Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 44: Familiar feelings
Chapter 44: Familiar feelings
Despite the seriousness in Ara’s tone. Hamon wasn’t getting any of it, as his grin widened, "Wow, I didn’t know you cared this much about unimportant things, future wife."
"You__"
Ara was about to talk, but the sounds of musical instruments suddenly filled the entire hall, the performance was about to start on the stage. She didn’t want to ruin his first time watching a performance in the theater, so she zipped her mouth for now.
Ara sat back straight on her seat. Hamon glanced sideways to see she wasn’t talking again because of the performance, "We’ll continue our conversation when the performance is over, Alright?"
She nodded, "Alright." Then pressed her lips close as she fixed her eyes on the stage. Even though Ara’s eyes were on the stage, her attention was on the man sitting next to her, but she wordlessly watched the show from up the box.
Ara realized that the VVIP section were indeed an ideal space. Although, the stage was brightly lit, it was unlikely that anybody would spot them from where they were sitting. The chairs were pulled away from the balcony and hidden in the shadows, and the box itself seemed to be in a blind spot to the crowd’s below.
There were four more boxes in the hall, but it wasn’t easy to see them from where she sat either. Hamon had really done good by making sure nobody would spot them together yet, Ara couldn’t help but glance sideways to look at him. Hamon had really done a lot for her without even realizing it, she felt a little uncomfortable sitting with him in a dark small space like the box.
Ara stopped paying attention to the performance, and only stole glances at the Prince. Every single move he made, every little breath he took, she noticed. Ara’s chin was propped on her hand as she pretended to watch the show on the stage.
----
The curtains finally dropped on the stage. Hamon had been watching the show with an indifferent expression throughout, he couldn’t understand why people wasted their time on these kind of things, there was nothing interesting about the show that just took place on the stage.
Hamon sat straight on his seat as he shook his head in disbelief.
Ara noticed it, then asked curiously, "Did you enjoy the show?"
Hamon hummed, "Hmm. not as I expected, what about you?" He asked back as he turned to face her.
Honestly, it was a show Ara had been wanting to see with her sister in her past life, but now she couldn’t even remember what happened on the stage or what the show was about, as all her attention was on Hamon the entire time,
"Yes...I enjoyed it a lot." She lied.
Hamon smiled at her words, "If you enjoyed it then I’m satisfied...After our marriage I’ll bring you here often if you want." He remarked with a satisfied expression.
Ara suddenly felt as guilty as a child caught stealing, for lying to him.
"But I thought you said you didn’t like the show?" She asked.
"I don’t mind it as long as you enjoyed it, I’ll always accompany you in the future."
Hamon’s reply left her dumbfounded. Ara couldn’t understand why he was doing all this for her. She was about to ask him, when she saw him stand up from his seat. He then said,
"It’s better we leave now, to avoid many people on our way out."
Ara nodded, "Alright."
He was right if they don’t leave now, the people who had finished watching the show would flock the building hall. For now everybody was still seated. And Ara had a lot to talk about with Hamon, but they couldn’t have a conversation there.
She was about to rise from her seat, when she suddenly felt Hamon’s large hand held hers, his palm had a soothing warmth to it as her hands fit perfectly in his, Ara glanced up at him with puzzlement, then he said,
"Don’t worry. Am just holding you because I wouldn’t want to lose you in the middle of the crowd outside the building...let’s go."
Lose her in the crowd? There was no reason for her to refuse Hamon’s kind but weird behavior. Ara hesitated for a moment, before she gently rose from her seat with Hamon still holding her small hand in his.
Ara felt a strange sense of trepidation as she let him hold her, she couldn’t understand why she felt that way all of a sudden. She glanced at him to see that same gentle smile on his face, "Shall we go then?" He asked, when she nodded. Hamon gracefully led her out of the box still holding on to her like she would disappear if he let go, she couldn’t understand why the Prince act somehow strange at times, his intimate gestures always left her wondering escalating her curiosity.
Ara suddenly had a somewhat strange feeling of warmth spread through her, as she felt how he was clenching tightly to her hand as they walked out of the theater hall in the middle of his men, it elicited a small tingling down her stomach.
There was already a small crowds loitering at the entrance, but they couldn’t see the faces of the couple as the men were covering. Ara could hear the crowds murmur floating around,
"Who are they?"
"Maybe they are guest from Dumbarton kingdom!"
"Oh my god! I’ve always wanted to see the elites in Dumbarton, I bet they are beautiful!"
The crowds murmurs grew louder, as they heard someone in the crowd mention the name of the most richest kingdom, everybody were curious about the mysterious guests.
Ara clenched tightly at Hamon’s hand as the crowds rushed towards them, but the soldiers were quick to stop the crowds from moving towards them, they hurried to board the carriage, she sighed in relief when she was finally inside the carriage.
Hamon glanced sideways, he had felt how she clenched tightly on to his hand earlier, and she still had a nervous expression on her face, "Why do you worry so much about being caught with me?" He asked, there was a little hint of disappointment in his voice. He didn’t know why she was trying so hard to keep their relationship a secret when in the end she would end up being his wife.
"That’s not what am worried about..." Ara paused for a moment with a distance look on her face, before she continued in a small voice, "I don’t want my family to know about our contract...I ...I want them to think we fell in love at first sight at the grand ball, I don’t want them to know about all this...especially My sister, she would be worried."
Ara looked a little lost, as Anne’s happy face came to her mind. Then Henry’s who always pretended he didn’t care, but cared about her more than anyone else. Ara wanted her family to think she had found her Prince charming at the ball, and to make her sister believe that love really does exist, she wouldn’t want to cause them to worry about her choice of marrying the cursed crown Prince. Ara wanted them to believe it was because of love she chose him.
Ara who was lost in thought suddenly felt Hamon squeeze her hand in his, then heard him say,
"Don’t worry about your family finding out about our contract, I’ll make sure no one ever knows about it...The royal grand ball is in three days from now, we would put on a great show for the audience at the ball." He assured with a playful tone.
Hamon’s assurance strangely made her felt at ease somehow, Ara gave him a faint smile. Strangely she still let him hold her hand without drawing back even though they were already in the carriage. Why does it fell like it was supposed to be that way? Ara glanced at their entangled hands. She felt a familiar feeling she couldn’t understand, it felt right, it felt like it was meant to be that way, it felt like...Home?
As Ara was busy thinking, she didn’t realize the carriage was driving to the opposite direction until she looked out from the window, she turned her gaze to Hamon with a questioning look, he then explained,
"I want us to have dinner together, so we could have enough time to talk."
Ara nodded without saying anything, she had no intention to oppose his idea, because their meetings before had always been brief, so this could be a good opportunity to have a proper conversation over dinner. Maybe she could even ask him about the dresses.
