Chapter 320: That’s all that matters
The journey to Eringdalle had been set for early this morning. And looking out the window with the position of the sun, Henry could tell it was almost noon.
Without another thought Henry swung off the blanket and got out of bed, he hurried out of the room, not caring about his appearance that looked somewhat disheveled at the moment.
A few servants gave him weird gazes as he came to hurry past them, but they still lowered their heads to pay their respects while internally wondering where he was going to in such a hurry.
Coming out of the gates of the mansion, Henry walked up to his horse, untying it from the sheds then he jumped into it, he rode forward then stopped before a group of men with Froylan and a few guards among them.
"Froylan, gather some men, head off to every exit point in the kingdom, tell them to send a message and seal off the exits, no one Is to be allowed to leave the borders of Findara for today, tell them it’s a military emergency, do you understand?"
"But my lord, if that is the case lady Eadlin’s journey to Eringdalle will be further delayed, and they might not arrive at Eringdalle in time for the wedding."
At Froylan’s words, Henry who was about to ride off his horse suddenly paused catching the important points in Froylan’s statement,
"What do you mean further delay, haven’t they left yet?"
"No my Lord, lady Eadlin is still in the mansion, there were some issues with the carriages, so they won’t leave yet until it’s fixed."
Henry let out a discreet breath in relief, "And where is Eadlin now?"
Froylan gave a look that seemed to say how could he possibly know about that, she was a lady, she could be anywhere she wanted, but nevertheless he still said, "Perhaps in her chambers or somewhere inside the mansion my lord."
Henry quickly got off his horse, handing the reins to Froylan, without a word he hurried back into the mansion.
Froylan quickly called after him, "My lord, should we still pass the message to seal the borders?" After all, he had just said there was an emergency.
"No, not anymore." Henry replied without turning back as he continued to walk away.
Froylan frowned cluelessly, but later shrugged, he couldn’t tell what was going through Henry’s mind anyway.
There were a line of maids outside Eadlin’s room all gathering a bunch of boxes that held Eadlin’s belongings for the journey, but Henry walked past them unhesitatingly heading right into the room.
"My lord..." Maya called after him inquisitively but he didn’t seem to hear her or rather didn’t pay her any attention as he pushed open the doors of her chamber and storming in.
Hearing someone come in, Eadlin who had been standing by the window quickly whirled around, her eyes widened slightly as she looked at him standing across from her some feet away by the door, neither of them saying anything for some time, but Eadlin was quick to break her gaze from him,
"It is impolite to barge into a lady’s room lord Henry." Eadlin said calmly, but before she knew it, Henry had closed the distance between them, he pulled her into his embrace as he seemed to breathe a deep sigh of relief.
"I thought you’d left." He said softly as he tightened his hold around her fragile body.
Eadlin, who was suddenly pulled into his arms was taken aback, her eyes widened slightly in astonishment, with how tight he held her, she could feel his pounding heart beat.
"Lord Henry, what do you think you’re doing? Let go of me." She tried to move away from his hold, but he held on to her tightly and was unwilling to let go. Could it be that he was still influenced by the alcohol for him to hug her again?
"I told you not to leave me, why are you still leaving?" He muttered softly against her hair. He thought she would change her mind after knowing he felt the same for her, but he had never thought she would still want to leave. He didn’t know what he would do if she left him alone, even he himself hadn’t realized the depth of his own feelings for her until the moment he thought he’d lose her for good. However, one thing was clear, he would never be the same again without her in his life.
"Lord Henry, you don’t know what you are talking about..."
Before Eadlin could complete her words, he cut her off, "I know everything I’m taking about, and I meant every single word I said to you last night."
Eadlin’s heart skipped a beat, she wanted to believe him, but deep down, she was reluctant to believe everything he said to her last night was true. It felt too good to be true, she had dreamt of moments when the man she loved would confess his feelings to her, but now that it was happening, she felt some unknown fear.
"Lord Henry, I_"
"Lady Eadlin, lord Derian has arrived with the carriage. It’s time for your departure!" Came Maya’s voice from outside the closed door.
Henry tightened his hold around Eadlin hearing that Derian was here to take her away. He knew if he let go and allowed her to leave with Derian, he would never see her again.
Eadlin tried to move away from him again, "Henry, let go."
Finally he let go, however he raised his hands and cupped her cheeks. He gazed into her brown teary eyes as he spoke, "Eadlin, please stay, don’t go with him, I won’t be able to live with myself if you leave me..." He uttered in a soft tone as he caressed her cheek with his thumb.
Eadlin closed her eyes as the tears slid down her cheeks, her heart soared at the sincerity she was hearing in his words, so it was all true, she did after all mean something to him, and he did mean all those words he said to her last night.
Eadlin’s heart filled with joy momentarily before suddenly plunging down again with another realization she would have wanted to stay so badly after hearing his confession, but then what was she going to say to lord Derian and his son? She had put the little boy’s hopes up by agreeing to be his mother and if she agreed to stay, she would break his heart and if she left, Henry would also be heart broken. She didn’t even know what to do anymore.
Seeing that she was hesitant, Henry spoke again, "You said you love me too, right?" He asked as he gazed at her steadily.
Eadlin gave a small nod of her head, he then smiled, "That’s all that matters." He used his fingers to wipe away the tears on her cheeks, before gently stroking her lips with his thumb. "That’s all that matters."
He slowly leaned in, her breath hitched nervously, and her heart picked up as she slowly closed her eyes as the warmth of his lips covered her own softly. The feeling of his lips sending an electrifying feeling that travelled straight to her heart. His lips were warm and soft as he gently moved them against hers, his hands went around her waist, tugging her closer to his body.
However, at that very moment,
"My lady, young lord Crispin is... Ha good lord!!" Came Maya’s voice that ended with what sounded like a shocked and frightened exclamation.
Eadlin quickly pushed back from Henry’s kiss, a bright red coloring her cheeks, however she was shocked to realize that beside Maya someone else had also walked into her room, and judging from Maya’s exclamation, they had witnessed her and Henry kissing.
And that person was the little boy Crispin. She could see as the eagerness that had been on his face slowly faded into disappointment as he looked from her to Henry.
This was exactly what she had been afraid of.
