Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 46: Spoils of war
Chapter 46: Spoils of war
Usually, the spoils of war they take possession of from the war, goes to the kingdom. There were sent to the king directly, but no one knew how the crown Prince handled what he possessed in the battlefield.
Ara never thought the crown Prince would be one to take it for himself. She looked at him with widened eyes.
"Hey, am not all innocent and clean." He remarked when he saw her expression.
’I never said you are!’
"Being born the crown Prince doesn’t make one have rights to the kings wealth...The kind of family the Prince’s mother comes from, is what determines one’s position in the palace." Hamon explained in a nonchalant tone, As he sipped his wine causally.
Ara remained silent as she listened to him. It was said that the crown Prince’s birth mother was a witch, and an ordinary maid in the castle, who warmed her way to the kings bed with her witchcraft.
So for Hamon to get any right to the wealth was impossible unless he did what he had done. Right now, Hamon was just a crown Prince by name, and won’t get to be the king without any supporters in the kingdom.
It was known to every person in Findara that the crown Prince has no power to claim for the throne, as nobody was on his side, and Ara needn’t have lived a second life time to know of it.
Hamon continued to say, "Being the crown Prince doesn’t make me loyal to my king or kingdom...since I have no support to lean on, and nobody to give me my rights...there’s no way I’ll let them take away my hard work from all the battles to the king...what do you think?"
Hamon spoke in a nonchalant manner that made Ara felt a pang of sympathy for him. Was that the reason he left the kingdom in her previous life? All the while Ara had only thought of using the crown Prince to save her family, and had never thought of how he lived in the castle. It made her wonder, What kind of man was Hamon?
Ara now fully understood where he got his wealth from. Since Hamon had no outside power or supporters, he made his own wealth through wars.
"I...I Don’t know what to say..."
Hamon could see the change in her expression, as if she was feeling sorry for him. He hated it when someone feels sympathetic for him. He hadn’t just told Ara everything to make her feel sympathy for him, he had only explained it to her because he could see the doubt on her face the entire time.
To change the topic from him, Hamon asked, "Merek told me someone stole your ball gowns, is it true?"
"Y-yes." Ara had planned to ask for his help anyway. So it was good he brought it up first.
"Well...The stuff we took possession of, Aren’t just money, but jewelry and women clothing. Sometimes, surreptitious ways is another way to increase ones wealth." He stated in a nonchalant tone.
So that was why Merek said Hamon knew more about women clothing. Now she understood why Merek said Hamon was the best to ask about the dresses.
Hamon could see the convinced look on her face, so he didn’t explain any further. His eyes fell on the untouched dishes on the table, he frowned. Why wasn’t she eating?
"You’ve barley even touched the food...you should eat." He said with his brows knitted together. But Ara shook her head,
"I can’t eat with all those men around." She gestured to his men guarding the building. Hamon smirked then beckoned to one of his men. The soldier came in an instant, he bowed,
"Your Highness."
Hamon gave his order in a lazy manner, "I want you all to scram from the entrance. Move the men out of sight, your presence is disturbing my future wife from eating."
The soldier turned to Ara then bowed deeply, "My apologies, my lady. I’ll move them right away."
Ara’s face flushed in embarrassment. That wasn’t what she meant by her words, it wasn’t like the guards were the reason, it was how he took the entire restaurant just for both of them, and how he was unnecessarily spending on her. Before Ara knew it, all the men were out of sight.
Ara glanced at Hamon, she wanted to say something, but didn’t even know what to say with the crooked smile he had on his face, "Shall we eat now, future wife?"
Ara glanced down at the table, there were series of appetizing dishes displayed on the table, she didn’t even know which to eat first.

Unknown to the couples or the soldiers in the restaurant. Behind the building, a man was seen hiding on a tree as he watched the couples eat. The man could not hide his excitement as he watched the couples from the wide window,
"Lady Claire would be happy to hear that the Boxton eldest daughter had sneaked out with another man!" He murmured with excitement.
Although the man spying, had no idea who the sliver haired man was, but could tell he was a wealthy man with his clothing. If he reported this juicy information to lady Claire, he would be rewarded handsomely.
The Boxton eldest daughter was nothing but a prostitute who sleeps around with different men! The man chuckled, he couldn’t wait to report it to his lady, he was about to climb down the tree, when suddenly a dagger flew to his back. He cried in pain as he fell off the tree. the man tried to get up, but the moment he stood up, another dagger flew to his neck, he wasn’t able to even scream as he choked on his blood.
The person who threw the dagger slowly emerged through the dim moonlight staring down at the dying man.
Merek looked at the man blankly as crouched down to pull out his dagger, the moment he pulled it out, blood started to ooze out from the man’s neck who was in the process of dying,
"You can never out smart me little rat!"
Merek had been trying to catch the man, but he had been playing hide and seek with him for a very long time now. He hated it when he failed to catch his prey!
Merek’s ears caught some little noises in the bushes behind him, he stood up as if he didn’t hear anything, and pretended to walk away.
The moment Merek walked away, a man dressed in all black walked out of the bushes, he wore a black mask on his face. But before the masked man knew it, a sword was placed around his neck from behind, "Who are you?!" Came Merek’s low but angry voice.

Back inside the restaurant.
Ara had started to eat from each and every one of the dishes, each dish had such mouth watering flavors, she felt that the place deserved it’s spot as the best restaurant in Findara, she tasted everything, but ate carefully because she could feel the eyes of the man sitting in front of her, he wasn’t eating but observing her as she ate. Didn’t he say he was hungry?
"You look more beautiful even when you eat." Hamon remarked.
Ara choked on her mouthful at his words.
Hamon was quick to stride towards her, he patted her back as he gave her a glass of water he had drank from. Ara took it without any hesitation to calm her throat, she gulped down the entire glass.
"You should be careful next time." Hamon remarked as he walked to sit down as if it wasn’t his fault that she choked,
"Thank you for your kind compliment, but I’d so much appreciate it if stop staring at me like that while I eat." Ara glared at him, he might not know this but his actions had her easily flustered.
Hamon sighed, "I can only see you when you’re with me, nothing else amuses me whenever you’re around. Everything else becomes an eyesore in your presence...so now I can only look at you."
Ara didn’t know what to say anymore. A normal person would look across the person they were dinning with, or even look away after hearing her words, but the Prince even rested his head on his hand on the table to stared at her even more with an annoying smile on his face.
She flushed visibly.
Ok she had enough already! Maybe it was time to start with her questions, she lost her appetite already. Ara placed down her fork and looked straight into his eyes, "The last time we met, you promised to answer all my questions on our next meeting."
"Did I?" He asked with a feigned clueless expression.
Ara couldn’t tell if he was pretending to not know what she was talking about, "You said you’d tell me why you agreed to my proposal. So tell me now." She said with an impatient tone.
