Chapter 53: Grand ball (part 3)

The Boxton carriage drove through the castle’s gate then stopped at the palace entrance, a servant hurried to open the carriage door for the them.

There was a long red carpet from the carriage to the entrance. With many elites walking into the palace door.

A lady’s foot gently dipped out onto the carpet from the carriage, she slowly emerged completely out of the carriage, as the people at the entrance noticed her, their voices died down to utter silence that only the night crickets could be heard, then quiet murmurs could be heard among the onlookers at the sight of the beautiful lady. While some gasped in astonishment.

Hair like red fire, skin as white as snow with glistening emerald eyes as she scanned around. Her deep blue ball gown flowed down as she stood elegantly straight. What stood out the most was the shimmering black diamond around her neck, which glowed with it’s beautiful dark luster.

As some people sighted the necklace on Ara’s neck, the mumbles grew louder,

"Oh my god! Isn’t that the latest, most expensive diamond jewelry set from Dumbarton?!"

"Look at her dress! Is she royalty?"

"She must be, and who’s that with her?!"

The people’s jaw dropped even more as another beautiful lady emerged from the carriage. She was wearing a dep red dress, with her Brown hair let down her shoulders in slight curls, her lively sky colored eyes shone with undisguised excitement.

The sisters appearance to the palace, caused quit an uproar outside the ballroom, as people kept wondering who they were.

"I wonder what household they’re from!"

The mumbles filled the air as people watched them make they’re way to the ballroom entrance.

Ara handed the royal herald their family seal with both their names on it, but the man didn’t even attempt to take it as he was still dazed by the ladies beauty. Ara cleared her throat to get his attention, "Sire?"

The royal herald quickly came back to his sense, then bowed deeply before he took the seal from them to announce their presence,

"The Lady Arabella, and Lady Annette from the Boxton house!"

The magnificent ballroom doors slowly swung open to reveal the golden ballroom.

Ara and Anne walked inside, capturing the eyes of all the guests at the ball. Causing some to whisper amongst themselves, both men and women. Those who didn’t notice them at first, were taken aback when they passed by them, then came some more murmurs from the crowd.

"Is that the Boxton daughters?"

"By God they’re so beautiful!"

"The red haired lady would look good with my eldest son!" Exclaimed a middle-aged woman in the crowd.

Just like at the entrance, their appearance drew in the curiosity of the onlookers. Moreover, Ara’s dress stood out from all, and one could not help but admire the quality of the design from her dress to the jewelry gracing her body, everything was to highlight her beauty.

Even though the other women had splendidly attired themselves in the finest clothing for the grand ball, it still couldn’t be compared to what the sisters wore.

Their appearance had sent the ballroom fluttering with chatter, even the music died down for some minutes.

The sudden influx of attention pressed in from all sides embarrassing Ara as she strode to a corner. She wondered if there was something on her face that made people stare at her like that, she had never received so much attention in her entire life.

Ara settled at a side with her sister, as the music started to play again. Ignoring the myriad of eyes staring at her, she picked up a glass of wine from the passing servants tray, she took a few sips then noticed her sister’s smiling face,

"How do you feel? Is the ball as you expected?"

Anne had been looking forward to the royal grand ball, and to meeting the crown Prince all this time.

"Well...I can’t say yet, since we just got here and the royal family haven’t appeared yet...but I like how everyone’s eyes are on you!" Anne beamed in enthusiasm.

Ara smiled at her sister’s words. Actually, the crowd weren’t only looking at Ara but also Anne, as they both looked alike a little, but Anne’s beauty was somewhat soft and radiant, one that could conjure anyone’s happy vibes, she could be compared to a lovely blooming rose in the morning sun, bright and lively, while Ara’s could be said to be enthralling, capable of alluring the faintest soul, like a deadly but dangerously beautiful poison ivy, she had a cold and dangerous allure around her, however that only served to draw one further in, it was just like when a person was captivated by the beauty of a blazing flame, though knowing it’s dangerous and will burn one can’t help but want to throw caution to the wind and get closer.

Anne always had on a welcoming expression, while Ara always had a blank face.

Ara looked tenderly at her sister, unaware of the person glaring daggers at them.

