Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 58: The enemy appears
Chapter 58: The enemy appears
Hamon and Ara continued to move around the ballroom, deliberately making sure they were seen together by everyone so that the rumors would spread it’s wings even further, that they fell in love at first sight at the grand ball.
"I think we’ve been seen by everyone for now, Let’s_" Ara began, but then suddenly froze in place, her words stuck in her throat, when she caught sight of a familiar figure in the ballroom.
The middle-aged man stood tall with his broad shoulders, there was an air of strength around him, and his hair which was already turning white in her previous life, was now dark as ebony. The middle-aged man was talking to another man, he let out a deep laugh, goosebumps rose through her flesh at the sound.
Ara could imagined his face even without having to face him...
His image from her previous life suddenly flashed to her head.
Cornell!
The man she had been hunting down for years to avenge her family’s death in her previous life was now standing in front of her!
Her whole body suddenly started to tremble, not with fear, but with fury that had long lain dormant. Ara’s heart began to ram itself fiercely against her ribs as Cornell turned his head towards their direction, her purpose in life was revenge! To kill him and hang his body for all to see, Just like he did to her father. He was standing right in front of her.
’Cornell! I’ll finish you up, and ruin you!’
Ara saw red as if her blood would burst from her veins. There was nothing she wanted more than to kill him right on the spot, If Cornell died now, her dear family would never face such future, there won’t be any danger for her to protect them from.
Ara’s eyes swept around the ballroom seeking for a weapon she could use to cut down the beast of a man who had ruined her life in her previous lifetime, she was consumed by only one thought.
_End his life right now! She couldn’t let the opportunity slip by, it would be better to kill him now to make the future better!
Ara’s complexion turned paler than normal as she gradually lost her sense of reasoning, and started to look around to find a weapon.
"Arabella?" She heard a voice calling her out and a hand firmly on her shoulders, but couldn’t care less she needed to kill this monster. "Arabella!" "Ara!" The sound of Hamon’s voice calling her name yanked her to her senses, she blinked dazedly to the direction.
Hamon held Ara’s shoulders staring down at her with grave concern on his face, "What’s wrong?"
"I...I...Nothing." Ara shook her head like a lost child.
"Are you alright?" He asked again in concern when he saw the dazed look and sweat on her face. Ara quickly wiped away the cold sweat off her forehead with the back of her hand.
"Am fine." Ara said as she stepped away from him, and forced her racing heart to settle down. For a moment she had been tempted to kill Cornell, but considering it now, it was a great risk If anything went wrong. She would become a high-profile criminal for attempting to assassinate a royal family, she couldn’t risk her family’s life by being caught as a criminal.
Rest assured, Cornell would be killed by her some day, but not at this moment. Ara clenched her fist tightly, but suddenly she felt something warm on her cheeks, she looked up and found Hamon cupping her face with a gentle hand, as if scared to hurt her if he added pressure.
"...Hamon..." She called in a small voice.
"You don’t look well..." He trailed off as he stroked her cheeks tenderly, his face was quite near as he lowered his head to look directly into her confused and lost eyes, "We’ve convinced people well enough, come with me." Hamon held her wrist and began to walk away from the crowd in the ballroom.
Cornell who had been conversing with a man, turned his head towards Hamon as he walked past him with a lady. Cornell’s grey eyes were as sharp as a blade and as calm as the night ocean, the other man who had been speaking to him continued,
"Your nephew is quite a lucky dog, to return from the battlefield to have a lady as beautiful as that young woman." There was a sneering tone to his voice.
Cornell stared at Hamon’s back with the young lady, then asked, "Do you know which family the young lady is from?"
"Well, My Lord. I’ve heard quite a few whispers around the hall, I believe she’s the eldest daughter of general Richard ... From the Boxton’s household."
Cornell’s eyes flashed in surprise at the word "Boxton" he knew that name from Ulric’s report, "Arabella Boxton, right?" He questioned with his eyes still staring at Ara’s retreating figure with his nephew.
"Yes, My Lord."
_So that’s the lady who has the magic stone of Helga he had been looking for. How interesting she’s with his nephew, it would make things easier for him then. With that thought, Cornell smirked coldly.

"What are you looking at son?" At queen Merona’s critical tone, Prince Cassius turned his gaze back to his mother.
Cassius De Biville, the second Prince of Findara and the biological son of queen Merona.
"Nothing...there’s nothing entertaining at this boring ball, mother." He remarked with a charming smile.
Prince Cassius was a handsome young man with hair as black as the night, his luxuriously tailored tailcoat rested perfectly on his solid figure, he sat lazily beside his mother. Many women were casting interested glances at him, as the biological son of the queen, he had full support from Dumbarton kingdom, and would more likely be the next king, as his mother was a Princess from Dumbarton before she married the king, he and his sister Eadlin were an object of envy in the eyes of all the elites in Findara.
"Do not worry about useless things son, take this ball as an opportunity to mingle around the elites in the kingdom, so people will see that you’re more fit for the throne and not that bastard boy." Merona stated with a slight hint of displeasure in her voice.
"Yes, mother." Despite his answer. However, he could not take his eyes off the woman who disappeared along with his step brother, Cassius stared at the woman’s enchanting red hair as an amused smile formed on his handsome face,
’What a beauty!’

Hamon led Ara away from the crowded ballroom softly holding her palm in his, she followed him wordlessly as he took her to a beautiful garden outside the ballroom with a breathtaking fountain in the middle of the place. The moment Ara stepped out of the ballroom, she took in the fresh night air to calm her nerves, and soon she felt her senses slowly returned to normal.
Ara had almost acted rashly when she saw the man who had ruined their lives in her previous life, as she saw him in front of her alive, all the anger from her past life slammed into her insanely. Even now, she could not forget the scene of her family’s bodies hanging down on the trees for all to see, the heart shattering pain she’d felt at that sight, In that moment her whole being was saturated with blind rage.
Hamon could still feel Ara’s hand tremble slightly, as he was still holding on to her hand, "Are you alright?"
"I...I’m fine."
"You don’t look fine to me." He remarked with his brows knitted together.
"It’s nothing..." She murmured.
Hamon didn’t question her any further, and just stood silently by her side out in the garden to keep her company while she calm her mind. He’d ask her when she’s back to herself.
Few minutes later, Ara spoke to Hamon at last, "Thank you for bringing me out here..." If Hamon hadn’t called her back to her senses, she would have easily attacked Cornell back there.
"What made you that way all of a sudden in the ballroom?" He asked.
But Ara didn’t answer immediately, she stared at the beautiful view before her, the garden was dark, but dimly lit by the full moonlight, the lovely fragrance from the flowers wafting into her nose further soothing her. She glanced silently at Hamon, his crimson eyes shone like a wild beast even in the shadowy place.
He was her best chance at protecting her family from Cornell, she had no idea what kind of future her decision would bring, but the deed had already been done, she’d make sure to make him the king of Findara no matter what. However, that doesn’t mean she trusted him completely for her to tell him about her absurd story of going back in time.
Hamon might even see her as an insane person, nobody would believe such story, she’d better keep it to herself and never let it out. She vowed silently to herself for the thousandth time, she’d definitely change the future.
