the rumors...go ahead! You Will end up like this man over here!" He pointed at the head, "If I hear a word of this again...I’ll deal with that person myself."
No one spoke up, as they were fearing to lose their heads. They hadn’t known much about the crown Prince, but they could tell he wasn’t joking. The women who spoke bad about Ara were crushed to silence.
Ara who had been watching everything quietly, noticed how a young lady at the side with a horrified expression as she stared at Hamon as if he was a devil that crawled out of hell, the lady had peed her skirt out of fright. Ara touched Hamon to gain his attention, "Your Highness...they have learned the truth about our relationship. That’s enough."
Only then did Hamon turn away from the people and looked at her with a calm expression, but Ara knew he was furious underneath the surface.
He then said, "You think it’s enough? I haven’t even punished who started the rumors yet. I want to tear them into pieces, only then will I feel at ease."
