Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 285: Change of plans
Chapter 285: Change of plans
Hamon soon prepared to leave for the battlefield, although he had rescued his wife from the hands of her captives, he still felt reluctant leaving her behind to travel with the soldiers. If it was up to him, he did not want to part ways with her again, especially now that she was pregnant and constantly having morning sickness. Not to mention traveling in her condition was not good for her.
However, Hamon had no choice in a situation where his wife had been worried sick about her father after hearing about him being struck with an arrow. Not to mention Henry being the only one leading the frontline.
Hamon glanced down at Ara, who was seriously helping him wear his armour suit, her lips tightly pressed in a thin line, eyes focused on tying his armour strings. She had been quiet after hearing about her father, and hadn’t even spoken to him the whole time she was helping him prepare.
Hamon cleared his throat to gain her attention, yet she did not glance up at him and continued to focus on tying the strings. He then raised his hands and cupped her face in both his palms, he made her look at him, "What is wrong, my love?" He questioned coaxingly.
Ara did not speak for a moment and stared at him before saying, "I don’t know...I just want all this to end, and with that monster in the picture, our lives will never be peaceful. With Cornell alive, I won’t be at peace knowing that my children’s lives will also be threatened once they step into this world..." And once am gone. She added in her mind. She then said again, "I also don’t know what condition my father is in at the moment, everything is just overwhelming and tiring and I just want everything to end soon..."
Ara felt her throat tighten with emotions. Although her father had been strict with her ever since her childhood, and she used to think he loved her less compared to her other siblings. But she had come to realize that it was just Richard, a stubborn and blunt father who expressed his affections in his own way. And after hearing about the news of him being struck with an arrow, all she wanted to do was run to him and stay by his side...
Tears glimmered in her green eyes, and she tried to blink it away, but it rolled down her cheeks.
"Oh, my wife, come here." He pulled her into his arms, and she wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her head on his chest, he then said in a soft tone, "Everything will be over soon, I promise. And you shouldn’t worry about father-in-law, the moment I arrive at Findara, i will check on him immediately and send you the report through the messenger pigeon. Now please don’t cry." He gently pushed her shoulders back to wipe away the tears in her eyes with his hand.
Ara gazed at her husband with her eyes a bit red. Hamon had always been good to her right from the first time they met in their previous life, and now it hurt her to know that she would have to leave this wonderful man behind someday. If only the heavens could have mercy on her and let her be with him until the end of time...
More tears began to roll down her eyes again. She sobbed heartbreakingly, her tears of sadness falling like a spring rain, she then quickly turned her back to Hamon, shoulders trembling with the force of her emotions.
Hamon gently held her trembling shoulders and carefully turned her to face him, he narrowed his eyes at her in concern, "My wife, if anything else is bothering you, you can share it with me. But if you continue to cry...I will feel the urge to hurt someone. Now tell me, What is bothering you?" He asked softly, but Ara shook her head, with her voice trembling from the crying she said, "N-nothing...I-I think my pregnancy is making me more sensitive."
Hamon did not suspect she was hiding anything from him and nodded in understanding, "That explains it, babies are making mama emotional, Hmm?" He said playfully as he placed his hand on her small bump, "Don’t give my darling wife a hard time, or I’ll really get mad at you two. Be good." He said seriously, and Ara could not help but laugh with tear stained cheeks.
"Oh, my wife is finally laughing!" Hamon chuckled, he did not like seeing her in tears, at first he’d thought she was hiding something from him, but then he must have over thought the expression he noticed on her face earlier.
Hamon slowly cupped her face, then leaned down, "Don’t cry anymore, my wife." He whispered softly, his breath falling on her lips, before he pressed his mouth on hers. His kiss was slow and sensual. His large hand went behind her neck as his lips moved skilfully against hers, he parted her mouth with his tongue and moved it inside, she responded to his kiss with the same slow rhythm.
Ara could not help the heaviness in her heart as they kissed. She would cherish all these moments with him from now on. However, right now he had to leave soon. With that, she reluctantly pulled away from the kiss first, "Hamon, you have to go now. Findara needs you, and also my brother on the battlefield..."
Ara turned around and took his helmet from the nightstand. All the while, Hamon silently watched her. She stood on the tip of her toes, ignoring the the small sting on her wounded ankle and placed the helmet on his head. She fixed the sword on his waist, "All set." She smiled.
