Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 304: Second suitor

Chapter 304: Second suitor

In the Boxton mansion, the maids were seen rushing towards Eadlin’s room with buckets of hot water, some carrying baskets containing rose petals, with some skin treatment oils on a tray. It was an order given by the young lord of the mansion to get Eadlin ready to meet her second suitor of the week.

The first suitor who came three days ago had shown some liking towards Eadlin, and even agreed to marry her, however after seeing her slacked arm, he hurriedly gave an excuse to Henry and left the mansion saying he’d be back the next day, nevertheless, he never came back, and when Henry sent someone to the young man’s household, it was said that he had left the kingdom and wouldn’t be back to Findara anymore.

Eadlin, who currently sat on her bed reading a book as the maids rushed inside to prepare her beauty bath, placed the book on the nightstand. She sighed heavily as she stood up to follow them to the bathroom, she really didn’t know why Henry was doing this instead of just helping her get to the Bimmari mountains. She had already come to accept her fate, no man would want to be with her.

Eadlin now sat in the bathtub as the maids washed her hair and body. Even though she found a suitor who agreed to marry her, she knew she would never learn to fall in love with anybody again. She had always dreamt of finding her soulmate, and also having a love marriage not one due to politics or arranged marriages.

A bitter smile crossed her lips as she remembered the first time she set her eyes on Henry at her half brother’s wedding. He was like a rigid stone that wouldn’t budge no matter what, and she couldn’t deny the fact that she had liked him at first sight. But who would have thought that a day would come when he would be the one to get her married just to repay her?

"My lady, we are done. It’s time to dress you up." Maya’s voice snapped her out of her dazed state in the bathtub. She gave a small nod of her head and slowly stood up.

Eadlin was soon helped into a midnight blue dress, the dress was tight around the waist and up, but loose from the waist down. It’s sleeves were long and loose, with a slit on it’s sides. The dress had beautiful shiny star patterns on its circular skirt, making her look like a princess from a fairytale. Her black hair was tied up in a loose messy bun, with few strands falling on her face.

"Wow, my lady, you look beautiful! Lord Henry had personally gone to buy this dress for you, and it suits you so well!" Maya exclaimed while clapping her hands. And the rest of the maids also agreed with her and showered Eadlin with praises.

Eadlin stared indifferently at her reflection in the mirror, as she slowly ran her good hand on the dress. Henry had bought this dress for her? She mused. But how unfortunate that he had only gotten the dress for her to impress another man. Eadlin turned away from the mirror, and asked Maya,

"Is the guest here already?"

"Yes, my lady. He is in the parlour room with the young lord."

Eadlin gave a curt nod and made her way to the parlour room. When she got to the room, she was met with Henry who sat straight with his usual indifferent expression, while across him on the sofa was a fairly handsome young noble man, who seemed to be speaking to Henry, but only got a curt reply from the stony Henry.

The moment Eadlin stepped inside the parlour room, the pair turned towards her at the same time. Henry’s indifferent expression drastically changed to wonderment. His gaze travelled down her body and up again. She looked beautiful in the dress he had handpicked himself, it was as if it was made just for her. And he couldn’t help but stare at her longer than he should.

The same was for her suitor, he was awed by her beauty. He never knew the Boxtons had another beautiful daughter apart from the most talked about two young beautiful daughters of the Boxtons. Who would have thought he would be the lucky man to marry such a beautiful woman?

Eadlin bowed to her suitor, "Good day, my lord. I am Eadlin De..." She quickly paused when she realized she had almost introduce herself as a De Biville, the royal family name.

However, her suitor didn’t seem to notice her slip of tongue as he was still in awe of her beauty, he also introduced himself, "I am Kelvin Decron, the second son of the Decron household. It is an honor to meet such a beautiful young maiden. Please come sit." He motioned for her to come and sit beside him on the not too long sofa.

Henry’s stern expression flashed dangerously as Eadlin obediently made to take her seat beside the young man. If she sat there, they would be too close to each other because of the fact that the sofa was not so long enough to fully accommodate them both to leave enough space in between. He cleared his throat, "Eadlin, you shouldn’t sit there, it is improper to have close contact since you are still unmarried." Henry said matter of factly calling her by her name which he rarely did, but for the sake of putting up a show in front of the suitor.

