Chapter 321: The little boy’s conditions
Chapter 321: The little boy’s conditions
Inside the spacious parlour room of the Boxton mansion, Eadlin and Henry, as well as Derian and his son Crispin were seen sitting quietly, as none of them spoke after Henry’s declaration of canceling the wedding, and also admitting to be in love with Eadlin to Derian.
The heavy silence was starting to get uncomfortable for Eadlin, who was placed on the high spot after Henry’s declaration to the father and son. She couldn’t even bring herself to meet their eyes and simply lowered her head as the guilt weighed heavily in her heart. She couldn’t help but feel guilty for disappointing Crispin. However, as if sensing her emotions, Henry placed his hand on top of hers to comfort her.
Nevertheless, Derian didn’t miss that small action of the young lord of the Boxton household. He sighed deeply before finally breaking the awkward silence that had been hanging in the atmosphere.
"Well, as of now, I have nothing much to say but to wish you two a happy life ahead. And I’m glad you realized your feelings for lady Eadlin before I got to take her to Eringdalle. I never really had the intentions to get married for myself, but to find a woman that would be a good mother to my son, and I must admit, I noticed my son seems to get along with you, lady Eadlin, which is the main reason I thought of making you my wife in the first place." He admitted, then smiled bitterly as he looked towards Eadlin who was still avoiding his gaze, he said,
"Lady Eadlin, you have nothing to feel guilty about, though I would have liked you to be a mother to my son, I never really had any intentions of marrying because of any kind of feelings. And now, I wouldn’t want to limit your happiness. Please rest assured that I hold no grudges against you whatsoever for cutting off our marriage, and I’m genuinely happy for you." He smiled genuinely.
Tears pooled up in Eadlin’s brown eyes as she met Derian’s gaze. "Thank you, lord Derian for your understanding..." She muttered softly before looking towards the little boy, who had been sitting quietly the whole time.
Crispin exhaled deeply, then stood up from his seat and walked towards Eadlin with his hands behind his back like a grown man. He glared at Henry who had his hand on top of Eadlin’s, before he raised his hand and pulled her hand out of Henry’s hold.
Henry was slightly taken aback by the little brat’s attitude, but decided to stay quiet and see what the boy was up to.
Crispin cleared his throat, "Ahem, I have a confession to make, and also some conditions to state." He announced as he looked from Henry to Eadlin, "I never really liked the idea of you being my mother, lady Eadlin. However, my father here." He pointed dramatically towards Derian, who was giving him a warning glare, but didn’t pay heeds to the warnings and continued to speak, "My father had talked me into agreeing to accept your marriage with him, I didn’t want you as my mother, but my future wife."
Derian face palmed at his son’s nonsense again, he really couldn’t believe he had wanted to get married to make this brat of his happy.
Henry and Eadlin exchanged glances at Crispin’s unexpected confession. Eadlin smiled awkwardly, but didn’t speak as it seemed the boy wasn’t done speaking.
Crispin resumed to speak confidently, "Well, I’ll also admit that I’m happy you didn’t get to marry this mean old punk of mine. It’s a bonus for me." He then looked towards Henry, his cute adorable face turning serious, "lord Henry, I will state my conditions to you now, only if you agree to them will I allow you to marry the woman of my dreams, understand?" He raised a questioning brow at Henry.
Henry couldn’t believe that this little brat was now his love rival, and he would have to make a deal with him before he could be allowed to be with Eadlin. Henry awkwardly glanced at Eadlin, who simply shrugged as if to say she had no say in this.
Henry gave a curt nod of his head, before he asked, "What are your conditions?"
Crispin’s lips curved into an adorable smile, showing his little bunny front teeth, he looked more like his age with such smile, however he quickly changed his expression, and spoke seriously, "Well, the first condition; you will love and cherish, lady Eadlin. And if you fail to do so, I will personally make your life a living hell, just like I did with my father." He gave his father a once over look. However, Derian simply sighed and decided not to interfere with the brat.
Henry looked towards Derian, who gave him a look that says it your call, now you have to answer to the brat as well.
Henry gave a nod, "I agree."
Crispin resumed with a satisfied look, "Good, my second condition; I will be allowed to visit the Boxton mansion any time I want, and I will be treated like family."
