Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 326: Labor

Chapter 326: Labor

Days flew by in the blink of an eye, the awful winter’s batteringly gusting wind sounds resounded in the lands, the snow covered the entire grounds making the streets of Findara look deserted as every single soul were taking warmth under the roofs of their homes as the evening approached.

However, it wasn’t the same in the palace which looked chaotic with countless servants running up and down the corridors to get the items needed for the queen, who was in labor.

Few days ago before the queen’s labor, Ara was starting to notice that her husband was acting strange and would sometimes say words that didn’t make sense to her, she also noticed how he spent most of his time in the study lately, sometimes he would be having a secret conversation with Emma, and whenever she asked, Emma would tell her that were only discussing about irrelevant things. At first, Ara didn’t think much of it, however she couldn’t over look his behavior, he was always absent minded in whatever he was doing.

Nevertheless, Ara knew Hamon so well, he wouldn’t be like that for no reason at all, so she took it upon herself to investigate the reason behind his strange behavior and decided to go and see what he spent his time doing in the study lately. But what she found him doing in the study shocked her into labor.

She found Hamon writing in the last will book. Why was he doing that when he wasn’t dying? Ara demanded for an explanation, however before Hamon could even speak, Ara’s water had broken and came sliding down her dress. Seeing the water, Ara had let out a loud scream.

Hamon who had been reading about pregnancy books immediately knew that she was in labor and quickly got into action.

Ara had been poisoned, hit by arrows and was even stabbed with a sword before, however she had never experienced such pain like this before. The whole world seemed to whirl before her eyes, she didn’t even realized when she was taken into the labor room.

The three midwives who were in charge of her, surrounded her, she could hear their voices crying out to her, "Your Majesty, you must push! Please don’t lose consciousness at this stage!"

"Aaaagh!" Ara wanted to obey them, but her body hurt so much that she found it difficult to command it. As the period of her labor grew longer, so was the worry in everyone’s minds in the palace. However, everyone’s worries paled in comparison to Hamon, who was waiting impatiently outside the labor room.

He couldn’t remain still and kept pacing restlessly outside the room. A terrifying energy was emanating from him as his worry grew bigger with each passing second. He had thought he wouldn’t live to witness this day, but the heavens were kind enough to grant him this chance to see his wife deliver safely. Nevertheless, he knew he had some explaining to give to her once her labor was over, however at this moment he didn’t care about anything but his wife’s safety.

Olivier, who quietly stood next to him was starting to get concerned about the terrifying energy the king was emanating, he was worried that Hamon’s fragile sanity would soon snap and he might end up going on a rampage if the scream coming from the labor room continued.

BANG!

The impatient Hamon angrily kicked a table with his feet as his wife’s scream continued to resound from the room.

"What the hell is taking them this long to take those little demons out of her?"

Olivier hurriedly tried to calm him down, "Your Majesty, it depends on the mother’s strength, but some labors take a long time, please wait a little longer..." Before Olivier could finish speaking, there was another scream in the room, followed by a baby’s loud cry,

"Waaah!"

"Congratulations, one is out. It’s a girl!"

"Your majesty, you have to stay conscious, push harder!"

"Aaaagh!"

Hamon’s face paled when he heard Ara’s scream. It sounded like something had gone wrong with her. He impatiently yanked away the ascot tie on his neck, "Let me in right now. I don’t care what happens to the second child, but my wife most not get harmed!"

Olivier hurriedly blocked the door to stop Hamon from bursting inside, "Your Majesty, please calm down." He spread his arms to block Hamon from entering.

However, Hamon looked ready to storm past Olivier if he didn’t move out of his way, hence Olivier quickly called Emma to go in and check instead of allowing the impatient king to step inside.

Hamon resumed to pace around outside the room, if he had to choose between the children or his wife, he would choose Ara unhesitatingly. His usual proud expression was now hardened with tension, and it was the first time any of the servants around had seen him with such impatience.

As Ara’s screams grew louder and filled with pain, his tolerance grew thinner. He couldn’t wait outside any longer, just when he felt that he was at his limit.

"Waaaah!" At last, the second child’s wane broke out.

Hamon heard the sound and couldn’t stand it any longer and immediately burst into the labor room. Several people were diligently scurrying about, as various items needed for the labor were scattered all around the room. It was a dizzying sight, but amidst this organized chaos, Hamon’s eyes feel only on one person.

His wife. She was laying on the bed all covered in sweat despite the winter cold, he didn’t waste anytime and quickly approached her. He wiped her forehead with his sleeve and spoke in a hoarse voice, "You did well."

Ara was too weak to even form a single word, so she responded with a faint smile to let him know she was all right. He gave her hand a gentle squeeze and smiled back at her warmly.

Emma and one of the midwives sidled up to Hamon, each one of them carrying a bundle of white blankets. Emma then said, "Congratulations, your majesty. You have a beautiful, healthy baby girl and a baby boy."

Hamon’s trembling red eyes looked from one baby to the other. The babies already had a head of thin hairs. The girl had a thin strand of red hair just like Ara, while the boy had hints of sliver hair like Hamon.

Emma and the midwife held out the babies to Hamon, but he simply stared at them not making any attempt to take them. Emma looked up, and met the king’s glistening red eyes, "... Your Majesty?" She called softly, but yet he didn’t move and stared at the babies motionlessly. Emma’s heart felt heavy just by looking at him, she couldn’t imagine what he must be going through internally knowing he had little time left to live or to even be a father to his children.

When Hamon didn’t move, Ara looked at him in puzzlement, "...Hamon?" At that moment, she could sense his fear in his stiff posture.

Hamon had spent all his entire life believing that the blood that flowed through his veins made him a monster and nothing good would ever come from him, but bad luck. But now, seeing these two little demons of his, he felt some unknown warmth as well as pain in his heart. After knowing he’d soon perish, he hadn’t expected he’d be around to ever see his children. And right now, he couldn’t bring himself to hold them for the fear of this moment being a dream.

His red eyes swelled with tears. This could be the first and last time he’d be a father to them. As if sensing his pains, both of the babies tightly closed eyelids began to open at the same time. Hamon’s teary eyes widened ever so slightly.

His daughter had the same deep red eyes that resembled his, while his son who inherited his sliver hair had the same green eyes as Ara. And the pair of green and red eyes stared at him as if urging him to carry them.

Most babies would mostly not even open their eyes at this stage and would do nothing but cry, however his little demons were different, their eyes looked clear as the day, as if they were already a month old. Hamon’s eyes trembled even more as he foght back his tears.

Hamon’s stiffened expression soon relaxed, and a small smile broke on his lips. His children. As if possessed, he slowly took the babies in each arm, he stared at them in his arms with a warm expression. And the tears he’d be fighting back slowly slid down his cheeks,

"Hara and Raha..." He muttered softly, the tears on his cheek slowly slid down and fell on Hara’s forehead. Her little face creased deeply as if displeased. Hamon’s smile widened at the sight however his tears didn’t cease and kept sliding down his eyes like a dam.

Ara, who was silently watching the scene also got emotional as tears swelled her eyes as well. She felt relieved seeing that Hamon held their children. Although, she had a lot of things to talk to him about, like why he was writing a will...but her body was too weak to even hold their babies. Thus she just watched them silently.

Hamon turned towards her and held out their babies to her face as he spoke with a faint note of pride, "Look? Our children, and they are looking at me..."

At his words, Ara nodded with a smile. Their children looked healthy, and they were a combination of both of them. It was an emotional scene to anybody who was watching the couple in tears of joy as they watched their babies.

This day marked the day of Hara and Raha’s birth. However it would also mark the day the king would be no more, the ending of his existence.
