Chapter 268: Meet him in Bredon
Chapter 268: Meet him in Bredon
Two weeks and three days passed by quickly. And Ara’s morning sickness was getting even worst, even her mood swings were getting worst, but there were no significant changes in her appearance yet. However, she’d already begun to notice a tiny bump below her abdomen, which wasn’t noticeable to ones eyes unless she was wearing her silk nightdress.
Nevertheless, ever since she had found out about the curse of the stone of Helga, and that she might die in a year, she hadn’t been able to rest well, and Emma had always been staying by her side to keep her company and also to practice her witch magic spells, which Ara had found fascinating everytime she witnessed Emma’s eyes change color and she moved things with her thoughts.
Ara had come to accept the fact that, if Emma by any chance failed to destroy the stone before a year, she would rather die with the stone than let everything go in vain and let her family die again. And for the past few days, she had made sure to not let the thought bother her anymore, and instead focused on taking care of herself because of her pregnancy. She had her medicines on time and also occasionally tried to stroll around the palace, She also made sure to have her meals on time.
Furthermore, her appetite had grown even larger, she found herself feeling hungry every now and then. And presently, Ara sat with Emma on the couch in her chamber while she munched on some beefsteak.
"My lady, are you alright?" Emma asked as she noticed Ara stopped eating and stared dazedly at the plate of food.
Ara shook her head slowly, "...no, it’s been more than two weeks now and his majesty isn’t back yet..." She murmured. Hamon had said he’d only take two weeks, however it had been more than two weeks now and there was not even a single letter from him. She had been trying to keep calm, but her inner thoughts were not calm at all.
She wanted to meet her husband as soon as possible, she wanted to live each day with him, and also tell him about her pregnancy to see his reaction. She couldn’t wait to share this with him and also feel the embrace of his strong arms again.
"My lady, you shouldn’t worry, maybe they are on their way back to Findara." Emma assured, however she was also worried since there hadn’t been any letters from them, but she tried not to show it to avoid making Ara worry even more.
Ara gave a small nod, then stretched out her hand to Emma, "You said you can tell someone’s future by holding them, here, can you check mine for me?" She asked. She wanted to know if she’d live longer.
Emma nodded, then took Ara’s outstretched hand in hers. She held Ara’s hand for some minutes, before lines formed on Emma’s forehead, "...my lady, I can’t tell yours, it’s blank." she said.
"Does that mean I have no future?" Ara asked cautiously.
"I am not sure..." She muttered softly, then added, "But don’t worry, my lady, I will try my best to destroy the stone before a year." Emma knew destroying something made with black magic wouldn’t be easy, and to do so, one had to tap into the black powers, but she was willing to do anything to save Ara’s life, even if it meant using the forbidden art of black magic.
"..." Ara did not say anything anymore and only continued to stare at the empty plate in her hand.
"My lady, worrying too much isn’t good for your unborn child...If you are still worried about the stone, I will_"
"I am not worried about the stone, I just want to see my husband come back safely." The moment she spoke, tears glimmered in her green eyes, and slowly rolled down her cheeks again, for the third time today, she was crying. It had been happening often, she had no control over her emotions, sometimes she felt angry for no reason and then she’d cry afterwards.
"...I don’t know what is wrong with my emotions, Emma. But If I stay here for another day without hearing from my husband, I might go crazy...I think it would be best I traveled to Bredon to go and see for myself what is keeping him there." Ara said while she wiped away the tears from her cheeks.
"My lady, but you can’t travel in your condition right now, it wouldn’t be good for the baby."
Ara stood up from her seat, "I am stronger then you think, Emma. Nothing will happen to my baby, besides I won’t be able to rest if I stay here and do nothing."
"But what if you leave and his majesty is already on his way back to Findara?" Emma tried to reason with her. But Ara said seriously, "Well then, we will meet half way. There is only one way to Bredon, and if Hamon is on his way back, then I’d rather go and meet him half way than stay here all day worrying."
Emma sighed in defeat. Keeping Ara here would only cause her more worry, perhaps it would be best to just let her go, it might even help clear her mind, "Alright, my lady. I will go with you_"
"There’s no need, you should stay back and continue to practice your spells, I will take my handmaid with me instead."
Emma wanted to insist, but then realized she had a lot to work in order to master her powers fully to destroy the stone. Thus, she nodded, "Alright..."
Ara beamed, she could no longer wait and was too eager to meet Hamon. Before he left she had already told him she’d come and find him in Bredon if he stayed more than two weeks. And so, she couldn’t tolerate the wait anymore.
"I can tell you really miss his majesty so much. I noticed you even slept last night hugging his clothes, how sweet."
Emma seemed to be lightly teasing her, but Ara could not refute her. Ara had missed Hamon’s scent so much, that she couldn’t sleep last night until she took out his shirt and hugged it to sleep, and it soothingly calmed her mind.
Ara blushed as Emma wiggled her brows playfully seeing the bright expression on her face at the thought that she could go meet her husband, "Emma!" She exclaimed and glanced away.
Emma burst into laughter at Ara’s reddened face.
"Stop teasing me! I know you must also miss Oliver, don’t you, hmm? If you tease me again, I’ll make sure to give Oliver loads of work when he returns." Ara wiggled her eyebrows back, and Emma’s eyes widened, "lady Ara, you wouldn’t do that to him."
"Oh trust me, I will!" Ara giggled.
Emma hurriedly stood up, "I won’t tease you anymore, I promise. Let me go and arrange your things." She said as she made to the dressing room, "It is already fall season my lady, and the cold wouldn’t be good for your baby, you need to keep yourself warm through the journey. And also..."
Emma continued to give her lectures from the dressing room, And Ara couldn’t help but smile. It was ironic to think that Emma was related to Hamon, this means she was actually his cousin. Who would have thought?
Not long, Emma saw Ara off to the carriage, and the carriage set off with dozens of soldiers trailing behind on their horses.