Henry didn’t see anything wrong with that condition and gave a nod, "I agree."
Crispin smiled then resumed as he paced around the parlour room now, "My third and last condition... Your first daughter will be reserved for me, I will have the honor to be her future husband. And I will visit frequently to monitor her in the future. Do you agree?"
The room went silent, even Derian was taken aback at his son’s condition. Eadlin and Henry exchanged another astonished glance. The little boy was already reserving his future wife even before they got married.
Disapproval lines were quick to form on Henry’s forehead, he was about to refuse, but Eadlin placed a hand on his. She then spoke to the little boy with a smile, "We agree to all your conditions, Crispin."
Crispin eyes brightened up, "Really?!" He exclaimed, and when Eadlin nodded her head, the little boy jumped up in excitement. If he couldn’t marry the woman of his dreams, then he would wait to marry her daughter instead. And thankfully Eadlin wouldn’t be marrying his father anymore, this way he would be able to marry her future daughter.
Eadlin, who had been feeling guilty about disappointing the little boy, finally felt at ease seeing the happiness in his expression. She had thought he would be heart broken after learning that she wouldn’t be able to marry his father, but the little boy surprisingly seemed more happier than the time she’d agreed to be his mother.
Eventually, after their discussion in the parlour room, and after Eadlin assured Crispin again that he could visit her anytime he wanted, they walked the father and son back to their carriage, and bade them farewell.
Eadlin and Henry walked back inside the mansion hand in hand.
__
A week passed after Henry’s confession to Eadlin, and her days in the Boxton mansion became more lively, however Henry had become a whole new different person, he could hardly get separated from Eadlin and would find every little opportunity to be with her.
Henry who never missed a day in his training hall, had not for once stepped foot inside the hall for four whole days. Even his guards were starting to wonder if he was sick,
"Sire Froylan, is lord Henry sick? He hasn’t been in the training hall lately."
"Yes, lord Henry never fails to come and train. He must be sick, I think we should send for the physician to check on him."
Froylan signed deeply hearing his subordinates voice their concern for Henry, of course, his lord was sick, but not any normal sickness which medicine could cure. Lovesickness. In all his time of being with Henry, he had never seen him slack in his training or even miss a day without coming to the hall. Well, it was true what they say; love can change a man.
As Henry’s guards were worrying about him in the training hall, the latter was still laying on his cozy bed with his wife to be. Eadlin had taken it upon herself to be the one to wake him up every morning, however, today she had come to do just that, but ended up being pulled on the bed by Henry. He pulled the blanket to cover them both and wrapped her in his embrace while saying he wanted to sleep more. Eadlin didn’t protest and allowed him to hold her.
Since she would be getting married to him, she saw no harm in laying on the same bed as him. Henry had announced his decision to make her his wife to lord Richard a few days ago, and the middle aged man simply agreed without any word of a protest. Richard had tried to match Henry up with countless noble daughters, but he had refused to meet any of them, thus, it was good news that his son had finally decided to settle down instead of remaining a bachelor all his life.
Eadlin smiled as she recalled the genuine smile on the general’s face as he welcomed her as one of the Boxton’s after Henry’s declaration in the dinning hall. Now she finally had the people she could call family of her own. There was only one person left to tell...
Hamon.
She would have to face him whether she wanted or not, she would need his blessings before getting married. He was the only blood relative she had left in this world, and she wanted to cherish that.
Eadlin turned to face Henry, who still had his eyes closed. She flushed to the root as his arm tightened around her waist, he tugged her closer, "Stop moving..." He muttered, his voice, deep and husky with sleep. His brownish hair looked disheveled, however that didn’t make him less handsome, his usual stoned face, looked soft and different in his sleep.
Eadlin smiled faintly, it all still seemed like a dream to her.
"Henry, are you awake?" She asked softly, and he hummed in response, "Hmm." He opened his eyes, revealing his deep blue alluring eyes. A soft smile played across his lips, "What is it?" He asked, but just as Eadlin was about to speak_
"My lord, you have a guest!" Came a servant’s voice from outside the closed door. Henry frowned in displeasure, and without looking towards the door, he said, "Tell who ever the guest is that the young lord is not around."
However, the voice that spoke next made Eadlin’s heart skipped a beat.
"Is that so, brother-in-law?
