Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 66: Teach them a lesson
Chapter 66: Teach them a lesson
Ara glanced towards the maid, "You came to my mansion looking for a job, I offered you, then you went on to steal my dresses and now, here you are spreading lies about me. Who paid you to do such things?" Ara questioned in an authoritative tone. She wanted to make it clear to the crowd that there was a possibility the maids claims was due to the instigations of someone’s schemes even if the crowd might not fully believe it at this point.
"Nobody paid me! And I didn’t take any dresses! I left because your household was immoral. I’m telling the truth!"
"You must be delusional, young lady...and you should watch what you say, you don’t know when it will stab you." Because I’d definitely cut you tongue if you say anything about my household again. Ara added in her mind.
"You...!" The maid was sputtering in resentment.
"I can’t believe you all are believing the words of an ordinary maid!" Came a voice from behind Ara. Ara turned and saw Mary walking towards her. Mary continued to say, "Have you all forgotten that people of the lower class can be easily paid to lie?" It wasn’t that she looked down upon people from the lower class, but even though some of them still retained their integrity, a large number of them were more than willing to sell it off for a penny or two.
Claire clenched her fist tightly when Mary stood beside Ara. Not this stupid dark woman again! "Mary...?"
Mary was still intimidated by Claire and could not even meet her eyes. However, she pushed down her fear and responded without hesitating, "Oh, it’s been awhile, Lady Tudor."
Mary was not used to being the center of attention, but she was confident as Ara was beside her. Although Ara had asked Mary to come, she really hadn’t expected her to show up to side with her. Ara whispered, "Lady Cabrera, Thanks..."
At Ara’s small voice, Mary looked at her with a faint smile on her face, then whispered back, "it’s nothing. We have to reveal her true colors to those who aren’t aware of how she tried to give you a spite wine and ruin your reputation."
Claire’s words suddenly cut through the warm moment between them, "What are you doing here, Lady Cabrera?"
Mary turned to Claire,"Isn’t it obvious? I’m here to prove lady Ara’s innocence to everyone... Lady Tudor, I know you’re jealous of her, but you’ve really gone too far with all this."
Claire snorted, "Ha, really?" The dark lady used to be so timid and always followed her orders, but suddenly she was biting back the hand that used to feed her? After she’d generously allowed Mary mingle with someone such as herself. So this was how the stupid dark lady would pay her back after everything she’d done for her?!
"Something must’ve happened to your head, Lady Cabrera. Else how dare you say such thing about me! Yo_"
"Really now, Lady Claire? Have you forgotten how you tried to feed lady Ara spite wine as a peace offer at the banquet just to humiliate her? Wasn’t that out of jealousy?!" Said Mary.
Another set of murmurs grew around the hall. As the incident about the spite wine happened in the north, and not all the elites in the south knew about it.
Claire glared at Mary as her voice heightened in humiliation, "That’s not true! You’re li_"
Seeing Claire was driven into a corner, her friends quickly interrupted the conversation, "Why are you lying Mary? What proof do you have that Claire attempted to feed The lady a spite wine as a peace offer?" Asked Catherine.
"I_" Mary tried to explain, But Eleanora glared at her,
"You don’t have any evidence to what you said, so keep your mouth out of the matter." Eleanora lifted her nose in the air proudly. Nobody here knew about the wine incident at the banquet, and since Mary doesn’t have proof nobody would believe her.
Ara glanced at Elizabeth who had been observing the scene quietly. Elizabeth understood Ara’s signal, then stepped forward and spoke for everyone to hear,
"I was there when the wine incident happened, it is true. Lady Tudor, really did spite the wine then offered it as a peace offer to lady Boxton..."
"Lady Bennett what are you saying?...you know me so well, then why on earth are you siding with her?!" Claire bellowed angrily at the woman.
But Elizabeth didn’t even glance at Claire. Not when her reputation was on the line, she doesn’t care what happened to Claire. She continued as if she was surprised,
"Oh, look at that, so it’s true that Lady Claire is such a disrespectful young lady, she is spoilt and used to things happening the way she likes...I Even heard from one of the Tudor relatives that she’s very often sick in the head and delusional..."
The ladies who were Elizabeth friends, spoke up to support her words, "Yes. Whatever lady Bennett said is right. I haven’t known lady Tudor much, but I can tell she’s not normal and doesn’t have any manners for the elders."
"I know. She’s such an arrogant person, talking to an older woman this way ."
Claire’s face darkened in anger when people started calling her... sick?! She’d teach these old hags a lesson! They think she’s sick? She’d show them!