Eadlin gave him a puzzled look, "Then where should I sit, brother Henry?" She purposely addressed him as brother since it seemed he only saw her and treated her just the way he did with his sisters, also she didn’t know what relationship he had told Kelvin they had, to be the one to marry her off. So to be safe, she called him brother instead.

Henry’s forehead creased deeply as he heard what she just called him. Brother? Why didn’t he like the sound of it from her?

He soon dismissed the thought, then shifted on his seat to make space for her beside him, he patted the space, "Come sit here beside me."

Eadlin frowned, wasn’t it the same with him? Was it proper if she sat beside him as well? She wanted to comment on that, but then thought she couldn’t let her suitor find out that he wasn’t her brother, so she quietly made her way over and sat beside him.

Kelvin smiled as he looked from Henry to Eadlin, "I must say, you have a good relationship with your brother. It’s good to see siblings get along."

Henry frowned again as the man mistook him to be Eadlin’s brother again. He hadn’t told Kevin about who Eadlin really was nor did he tell him that she was his sister. The talkative idiot had assumed it himself. He had been putting up with Kelvin’s bragging about his family’s wealth, and somehow deep down he wished Eadlin wouldn’t end up marrying this fool, who only seemed to depend on his father’s wealth.

Henry sat quietly as he listened to Kelvin telling Eadlin about how much money his family had, again with the family wealth. He mused.

"...my father owns three mansions in the south, and once we get married, we will move to one of them. My father had promised to give me some..."

Henry turned his head to the side to see Eadlin’s expression, but it was unreadable. However, he could tell from her stiff smile that she couldn’t stand Kelvin’s bragging as well.

Henry decided to go straight to the point to cut the young man’s crap, "Lord Kelvin, I can see you seem to like Eadlin."

Kelvin was quick to nod, "Yes, and if you don’t mind I’d like our wedding to take place as soon as possible. She’s such a lovely young lady, and_"

"Hold on." Henry held his hand up to stop him from rambling further, "I will do as you wish, lord Kelvin, but that is only if you are willing to accept Eadlin despite her disability."

Kelvin’s smile slowly began to fade hearing that, he glanced towards Eadlin. What disability? She looked just fine to him. He smiled again, "What disability could you be speaking of my lord?"

Eadlin rolled her sleeve up to show the young man her slacked arm. "This disability, my lord." She said as she used her left hand to raise her slacked arm up.

Kelvin was taken aback, "W_what happened to your arm?" He hadn’t for once noticed that arm as her sleeves were long.

"I had an accident, and it can’t be fixed. Are you still willing to marry me?" She questioned.

Kelvin showed a reluctant look, he then glanced at Henry, seeing Henry’s pointed look, he soon smiled again, however it was obvious that the smile wasn’t genuine this time, "...Yes." he said, but Eadlin could see right through the forced smile, he had agreed because he was afraid of offending Henry.

Eadlin smiled, then said, "Are you sure, My lord? Are you ready to face the public embarrassment after they learn that your wife is one armed? Are you ready to introduce your one armed wife to all your noble friends?" She pressed on while watching as his expression continued to shift, she was certain he would change his mind.

Kelvin quickly stood up from his seat as if he’d been scorched, he bowed to Henry, "My lord, I am sorry but I can not marry your sister. She will only ruin my clean image in society, I..."

"Eadlin is not my sister." Henry blurted out finally, he really couldn’t stand this idiotic man anymore. "And it’s fine, because even if you agree to marry her, I wouldn’t allow her marry someone who only relies on his family’s wealth, someone with a shallow mind as you. You should be ashamed of yourself, Kelvin instead of bragging about something you didn’t work for."

"You...!" Kelvin wanted to snap, but swallowed his words when he remembered Henry wasn’t just anybody, but the next major general.

"And keep this in mind, you didn’t reject Eadlin, because you don’t even deserve someone like her to begin with. Now get out." Henry remarked calmly, but internally he really felt the urge to punch some senses into Kelvin’s block head. Only a fool would reject to marry someone like Eadlin.

"Are you deaf or do you want me to show you the way out? I said get out!" Henry snapped when Kelvin stood shocked in disbelief, but hearing this, he didn’t wait any longer and turned to leave in a hurry.
