Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 327: Farewell my love
Chapter 327: Farewell my love
After the long stressful labor, Ara couldn’t keep her eyes open and fell asleep immediately after she was cleaned by the maids. Hamon stood by her side with the babies all the while, promising her he’d be here when she’d wake up, only then did Ara close her eyes and fell into a deep slumber.
As Hamon stood next to the cradles admiring his sleeping little demons with a warm expression. He gently stroked Hara’s cheek, before moving to Rara, there was hesitance in his eyes, if he could have his way, he would want to be there to raise them, with Ara, he wondered how their life would be as a family, if fate hadn’t put a painful burden upon them. He stared at his children’s faces for a while more before he then mumbled in a whisper, "My little demons, don’t be too hard on your mother in my absence...take good care of her, and... don’t let her feel lonely. You_Augh!"
Hamon suddenly felt an unbearably pain clutched his chest, it felt as if his heart was being ripped out of his chest. Hamon staggered gritting his teeth to hold in the pained sounds that were rising up his throat, he coughed out a small amount of blood from his mouth, that fell on his white shirt staining it with a few deep red patches. Slowly, he glanced down at the blackish blood stain on his shirt with his forehead creased deeply in confusion.
"Your majesty, it’s time..." Came Emma’s trembling voice from behind him. Today was the full moon, the stone would perish slowly until there was nothing left of it. However, it would eat away Hamon’s being along with it until there was nothing left of him to remember.
A sorrowful expression crossed his face, before he nodded his head with a heavy heart, "All right...I guess time does really fly too fast when one isn’t ready." He said in a voice barely above a whisper, before he looked down at the babies.
"Today was supposed to be a joyous day... I’m sorry your birthday will be stained with bad memories, I hope you remember this... father loves you. I’m more than glad that I got to meet you two before I leave." He whispered softly. If he had a choice, he would have chosen to be with his family till the end of time. However, fate was cruel to them.
Hamon had a lump in his throat and was trying to blink away the tears, he closed his eyes as he let the tears slide down his face, he then leaned down and picked the twins into his arms, he placed a tender kiss on each of their foreheads, before he reluctantly placed them back on their bed. He had to leave before Ara would wake up...
He turned towards the bed where she was sleeping peacefully. Hamon strode towards the bed and sat on the edge, afraid of waking her, he raised his hand and lightly stroked her cheek, " My wife...I am sorry, but I have to do this." He muttered breathily with his voice sounding hoarse, his gaze trailed her beautiful yet exhausted face with deep pain between his brows.
As he stared at her, every passing memory they had spent together flashed in his mind, these were memories that were now locked Into his identity, and he would take them with him like a trophy to the next world.
"Thank you, for coming into my life." He mumbled softly.
In a lifetime, a person is gifted to get to meet the person that would forever hold their hearts once, but he had received that gift twice, and those moments were the best in both his lifetimes. The first being the very first time he saw her in greenwood, the second being the very first time they met as she came to rescue him then proposed to him.
She had brought a sunshine to his once empty life, and because of that, he was more than grateful, her existence was the best thing that had ever happened to him, and he would want her to keep living on. Someday his memories would fade and she would learn to be happy again.
He leaned down and placed a lingering kiss on the side of her lips, it lasted for almost a minute before he straightened his posture. He then tucked his hands into his pocket and brought out a red envelope containing his letter to her when she woke up, he carefully placed it beside her pillow. He was grateful she slept; he would never have been able to say his goodbyes to her face.
He glanced up at Emma, "Please take good care of her. I have to leave." He said as he stood to his feet and looked down at Ara one last time. He then handed another brown envelope to Emma, "This is for you, please take care of yourself as well."
Emma, who stood in the room couldn’t even bring herself to say anything as she was trying to control her sobs. With trembling hands, she took the envelope he handed her, "... your majesty, I’m sorry I couldn’t do anything to stop this day. I’m sorry." She cried.
"Please don’t be, it’s not your fault. It’s the price we have to pay for messing with mother nature." He smiled to assure her. But immediately, his smile broke into pain as he coughed out another mouth full of blood.
"Your majesty...!" Emma quickly wanted to approach him, but he held out his hand to stop her, "I...I have to go..." He forced himself to speak through the pain that clutched his heart and throat. He glanced down at Ara one last time, ’Farewell, my love.’ he gave his final farewell, then moved quietly out of the room, but before he closed the door, he offered Emma a small nod of his head to show his gratitude.
The pain in Hamon’s chest intensified with each step he took to sneak out of the palace grounds without being noticed by any guards. However, his body couldn’t seem to take it anymore, and the moment he managed to step out of the gates, he fell to his knees on the snow. The pain ate at his whole body he struggled not to scream.
Black blood began dripping from his mouth, staining the snow around him. The pale winter moon hung in the sky as the snow continued fluttering from the sky, falling down upon him. His time was fading away, he looked down at the halves of the stone in his hand which have now turned completely black, one of the half was starting to turn into black dust, slippering down through his fingers.