Claire clenched tightly to her gown in anger, ’ How did that bitch get those dresses!’

"I thought you said the Boxton sisters wouldn’t show up?" Uttered Eleanora with her brows slightly knitted together.

"Shut up!" Claire bellowed angrily.

Claire’s expression turned even more darker as she saw Alexander approaching the sisters. How could he go to them when she was right here! Wasn’t she more beautiful than that bitch! Arabella was nothing but a whore! Claire’s expression turned ugly as she noticed the smile on Alexander’s face. What were they talking about?

Ara turned to the man approaching them, "Good evening, My lady." He greeted with a slight bow of his head. Ara didn’t know who the man was, but out of courtesy she greeted, "Good evening."

The man seemed to have noticed her expression, then introduced himself, "I’m Alexander Felstead...You’re Arabella Boxton, right?" He asked with a polite smile on his face.

What? Did he just say Alexander Felstead?! She hadn’t expected to meet him at the ball, but he even came to her?

"Yes, I am... it’s nice to meet you, Lord Alexander."

"You can call me Alex."

Just as they were talking, the music changed as people started to dance on the dance floor. What was taking the royal family this long? People had started to dance, but Hamon hadn’t showed up for their plans. Ara then heard Alex,

"May I have this dance, my lady?"

Ara glanced at him. It wouldn’t be polite if she turned down his offer to dance, but she couldn’t have her first dance with him either, she had already promised to dance with Hamon. Gaining Alex’s help was extremely important, but what would be the point if she gained his trust then lost the crown Prince by dancing with Alex? She already had a man.

Alex spoke again when he noticed her hesitance, "The first dance will end soon, just think of it as me being your dance partner for the evening." He offered nicely with a small quirk to his lips.

Many times, ballroom first dance partners often turned to lovers later, and the more times a lady was asked to dance, the more people paid attention to her. Ara didn’t want such attention.

She recalled in her previous life at the grand ball, she had been asked to dance by three men. But that wasn’t the case now that Hamon was in the picture.

Anne who had been busy stuffing her mouth with food, noticed her sister’s hesitation then pushed her forward,

"Go on sister! He’s waiting for you, I’ll be right here since nobody asked me to dance yet." Anne whispered.

"But__ " Ara was in difficulty, How was she supposed to salvage the situation.

But her words were cut short as the royal herald suddenly proclaimed in a booming voice,

"The royal family has arrived!"

And soon the royal guard appeared at the entrance. It signaled the king’s presence. Their appearance halted the activity going on in the ballroom, as the king strode forward bearing no signs of illness at all.

The king strode forward with a smiling expression, followed by the queen who had a blank yet stern expression. Then came princess Eadlin followed by Prince Cassius.

Where’s Hamon? Ara thought.

The assemblage of nobles echoed in chorus, "All hail the king and queen!"

King Frederick strode to the platform where his royal chair was kept, but before he sat down, he addressed his subjects gathered in the ballroom,

"I can see so many people are present tonight! To celebrate the annual grand ball, and tonight I would like to officially introduce the crown Prince of our great kingdom!"

However, despite king Fredrick’s pleasant way of speaking, the mood in the ballroom seemed to turned gloomy at the thought of the crown Prince appearance, as the crowds began to mumble loudly,

"I heard he’s an ugly and unsightly!"

"He’s said to be fat and hairy, they say he looks like a disgusting creature!"

"Oh my god, the monster will show up tonight!" Exclaimed Catherine.

Claire who was already in a bad mood, had a disgusted expression on her face as she said, "I don’t even want to look at him if he appears, I don’t want to ruin my already bad mood even more by some stupid ugly Prince!!"

Ara heard all the downgrading murmurs around the hall, a small smirk appeared on her gorgeous lips. That guy? They thought he was ugly? really shows how little people know, If only they knew how handsome Hamon was.

"Sister! The crown Prince will show up, I can’t wait to see him!" Anne exclaimed excitedly.

Just then the royal herald proclaimed again in a more booming voice, "The crown Prince of Findara has arrived!"

As the ballroom door opened slowly, the crowds all looked towards it in disappointment. Waiting to see the ugly crown Prince.
