Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 291: Disaster

Chapter 291: Disaster

Hamon’s face contorted in rage, "How can my wife be dead? Answer me!"

The soldier flinched at Hamon’s outburst, he then quickly bowed his head down to the ground again, "... please forgive me, your majesty, I couldn’t help her from the fire."

The soldier had rushed all the way back to Findara after seeing the forest catching fire with Ara in it. Nobody could possibly survive such huge flames, and it was only right that the king knows about it before anybody else, thus he came here to report it. Not even waiting to see if she was alive or not.

Hamon’s heart dropped to the ground after hearing the soldier’s words, he stared unseeingly ahead with hollow looking eyes, "How should I believe you, where is her body? I will only believe you after seeing it for myself."

"Your majesty, there was no body to retrieve, it was burned to ashes...the flame was too huge."

Hamon’s heart began to pound wildly when he heard those words. It was like a drumbeat that reverberated through his whole body. Even his legs were ready to give away under him.

"...how could she be dead?" He mumbled to himself. He had personally gone to rescue her from Cornell, and also saw to it that his soldiers would bring her back safely, but now this?

Hamon did not want to believe his wife was no more. But...what if it was true? Does this mean... he would never see her again, nor be with her? How could she leave him.

Hamon stood frozen as a statue, as well as Henry who stood beside him. How was this possible? His sister was no more...

Silence fell in the area, only the sound of the fierce cold breeze was heard, and nobody dared to move an inch as the atmosphere began to turn heavy and overwhelmingly chilly from the energy radiating from the king.

"Ugh!" Hamon, who stood frozen suddenly clutched his chest and let out a groan of pain. The pain was so intense that he let out a loud earthshaking cry, "Ahhhhh!"

All the people around could feel their blood run cold as the breeze blew fiercely, rising a billowing dust from the earth. Hamon’s shirt slowly began to rip off as his muscles grew larger than normal. His long sharp claws pierced through his fingers, and sharp fangs creeped out of his lips. Purple veins started to appear on his forearms, it shot up and speared to his entire body, reaching up to his face.

It was the first time he ever transformed into his complete demon form. And whoever witnessed this, could tell Hamon did not look human.

Hamon’s bloodshot eyes, snapped towards the soldier who reported Ara’s death. The soldier began to visibly tremble, he prepared to run for his life when Hamon’s clawed hands went around his throat, "YOU INCOMPETEMT FOOLS, I WILL KILL YOU ALL!" With a fleet move, Hamon ripped off the soldiers head and tossed it away.

Henry’s eyes widened at Hamon’s sudden transformation, "Your-your majesty...!"

Hamon did not hear anything that was said to him. It wasn’t just his hearing that failed to process_his eyes were open, but he could not see, and his mind was numbly blank.

His wife left him alone in this lonely world. If he gets separated from Ara, then he’d be separated from himself, because he lived only for her. She was his life, his greatest pain and his only cure, his peace and endless turmoil, if he lost her, then the world’s existence would lose it’s meaning. Without Ara, he was nothing but an empty hollow shell. And without her, the world meant nothing to him as well. She died in a fire, not even her body was left.

It was an intolerable pain beyond endurance itself, and all he wanted to do was burn down every single person in the world along with himself.

A terrible cry tore from his throat, "Raaagh!" An inhumane scream roared from deep within his body.

Olivier, who had been standing shocked behind the parapet walls, quickly recovered and rushed down, he turned towards the frozen Henry and yelled at him, "Lord Henry, get away from him!"

"What?" Henry’s head jerked towards Olivier, and at the same time, Hamon ripped off the head of another soldier. The sheer ruthlessness of the display caused those in the vicinity to fall into terrified silence. There was a dramatic difference between the earlier Hamon and his current self.

Even the air around him seemed to sink with the dark aura he was emanating. Hamon snarled, and his eyes hardened as he stared down at his next potential victims.

It was terrifying, even Henry was shocked to the point of not being able to move away, until Olivier ran towards him and grabbed his hand to drag him away from Hamon’s reach,

"You will die if you stay near him, we have to get away from him as much as possible!"

"What the hell was that? How did he change into that thing...?" Henry had heard rumors about Hamon being a monster, but not once had he witnessed his transformation, and he had believed that people were only exaggerating the rumors, but now he witnessed this...

Olivier replied to Henry, "I will explain it to you later, but now we have to get all the soldiers away from him, or else_"

Olivier’s warning came too late as Hamon had already began to move in a speed of the light, using his clawed hands to rip off the soldiers head one after the other. Not a single person could stand in front of Hamon and live.

The soldiers began to flee for their lives. Hamon’s fierce red eyes had already lost their reasons, and when he saw the soldiers running away, a bolt of fire appeared in his right hand, before he shot it towards the group of soldiers running. Instantly, their bodies caught fire. They ran around screaming in agony as they burned.

Hamon’s red eyes fell on another soldier who was trembling in a corner. The soldier was one of Olivier’s close partners, and when Olivier saw Hamon approaching the young man, he yelled, "leave that place, Disperse!"

However, it was too late, in the blink of an eye Hamon was in front of him, "Aaaah! H-help me...! Hamon’s clawed hand ran straight through the soldier’s torso. He wrenched out his hand again, and the solider’s body tumbled to the ground lifeless.

Hamon closed his eyes as he licked the blood off his hand, it was as if he was enjoying himself. Earlier he was a monarch victorious after battle and calmly waiting for his wife, however in this moment, after hearing of his wife’s death, he had morphed into a demon from the depths of hell itself, bathing in the blood of every person around him that moved.