Ever so slowly, Hamon began to feel like he was floating on clouds, he gazed dazedly towards the palace gates. But his thoughts kept drifting back to Ara. Why hadn’t he known it would hurt this badly to leave the person you love behind? Yet he had to leave. His life, his time, weren’t here with her.
Still, he kneeled on the snow waiting for his time to click away as he recalled his precious moments with Ara, every single one of them.
"Ara..." He called her name one last time as the other half of the stone started turning into dust, "Be safe," he murmured with a sad smile. Then gave in and allowed himself to be taken. Just like that, he slowly began to turn into black dust, fading away with the battering gusts of wind, until there was nothing left of him. If not for the traces of blood on the snow, it was as if he had never been there.
Hamon’s being had been completely wiped out, without a single trace of him remaining.
Was this the end of the demon king Hamon De Biville?
---
"Hamon!" Ara’s eyes flew opened as she woke up from her terrible nightmare of seeing her husband perish in the snow. She sighed in relief when she thought it was just a nightmare, because Hamon had promised to stay by her side until she woke up. ’Such a terrible nightmare...’ she thought.
However, when she looked around the room, they was no signs of Hamon, but Emma who was sobbing in the corner of the room staring at a brown envelope in her hand.
Ara sensed something to be off, her heart beat quickened as if it were about to explode. She suddenly started to feel uneasy, and couldn’t even bring herself to ask the reason Emma was crying.
With trembling lips she managed to ask, "Emma, why are you crying? Where is Hamon?" Her eyes swelled up with tears already, could her nightmare be true? She’d seen Hamon turn into dust on the snowy grounds in her nightmare just now, she’d tried to reach him, wanting to grab his hand but all she did was grab air as he disintegrated into black dust that fluttered off with the wind. His last words in her nightmare were, ’Ara, stay safe.’
No! That couldn’t be, he’d promised to stay by her side. It was just some stupid nightmare messing up her mind. But...why was Emma crying?
"Emma, answer me, where is Hamon?!" She demanded sternly when Emma wasn’t speaking but crying her eyes out.
Emma sniffled between her words, "His...his majesty, is gone... I’m sorry." She completely broke down again.
Ara was dumbstruck for a moment, sitting still in place as if trying to process the information, before she slowly shook her head in denial, "No, you’re lying to me, Hamon would never leave me. He promised me he’d be here when I wake up...you must be mistaken. Emma tell me the truth, where is my husband?" She questioned as tears began to roll down her cheeks. She refused to believe such lies, Hamon would surely not leave her. He’d never once lied to her about anything.
"Emma..." Ara called when Emma’s sobs only increased. She pushed the blanket aside and was about to step out of bed to go and look for Hamon herself, when her eyes caught sight of a red envelope beside her pillow.
With trembling hands, she reached for it. She opened it and brought out the folded letter inside it. Ara immediately recognized the handwriting, it was Hamon’s. The uneasy feeling in her heart intensified even before she read what was written.
Ara’s green eyes trembled as she began to read the contents of the letter. She sobbed heartbreakingly as she read it. How could this be possible? No...
The letter read, [’To my dear loving wife. Perhaps I’d be gone by the time you’d be reading this. Ara, you know what they say; there is no love without sacrifices. I hope you will find it in your heart to forgive me for doing this.
I Know it was selfish of me, but Ara, I can’t remain in a world without you. I will be living incomplete without you, I have said this countless times before; without you, I am nothing. I will only be a punishment to everyone on earth and myself. You’d be a better option to live and take good care of our kids than I will. You’ve suffered enough in our past life, you deserve to live longer, with your family just like you’ve always wanted. Don’t let my death change anything in your life... ’
At this rate, Ara was already a crying mess, her tears of sadness falling down on the sheet of paper like showers of rain as she sobbed painfully. How could this happen? How could he suddenly be gone? One minute he was with her, and the next he was gone for good? She couldn’t bring herself to accept that.
As if a kind of hope was written there she resumed to read the letter however, her heart was breaking, she could feel it, he was truly gone.
’If you miss me, just call out to the wind and I’ll be there by your side. When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, your love for me will be faint. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. Then your memories of me will fade with the wind...]
Ara didn’t finish reading the letter as she broke down completely, she sobbed into her hands, with a strangled scream, her shoulders trembling uncontrollable.
"Hamon...Hamon, Why?" She spoke sadly, then screamed with tears of sorrow streaming down her face, "You are such a bastard! I won’t forgive you for leaving me alone. You promised me, didn’t you? Why did you leave me behind?" She clutched tightly to her chest as she felt a numbing pain in her heart, slowly, she slid to the ground. Her tears due to sorrow fell like a steady stream.
It wasn’t just a dream, but her Hamon was really no more? He didn’t lie when he repeatedly told her he’d die for her. Was this the reason he held the banquet before her labor? But she had seen and dreamt of their happy family of four living happily together. To have a life of peace and joy, with the love she didn’t believe she was fated to have before.
With trembling hands, she resumed to read the letter, [Ara, if you really love me... please don’t let this ruin your life, live, be happy. Only when you’re happy will I rest in peace as well. If we are fated to be together, then we will meet again someday. If the heavens smile upon us someday, we shall meet.
Farewell, my love.]