"I guess it’s time to leave." He said regretfully, then added, "You shouldn’t take off today, but tomorrow. I will send you the message when I get to Findara in some minutes, and also take good care of yourself on the journey. You should make stops at the inns, there will be more than a hundred soldiers traveling with you, and also Merek. You can tell him if you need anything. Hmm?" He tucked back the strands of hair falling on her face.
Ara nodded her head obediently, "Understood."
He then said again, "Don’t forget the medicines I gave you this morning, you should take it after every meal in your journey, it will help with your morning sickness." He really did not like the idea of leaving her to travel without him, but then he knew nothing could go wrong since that bastard Cornell would also be at the battlefield at the moment.
Ara nodded again, "You shouldn’t worry, I will take my medicines in time. You may leave now."
Hamon also nodded his head then took three steps away from her, before he disappeared from the room in the blink of an eye. Ara dazedly stared at the spot he stood at earlier with a heavy heart. She just hoped they’d win this battle, because in her previous life, Cornell had succeeded in his rebellion against Findara.
"Be safe..."
The rest of the day, Ara prepared herself for their journey tomorrow. The next day in the morning, the messenger pigeon arrived, and she quickly untied the note on it’s leg.
The note read, [General Richard is safe, and he’s under treatment at the moment. The battle is tougher than I expected, but I will handle it before you arrive in four days.]
Ara sighed in relief after hearing her father was safe. She had now regained some of her strength and was capable of traveling back to Findara. Many people than she expected risked their lives to rescue her, and also to protect their kingdom. She just hoped that Hamon and the rest would be unharmed as much as possible.
Merek soon stepped inside to inform her, "Your majesty, the carriage and soldiers are ready."
--
For two days Merek and his troops traveled non stop, and Ara had not gotten off the carriage even once. Merek, who was riding next to her window on his horse turned to ask,
"Your majesty, aren’t you tired? Should we make a stop?"
Ara turned towards the window, "No, I am fine, we can’t slow down the journey because of me."
Ara hadn’t been able to sleep well, and any simple meal she ate was inside the carriage. Merek stared at her in worry, she had already suffered through difficulties in the dungeon Lord Cornell kept her in, and he had heard about her pregnancy before the mission. Moreover, he also promised Hamon to look after her through out the journey, but then, he wasn’t in the place to insist that they make a stop. Thus, he simply said,
"We will soon reach Findara, endure it a little longer, your majesty."
Ara replied with a faint smile, "Thank you, Merek, for everything." Although, she had been mad at the young man for quite sometime now for breaking Anne’s heart, but now, it had all faded away seeing how much he had been helping her. Maybe, they were never meant to be together in the first place. Nobody can force love on someone anyway. She mused.
Merek was taken aback at her words of gratitude, but quickly recovered, "it’s nothing, your majesty, it’s my duty..."
"I know, I just felt the need to thank you for your hard work, and for the help you’ve given me all those days at the Boxton mansion."
"...I_" Merek was going to say something, but he got interrupted by a man who approached him from behind on his horse. The man was dressed in a complete black attire with a mask covering his lower face. Ara could tell he wasn’t part of the procession earlier.
"Sire Merek, I have something urgent to report to you." The man said, with his voice sounding muffled under the mask.
"Let’s move back to talk." Merek said in a low voice.
"Understood."
The two slowed down their horses pace and fell behind the procession, however, Ara’s carriage wasn’t far from where they stood, she narrowed her eyes curiously at the pair and tried to listen on what the man came to report.
"Lord Cornell and his forces were supposed to head this way, but he changed his road when he received the news that his majesty is leading the war now."
"What do you mean?" Merek asked.
"I mean, he is heading back to Bredon to lead their reinforcement to Findara. His procession to the border was false, but in truth, he would seek more army from Bredon. We have to alert his majesty."
Ara’s forehead creased deeply at the news. Her fist clenched tightly without even realizing it. This man would never rest until he destroyed their kingdom! Hamon and Cornell’s forces had already clashed together, and now Cornell’s last minute attempts to gain Bredon’s support meant that Hamon was taking over his men. If his plans were to be successful, Hamon’s advantage could quickly evaporate.
’I have to stop Cornell myself!’
Merek was going to report the information to Hamon, but Cornell would have already been in Bredon by the time Hamon takes action, it would be too late by then. And with Bredon’s army together with Dumbarton...Findara would be down in no time.
All this time she had been fearing to come to face Cornell again, but now she would face him to protect her family and all other citizens of Findara. She had to think of a way to protect her loved ones, to help her husband and brother who were fighting for their kingdom at the battlefield.
’I will run no more from you, Cornell. It’s either you die or I die!’ Ara’s green eyes set in determination.
