Chapter 34: "We won’t take long."

"Let’s go." Anne said to the coachman impatiently.

"Yes, my lady."

The coachman snapped the reigns, and the carriage slowly began to move forward. Anne peeked out of the window to wav at Henry until he was out of sight. The carriage started to move fast, as the beautiful scenery passed outside the carriage window.

"This grand ball is going to be amazing, I can’t wait to meet the crown Prince." Anne mumbled as she relaxed her back on the carriage seat with her eyes closed as if she was day dreaming.

Ara glanced towards her sister and said, "Sure, you will meet him. And it’s going to be memorable." She smiled contentedly ignorant of what was waiting for them on the day of the grand ball.

**********

After a few hours of traveling in the carriage. The Boxton carriage finally reached their holiday home in the southern part of Findara, where it was mostly cold, the northern part of Findara was mostly warmer than the southern part. As Findara was the largest kingdom amongst the four lands.

They reached the holiday home at night time, immediately they stepped inside the house. Anne went straight to her room as she collapsed on the bed and almost immediately fell asleep, while Ara looked around the house. The holiday home wasn’t as big as the main mansion in the north, but the house wouldn’t be considered small as well. Ara looked up at the family painting hanging on the wall. In the painting they all looked happy, but Anne wasn’t in the painting as she hadn’t been born then, it was both their parents with Henry and Ara.

Henry’s looks hadn’t changed much, however, he looked much happier back then, he had his hand around their mother’s neck with a wide smile on his face, and Richard was holding the little Ara on his lap whose emerald eyes were gleaming with a childish care free attitude, they all looked like one big happy family in the painting. Ara remembered when they used to spend time in the holiday home, when their father got back from the frontlines. Their mother would also stay at the door to welcome him. Ara smiled as she recalled the old memories of their mother.

She went to Anne’s room to find Anne curled up in bed without a blanket. Ara strode to her sister on the bed, covering her up with a thick blanket and added some woods to the fire place to keep the room warm. Then sat beside the bed and pulled Anne’s blanket up to her chin. Ara stood up, "Goodnight." She mumbled and gently kissed Anne’s forehead, Ara carefully closed the door to avoid disturbing Anne’s sleep. Then went to her own room beside Anne’s.

However, as soon as she entered her dark unlit room, she sensed a subtle presence in the room. Ara held her breath and focused on locating the intruder’s hiding place, her emerald green eyes scanned across the room. Her eyes suddenly caught sight of a man’s silhouette on the sofa in her room. Who could it be?

Ara made her way to the small wardrobe in the room, she opened the drawer to bring out a sharp hairpin clutching it tightly in her palm, but froze when she heard a familiar voice said, "What took you so long to get here, future wife?" Ara stopped in her tracks as the man got up to walk towards her in the dark.

She frowned, "What are you doing sitting in my room?" Ara asked as she lit up the lantern beside her, when she turned, Hamon was already in front of her. Ara lift her head and met with amusement shinning deep in his crimson eyes,

"Is that how you’re supposed to greet your husband to be, who came all the way from the castle just to see you? He whispered, his warm breath brushed past her ear, a blush crept up to Ara’s cheeks, as she was suddenly aware of his closeness. He looked just as handsome as she remembered, she got lost in his mesmerizing red eyes.

"You...can’t just come into a woman’s room like that, your highness..." She spoke, Hamon placed his long slender finger on her lips, as he spoke in a low husky voice, "I’ve missed you. I told you to come early, but you kept me waiting. I couldn’t help myself, because I wanted to see you."

Ara looked astonished, she was taken aback by his words. Did he really just said he missed her? Why? Ara didn’t know what to respond to his words, she stood there frozen as a statue, not even aware of how close Hamon was.

"Your Highness__"

Hamon narrowed his eyes at her, "How long has it been and you’ve already changed my name? You’re going against the contract even before the marriage." He remarked with amusement in his voice, as he stared at her like a predator.

"I...forgot, because you surprised me..." Ara trailed off, she had completely forgotten about the agreement in the contract to address him by his name when they were alone. Ara was about to apologize when Hamon suddenly said something unexpected,

"Let’s go out together tonight."

Ara was taken aback again, "Huh?"

Hamon had heard from Merek that Ara was on her way to the south today. Ever since he saw the letter that they were already on their way, Hamon had been eager to meet her again, he couldn’t wait until the ball. Hamon left all the work he was doing in the castle and came to the Boxton holiday home to welcome Ara, but found there was nobody at the house. They hadn’t arrived yet, he took a walk inside the small mansion, before he finally found her room, he knew it was her room because of the painting on the wall. He had sat in the room for hours waiting for her, he couldn’t just leave without spending some time with her.

When Hamon saw she wasn’t responding he whispered to her ear, "We won’t take long."