Olivier stood frozen as he saw the lifeless body of his friend from afar on the ground. Hamon had only gone on a rampant killing like this when Ara was struck by poisonous arrows.

"He has gone mad with bloodlust again. But even worse this time, we will all die if someone does not stop him..." Olivier murmured, and Henry who stood beside him heard him, he then asked, "How are we going to stop him then?"

Hamon’s monstrous mutation was easily visible from a distance, from Olivier’s experience, the greater the transformation, the stronger the powers. And this very moment was the greatest power he had ever witnessed.

"...no one can stop him, we have to get everyone away now!" Olivier said to Henry, before he turned to the rest of the soldiers in the vicinity, "Get away from the king! Get away!"

At Oliver’s cry, he only drew Hamon’s attention to their direction. Olivier swallowed hard as he met Hamon’s murderous eyes that slid to their direction. Hamon growled and charged towards them. It did not matter to him weather they were close to him or not, he was driven by a mad obsession to kill anyone who lives.

But at that moment...

"Hamon! Stop it!"

Somewhere, a clear voice rang in the air. It was a voice that Hamon knew so well, a voice that his heart pined for. He could cry just from hearing the sound. However, his charge towards Henry and Oliver did not stop despite the voice that called his name.

His wife was dead, they took her away from him, and he was going to take their lives as well. His only desire was to kill everyone.

Even if he killed all the soldiers in the borders, his anger would not be satiated. No, even if he burned the whole world, the chasm in his heart would never be filled. He would never be able to wake up from his anger and despair. His blood pumped hotly in his veins, and if he did not do anything right now, his whole body would burn down as well.

The violent emotions had awakened the demon in him, the demon that could destroy him as well if he did not control it.

Olivier and Henry stood stunned not making any attempt to run as Hamon charged towards them. But Olivier’s eyes widened in surprise as he glanced ahead of Hamon, "Please don’t come near him, you_Ah." before he could finish warning the person, Hamon’s clawed hand had went around his neck.

Olivier struggled to lose free, but Hamon raised his other hand ready to rip off his neck, when_

A small, warm body hugged him from behind. Hamon quickly released Olivier, and his instinct told him to immediately kill the person who dared to hold him, but a familiar scent whiffed to his nostril making him stop dead in his tracks.

"Please, Hamon stop. I am here, that’s enough."

Hamon slowly turned around, the first thing he saw were long red locks fluttering in the wind, then fair skin, crimson lips, a straight small nose, and thick lashes. Beneath them were emerald green eyes that looked up at him. He thought he would never see her again.

It was his wife, Arabella.

For the first time after his transformation, recognizion flicked behind Hamon’s rage filled eyes.

"...A..rabella?" He breathed her name.

Ara nodded, "Yes, it’s me, Hamon. Your wife, I am back." Her eyes filled with tears as she wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed herself more firmly against his body.

Hamon’s body stiffened, he was completely stunned. That solider had clearly told him that Ara was dead in the fire. Was this an illusion? A dream?

His head swirled in confusion. But soon he thought, what did it matter? Ara could be a ghost or a fantasy, but he was content that she was in front of him now. Perhaps, now that her ghost was here, he’d leave with her to wherever she came from. He would die to go with her.

Hamon finally raised his hand and hugged Ara’s body so tightly that there was not a gap between them. He buried his head between her neck and shoulder as he breathed in her scent.

"...why did you return to me so late?" He mumbled in her neck. He was hell-bent on destroying the world that had taken Ara from him. He wanted to bring ruin to everything and eventually himself. It was suffering enough when he had returned without her, for all these days that had passed, he hadn’t been able to sleep, eat, or even sit down. Lifeblood drained from him with every second of her absence.

Hamon held her fragile body with all his might, "I don’t care what you are now, a ghost or a fantasy. Don’t ever let go of me, don’t leave my side again."

"I won’t..." Ara trailed off as tears rolled down her eyes. Her throat thightened with emotions. She then pushed away from the hug to look at his face, which had started to return to normal. She raised her hand and touched his face with a faint smile, "I missed you so much."

Hamon’s brows furrowed at her long awaited appearance, she was real and not a fantasy. He once again locked her body in his arms, "...me too, my wife. I would have died from missing you, I missed you so much, my love."

His long claws and purple skin began to recede from his body, leaving behind his unblemished pale skin.

Olivier, who had been thrown to the ground lay still as he sighed in relief, "...that was a close one." He murmured as he tried to push himself up, but ended up falling back to the ground as his legs went jelly soft.

Meanwhile, Henry also sighed in relief, then lowed the sword he was pointing at Hamon. He had thought that Hamon would not recognize Ara in the midst of his bloodlust. Thus, he had quickly pulled out his sword to protect his sister.

Henry returned his sword then stretched out his hand to help Olivier up from the ground. Olivier took his hand and stood up while rubbing his sore neck with his other hand, "Thank you." He thanked Henry, who gave him a curt nod of his head.

Olivier glanced towards the couple. This was a miracle, it was impossible to stop Hamon’s madness, but this was the first time that his rage had evaporated so quickly.

Once again, Olivier realized how precious Ara was to Hamon. He couldn’t help but smile at the pair as they stayed glued together not minding all the people around.

Today might have been a worst day. But it changed into the most triumphant moment.