"You better watch how you talk to me lady!" Claire pointed angrily at one of the women who called her sick.
But the people just shook their heads in disbelief, as it was disrespectful to point at an older person, it further provided how unmannered Claire was.
In high society such attitude and arrogance was immensely frowned upon, a lady would end up being married off and would have to live in her husband’s household, if she’d been spoiled by her parents and she ended up with an arrogant and envious personality she might end up disgracing her husband’s family.
For a maiden like that, no woman would want to have married to her son as more than anything the elites valued their image and reputation.
Such an accusation of having a foul, spoilt, and envious character did not pale in the slightest to being sullied scandal wise.
Due the fact that Claire was being accused of having been jealous of Ara and had actually made one attempt to spoil her reputation in the past, it made everyone began doubting the credibility of her accusations against Ara, after all it might just have been that she was driven by her jealousy and trying to ruin Ara’s reputation again.
"I feel pity for lady Ara. I can’t believe we’ve been listening to a sick person all the while!"
"The Tudor household needs to do something about their sick daughter before she goes causing more trouble!"
And just like that, the murmurs shifted back to Claire.
"I also heard some words this morning. That lady Tudor had sent a maid to steal from the Boxton mansion. No normal person would do that."
"Yes. I heard that too, but I didn’t think it was true, until now."
As Ara noticed the crowd were now going against Claire, she knew people would believe Elizabeth’s words. And with Mary’s support, everything was going as planned. Mary and Ara smiled as they looked at each.
However, Ara wasn’t done with the spoiled brat yet. Claire was the kind of person who cares only about herself.
"When lady Tudor lost to me at the beauty contest...She threatened to ruin my face and destroy me." Ara said lightly, her voice low and meek to invoke the people’s sympathy and also raisr their dislike towards Claire.
"That’s a lie! I never...!" Claire denied it, as her face darkened, she’d threatened her, but that wasn’t what she said!
Ara continued with a pitiful expression,"Few days after her threat, I was attacked by some men, who tried to scar my face, but fortunately I was rescued by my brother’s men..."
Everyone’s horrified gazes turned towards Claire who was spitting flames out of anger, but Ara wasn’t done.
"When my brother’s men questioned them after being beaten, they confessed that it was lady Tudor who sent them. If you don’t believe me, I’ll bring my brother’s men as witnesses."
Claire’s eyes widened, "That’s a lie! I never did any of such! She’s lying to you all!" She yelled.
The people gasped in astonishment, as they started to murmur.
Ara smirked, wasn’t she the one who started it? She was just merely paying her back.
Claire noticed the smirk, then moved closer to Ara and questioned through clenched teeth, "What the hell are you doing, bitch?"
Ara retorted in a low voice, "I’m just returning the favor for spoiling my name, Lady Tudor."
Returning the favor? Oh she was also trying to spoil her image! Claire’s lips pulled up in an evil smile, "I see...so we’re doing this, right?"
Ara’s brows drew together.
Claire turned to the crowd, "Are you all going to believe the words of a whore? Have you forgotten who she is?! She’ll take your husband’s away under your noses without you realizing! She’s lying to get out of this!"

The castle stood tall in all it’s glory, majestic and opulent, tall towers lined the skies in rows and the black flags with a golden star that symbolized the kingdom of findara could be seen fluttering with the wind.
Inside a luxurious looking study room in the castle. A man was seen seated in front of a desk, flipping through some papers, his red eyes looked darker in the dimmed lit room, his glistening sliver hair was tied behind his head as a few strands fell to the side, brows knitted together as if he was in a deep thought. Suddenly he tossed the parchment he was reading aside angrily.
Merek who noticed it couldn’t help but ask, "Is everything ok, Your Highness?"
"Hmm." He replied with a blank expression. Then continued, "Where did you keep the man?"
"We kept him in the dark room, your highness."
"Mm..." Hamon paused, then asked nonchalantly."Do you know which event she went to attend?"
"Yes, your highness."
Hamon stood up and grabbed his coat, "I guess we have an event to attend too, Merek. But we have to take a gift to the guests, don’t you think?" He stated with a smirk.
Merek understood what he meant by "Take a gift to the guests" he bowed, "Yes, your highness."
"Let’s go and prepare the gift then!" Hamon uttered excitedly.
He wouldn’t just sit here while his future wife was being accused of something so vile right before his eyes. He’d teach all of them a lesson! Starting with the man who claimed to have bedded his innocent fiance.
Heck he’d cut the man torturously limb by limb to make sure nobody messed with what was his again!
Hamon strode out of the study room, as merek also followed behind him.
