Chapter 52: Grand ball (part 2)

Anne’s smile widened as she took her sister’s hand to pull her out of the dressing room, "Now that we already have a dress...there’s one more thing left!" Anne exclaimed.

"What’s that?"

"Skin treatment!" Anne announced happily.

"Skin treatment?"

"Yes, of course! I want us to look our best tonight at the grand ball!"

"I don’t need it___"

Before Ara could finish her words, Anne hurried to drag her out of the room, "Let’s go! Let’s go!"

"Alright, am coming!" Ara exclaimed as her sister pulled her out of the room.

The night every elite in Findara kingdom had been excited about had finally arrived. The evening of the royal grand ball.

In the magnificent castle of Findara, lines of carriages were seen streaming through the gates in order. Each of the carriage emblazoned with its household seals as they parked at a side.

Elites were seen stepping out of their carriages as they made their way to the palace ballroom entrance. The humongous ballroom was decorated in a glittering white and golden theme, and the whole hall was illuminated by golden chandeliers that housed almost a thousand candles, as the musical instruments were playing softly in the background.

"Lady Evangeline, from the house Golding!" Announced the royal herald at the entrance of the ballroom. As a beautiful lady wearing a yellow dress stepped inside with her head held high, she strode gracefully inside the ballroom.

"Humph! Evangeline looks shabby in that yellow dress!" Exclaimed Claire who was already present at the ballroom with her two friends, as they didn’t want to miss the chance of meeting Alexander Felstead first.

Evangeline Golding was another one of Claire’s rivals when it comes to beauty in the kingdom. According to the masses, she was said to be even more prettier than Claire, but Claire herself wouldn’t believe that.

"Don’t worry about Evangeline’s dress, it’s so ugly. It wouldn’t even stand to yours tonight." Eleanora uttered as she sipped her wine.

Although, Evangeline’s dress wasn’t as ugly as Eleanora said, but it couldn’t be compared to Claire’s, as Claire had wore an expensive light blue dress, with a diamond necklace around her neck, her ebony black hair was tied in a messy bun.

"Yes. Evangeline thinks she’s the most beautiful, not even close to you Claire!" Exclaimed Catherine with a frown.

"I know. Nobody can compare their attire to mine tonight." Remarked Claire with an air of loftiness as she raised her chin arrogantly.

Not even the Boxton’s! Because she was confident that the Boxton sisters wouldn’t be able to show up tonight, since they don’t have a dress to wear!

As Claire and her friends were busy downgrading the attire of all the guests at the ballroom. Just then they heard the royal herald’s voice again as he announced,

"The Lord Alexander from the house Felstead!"

Claire and her friends were quick to look towards the entrance in anticipation.

Alexander finally appeared in their view, he stood tall with a broad frame, he had a pair of mesmerizing light blue eyes, that gazed calmly ahead holding an incredibly attractive light in them. He was wearing a black suit that held perfectly against his rigid body, as his raven black hair was combed smoothly to the back. He strode gracefully to greet some of the nobles at the hall.

"Oh my goodness! He looks even more handsome than I’d thought!" Exclaimed Eleanora.

"I never knew he was this good looking, those eyes, he’s really so beautiful!" Catherine couldn’t hold back a squeal as they both almost visibly drooled at the attractive looks of Alexander.

Claire glared at her friends hearing the infatuation in their words, "Keep your eyes off him, don’t even think about it. He’s mine, I’ll have my first dance with him tonight."

It turned out the renowned Alexander Felstead was such a breathtakingly handsome man, and with the fact that he was from the most powerful family of generals, with such perfect looks and a reputable family such a person would only be fit for someone like her, all the other girls could just go ahead and keep dreaming of him, but they should be careful because she won’t even spare those dreams.

She directed her gaze somewhere across the room and scoffed derisively, she caught sight of Evangeline who also had her eyes on Alexander, did she really think she would stand a chance with him? That was a dream she would be more than happy to kill, she despised the girl anyway.

The only other person who could have had a tiny chance to compete with her didn’t even get to attend the grand ball, she had dealt perfectly with the Boxton sisters, there was no way anyone was going to be able to steal her spotlight now. She felt even more pleased with herself.

Eleanora swallowed hard after receiving a deadly glare from Claire earlier and quickly kept her mouth shut, while Catherine quickly chimed in trying to curry favor, as if she hadn’t been the one drooling over the man just now,

"Yes, he’d only look good with you! He wouldn’t be able to resist your beauty, Claire! Besides, other people can just fantasize about him, but he won’t even spare them a single glance with someone like you around."

Claire raised her chin clearly pleased at Catherine’s words, it looked like some people already knew their place, there were some dreams she wouldn’t have to crush with her own hands after all, she smoothed out her gown confidently as she fixed her sight on him. She would go close to him that way he would notice her presence, he was currently a bit far away from where she was it would be a bit hard for him to catch a glimpse of her beauty,

"How do I loo__" She prepared to ask the other girls but her words were suddenly cut short with another booming announcement.

"The Lady Arabella, and Lady Annette from the Boxton house!"
