Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 246: Do as you please

Chapter 246: Do as you please

"What?" Hamon and Ara uttered at the same time. Ara’s heart felt heavy at the news of the king’s death. This wasn’t good at all.

Hamon’s voice was low as he asked, "What did they say was the cause of his death?"

"Heart disease. I believe that was the result of the royal physician. But of course, you’ll have to confirm the result yourself later on. Something doesn’t seems right about his majesty’s sudden death."

Hamon’s mind wandered back to the night of their attack. He recalled that Damien had told him that Merona had gone to talk to his father about Cassius, and then his father had sent him a letter, which he doubts was written by the king. If his father was the one to write the letter, he would have been at the meeting place, but he didn’t show up, which meant Merona had done something to him that night.

She had used his father’s name to lure him out of his residence to have him trapped in a laid out ambush she’d planned!

Caleb continued, "That’s not all, your highness, after his majesty’s death, the second Prince’s succession has been restored."

Hamon’s expression darkened immediately, "Who dared restore his succession after the king had given his final words in the court?"

"Well, your highness, there was a will written by his majesty requesting to restore the second Prince’s right to the throne."

Hamon let out a snort. He no longer doubted his guess now. After hearing this much, he was now sure who was behind everything. Merona! She had written the letter that night after the king’s death. But it was still unclear if she was the one to kill the king or if he really died of heart disease.

The official investigators concluded that the king had died of heart disease, but then Merona had dared sent assassins after him yet again. There was no doubt she was the one who killed the king to get what she wanted.

Hamon’s red eyes flamed dangerously, rage was all he felt at the moment. Although, he didn’t speak, but the atmosphere in the room turned heavy from the deathly chill emanating from him.

Ara, who was seated next to Hamon felt the chill of his anger in her bones. She then placed her right hand on his tightly clenched fist on his lap, then spoke to Caleb, "What about the crown Prince’s residence, do you have any idea what’s going on in there after the king’s death?"

"Yes, your highness. The last time I went to deliver goods to the palace, I heard that the queen’s men have completely blocked all the premises. The soldiers blocked any access to the residence, no one is allowed in or out of the building."

"That woman is really testing my patience." Hamon muttered through clenched teeth. It was clear what the hag was trying to do, she blocked his residence to prevent information from going in. Many of his soldiers wouldn’t even know he was missing nor know about the changes and the king’s death.

Hamon’s lips pressed into thin line, angry veins bulging on his forehead. He clenched up his fist tightly, his nails digging into his palms drawing blood.

Despite Ara’s comforting hand on Hamon’s, she felt he was losing it, she then said, "The situation is worse than I’ve expected..."

With an indifferent look, Hamon said, "I agree...majority of my soldiers are in my residence while the rest are in the border camp, I can’t bring them back here while they’re doing their duty to protect the kingdom. We are at the disadvantage now."

Hamon looked towards Caleb, "Is there anything else I should know about?" He asked in a low voice as if trying to masks his rage.

"No, your highness, that’s all I know about."

Hamon gave a nod of his head, then said again, "Caleb, can you excuse us for awhile?"

"Yes, of course, your highness. I’ll be outside if you need anything." Caleb stood up then bowed before leaving the couple alone in the room.

The room went silence after Caleb left. Hamon looked as calm as a still pond on the outside, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t flaming inwardly or sad about his father’s death. Ara could see his cold red eyes blazing, even his forehead had started showing purple veins. She could only guess what he was feeling about the king’s death. Without a word, he suddenly lay down on the floor and rested his head on her lap.

"Are you alright?" She asked worriedly as she placed a hand on his bulging purple veins.

Hamon gave a curt nod, "...Yes. I just need some time to calm my emotions. I’ll be fine." Saying that, he closed his eyes.

Ara could tell he wasn’t fine as the anger radiating from him did not cease, but she did not speak and only stroked his hair silently. He needed time to calm his emotions indeed.

Ara’s mind was a whirlwind of thoughts as she sat down quietly. Although, Frederick had died in their past live, but it wasn’t this soon, it had happened earlier in this lifetime. It was supposed to be few more months from now. Her heart felt heavy for not having been able to prevent his death as well. Hamon must be feeling even worse than she was now. But then it was inevitable as the sickness had already gotten worse even after returning to the past.

The memory of Frederick looking affectionately at her like a father caused a lump to form in her throat. But then, her husband must be feeling more grief than she was as the king was his father, however he was concealing his grief with his anger at the moment. Hamon just lay as still as a rock on the floor, his both hands resting on his stomach, his expression looked too composed.

With his eyes still closed, he spoke with an indifferent voice, "We have to prepare for the worst now, everything can go wrong now that the queen has tempered with the king’s will."

Ara nodded even though his indifferent voice and expression didn’t sit well with her, she would have preferred he let his grief out than conceal it with anger, but then she decided not to comment on that and said instead, "I’ll write to my brother informing him about our situation. We should start to gather our troops as well."

Hamon just simply replied, "Good, you should do that, we will need you father’s soldiers as well. Tell him about it in the letter."

Seeing that they would need more army, Ara hesitated for awhile before saying, "...Alexander had given me his signet the last time we met, and he said I can command his army anytime I needed them...I think this might be the right time to put it to use."

Hamon’s closed eyes flew opened, his red eyes blazed like flame, they looked like that of a beast, "Alexander’s signet? When did you speak to him?" He asked displeased at the fact that his wife had met with his battle rival behind his back without caring to talk to him about it. And she even took his signet? Even though they were in need of an army, Alexander was the last person Hamon wanted to seek help from.

Ara could sense his displeasure, this wasn’t the time for pride when Merona was taking control of the kingdom, she tried to reassure him, "I didn’t tell you because I didn’t think we might need it, but now_"

Hamon abruptly raised his head from her lap and sat up, "And you never cared to tell me about your meeting with him? Ara you know how I dislike it when you hide things from me. Alexander is my rival on the battlefield, and you took his signet_"

"Yes, I took the signet for your sake Hamon. And this is the main reason I didn’t tell you about him because I know you’d let your pride control you. We have to contact him immediately, you have to put you differences aside for now."

Hamon stood to his feet with an indifferent expression again. Without looking at his wife, he said, "Do as you please, if you think contacting him is the best, then do it. Write the letter to the Boxton mansion, I’ll ask Caleb to deliver it to them. I need to go somewhere, I’ll be back later." He said then made to the door, but then stopped, "We will be staying in town for some time."

After saying that, Hamon walked out of the room not giving Ara a chance to explain further. She slammed her fist on the tea table, "He is being unreasonable now that we need all the help we can get." She muttered slightly angry at him. Well, Alexander’s army would help them a lot, and she was going to do what she thought to be right by contacting them.

But first she needed to tell her father and brother about their situation. Hamon would surely calm down later, he was just being overwhelmed by everything. She mused.
