Chapter 325: It’s changing quickly

As time passed and Ara’s due date approached, she frequently felt sharp pains in her stomach, in addition, headaches and dizziness were common, so many people hovered around Ara’s vicinity for any possible situations. As such, Hamon’s concern for her only increased, he completed the minimal amount of work for the day, then went back to his wife’s side in their chamber.

"My wife, how are you feeling?" He asked the moment he stepped inside the chamber.

Ara smiled faintly as she lay on the soft bed, "I feel much better, don’t worry. The physician said there is nothing to worry about for now."

Hamon’s eyebrows drew together into a frown as he sat himself on the edge of the bed and said, "How can I not worry? If I knew that pregnancy comes with all these pains, and would make you suffer...I would have avoided getting you pregnant in the first place."

"Shh, Hamon the babies are listening to you." She said in a low voice, but despite her words, Hamon glared disapprovingly at her rounded stomach. The babies had been putting Ara through a lot of stress as of late. He had heard of many case of sickness, and death during childbirth. To be safe, he had arranged for expert midwives in advance to avoid any of those cases. He wouldn’t want to lose his wife in childbirth, he had already sacrificed a lot to keep her alive, his sacrifices wouldn’t go in vain. He’d vowed to keep her alive no matter what, she had suffered enough in their previous life, she deserved to live long in this lifetime.

Hamon raised his hand and gently stroked Ara’s face, "I never want to see my wife suffer, but don’t worry, you won’t ever go through this pregnancy again. Which ever gender they turn out to be, they will be my successors in the future."

Hamon knew that if Ara came to know about his decision to take the curse of the stone upon himself, she wouldn’t agree and would likely go to any extent to try to avoid it, which might cost her life instead. Hence, he would rather keep it a secret for as long as he could until the day he’d perish. One of his children would be his successors one day, be it a girl or a boy.

Though a daughter would be difficult to be his successor due to the low advancement of their lands, but that mattered little to Hamon, he had already made all the arrangements if it turned out to be daughters in the future. His time was numbered already, he had to make the other preparations for his wife to live a peaceful life as well.

As Hamon was lost in his thoughts, Ara suddenly winced and held her belly with both hands, snapping him out of his thoughts, "Ahh!"

Hamon worriedly asked, "Is it the pain again? Wait." He stood up and was about to summon the old physician again, but before he could teleport, Ara quickly grabbed his sleeve with one hand and shook her head, "I’m fine, let the royal physician rest, he already said it was a natural symptom at this stage and nothing to worry about."

"But that physician..."

"Hamon, the pain will soon stop, I can handle this."

Just as Ara said, he had seen her go through these phases before. The pain naturally disappeared each time, so it was useless calling the physician again unless it was some abnormally. Hamon sat himself back next to her, looking more pained than she was.

He could no longer watch her in pain, thus he began to gently rub her hands and feet in hopes of easing her tension. Fortunately, Ara’s pain did not last long, and soon her expression relaxed again. With her eyes still moistened, she muttered softly, "Thank you."

"I wish I could take away the pain for you completely." He said.

At the seriousness of his words, Ara chuckled. He didn’t know how much his words meant to her, he truly was a loving man. Because he was by her side, she could endure any hardships and pain, he was her strength as well as weakness.

"Hamon, as long as you are here with me, there’s nothing I want more than to have you by my side till the end of time. And very soon, we will be a complete family once I give birth."

Hamon, who was adjusting Ara’s blanket stopped dead in his tracks at her words. ’till the end of time’ was now something like an empty impression for him. Yes, their family was supposed to be complete, but unfortunately he would be excluded very soon. He didn’t even want to imagine what Ara would go through. Although, it might seem selfish of him, but he’d rather be the one to die than live a life without her in it...

But what about her? She would be heartbroken and perhaps wouldn’t forgive him for keeping all this away from her. Hamon swallowed the huge lump in his throat as he forced himself to smile when he met her green eyes staring at him.

"What’s wrong?" She asked softly, but he shook his head, "Nothing, just wondering about the babies gender."

Ara smiled not thinking much about his strange behavior, then said, "Hamon, which do you prefer; two girls or two boys, or maybe a boy and a girl?"

"I prefer two beautiful girls who will look like you." As he spoke, his red eyes glimmered with a warm light. He wore a soft smile as he stared at her belly.

Ara pursed her lips, "But you should also consider boys, too."

"No, they are too troublesome, you won’t be able to tame two demon boys on your own."

Ara’s green eyes narrowed suspiciously, "On my own? How can I do that alone when you will be there to tame them as well?"

Hamon realized his slip of tongue and quickly said, "Of course, I’ll be there. It’s just that I don’t want you going through the trouble with boys."

Ara shook her head at Hamon’s radically different attitude towards daughters and sons. He wanted daughters who looked like her from the start, while she wanted boys who looked like him. After a moment of reflection, she spoke,

"You know what, if they turned out to be both genders...Hara will be the female, and Raha will the given to the male. What do you think?"

Hamon gave a nod, "Sounds fair to me. The ’Ha’ in my name will be the same with my daughter, and I like that."

"What if the heavens burst your tiny little bubbles and they turned out to be two boys?"

At Ara’s words, Hamon chuckled then leaned down and kissed her cheek, "Of course I don’t mind the gender, as long as they are our children."

Ara couldn’t help but smile faintly, then an unbidden yawn escaped from her mouth. Hamon immediately noticed her exhaustion and laid her body down more comfortably.

"You look tried, rest. You were tossing and turning last night as well, take a nap for some time."

Ara hummed in response with her eyes already heavy with sleep, "Hmm." She adjusted her head More comfortably on the soft pillow, looking up at Hamon with her hazy eyes. He then leaned down and placed a lingering kiss on her forehead, his expression was filled with warmth and affection for her alone,

"I’ll stay with you until you wake up, have a good sleep and then you can eat whatever you desire for dinner."

Ara smiled, "All right."

"Sleep well, my love." Hamon’s voice rang pleasantly in her ears, and she closed her eyes to fall into the long comfortable slumber, she felt very warm and happy...like she was walking on cloud nine. Unknown to her that in a few weeks she would be facing her worst nightmare.

Seeing that Ara was already fast asleep, Hamon made to lay down next to her, however was suddenly interrupted by the soft knock on the door. To avoid disturbing Ara’s sleep, he strode to the door and opened it, he was met with Emma who had a look of panic on her face.

"What’s wrong? Is everything alright?" He asked as he stepped out of the room and closed the door behind him.

Emma bowed, "Your Majesty, it’s about the stone..."

"What happened to it?" He asked.

"It’s... changing quickly, you don’t have much time left anymore. It’s as if, after I sealed the curse with your fate, it’s changing faster than it did before..." Emma had performed a little black magic to seal Hamon’s fate with the stone like he said to save Ara’s life, however recently it started to change to a more darker color, almost black and once completely black, it would perish away with Hamon.

Howeve, despite Emma’s worried expression, Hamon simply looked clam and relaxed. "How much time do I have left?" He asked.

"You have until the full moon..."

"Full moon? That’s in weeks!" Hamon’s red eyes widened slightly in surprise. He’d thought he had at least months left, but just weeks?

Hamon closed his eyes and took a deep breath before opening them again to say, "Alright. Just remember this, no matter what, don’t let Ara ever find out about this until...I’m gone."
