Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 245: WHAT?!
Chapter 245: WHAT?!
Days later, Hamon and Ara decided to leave the cabin. Living in a place like the cabin was humble compared to their life in the palace. Furthermore, their days in the cabin had been memorable and quite fun.
Ara sat on the edge of the bed after wearing the slightly worn out dress Hamon had brought for her to wear before they leave. She couldn’t help but feel sad about leaving. They’d had happy memories in the past few days. They had gone hunting together in the forest after making arrows with tree branches. They’d also cooked the meat together after the hunt and also gone swimming in the river to wash off the dirt.
Every night she and Hamon would cuddle each other on the small bed, and talk about various topics before eventually falling asleep. They had done a lot of memorable things in the past few days staying here, if it weren’t for the urgency of their situation, they might have even lived here longer.
However, their duties called to them. They can’t stay here while things might be going wrong in the palace. Although, she did not know the exact status at the palace, but she had a feeling things weren’t well. And Hamon had suggested they go to town to find information before they returned to the palace.
Ara glanced around the small cabin, she ran her hands on the surface of the hard bed. She’d really miss this place once they leave. She stood up and folded the blanket on the bed, just then Hamon stepped inside, "Are you ready?"
Ara placed the blanket on one side of the bed, then turned towards Hamon, "Yes..."
They were both wearing the humble clothes of normal commoners, which Hamon had brought. But Ara thought, despite the faded colour, it did not dampen Hamon’s handsomeness and charisma.
"Shall we?" Hamon stretched out his hand for her to take. Ara gave the small room one last regretful look before taking his hand and they headed outside. It was where she had her first time with Hamon. The memory would not be easily forgotten, she would forever cherish it for life.
Ara’s heart felt heavy the further they walked away from the cabin.
Hamon, sensing his wife’s mood, spoke softly, "You don’t want to go back?"
"For some reasons I think I will miss this place...I wonder who owns the cabin. How i wish it was ours so we can come here again someday..." She muttered.
Hamon chuckled at her words, "Well, if that’s the case, you have nothing to worry about then."
"What do you mean?" She asked slightly bemused.
Hamon explained, "I mean this cabin belongs to me, I built it myself when I was about sixteen years old. But I had some helping hands though."
Ara was taken aback, she blinked in surprised, then glanced towards the cabin then back at Hamon again, "Really? You built it yourself?"
Hamon simply gave a nod, "Of course. How did you think I have access to it?"
Ara was amused, she had never expected Hamon to be the owner of the cabin. Furthermore, he built it himself years ago. He was such a talented man. Even though he wasn’t born a royalty, with such talents, Ara was sure her husband would have been great in other businesses and works.
"Wow...But how did you build it at such a young age?" She asked in curiosity.
Hamon laughed softly at her curiosity, he then replied as they continued to walk hand in hand through the forest grounds, "What do you think? I am the crown Prince, it was easy building the cabin because I had all the help I needed then." He said, then added, "And after I take the throne, I plan to build a small mansion here, so we can make it our vocation home in the future. Do you like the idea of having another home here?" He asked for her opinion.
Ara’s eyes brightened up,"I like the idea!" She exclaimed enthusiastically, but remembered something, "Hamon, your coronation day is supposed to be in two days..." She trailed off. The scene where Frederick declared Hamon to be crowned king flashed back to her mind. What could be happening in the palace now? She wondered if the king had sent men in search of them as the coronation day was approaching.
"There is no need to worry, my wife, the throne is already mine. Nobody can take it away from me unless am dead, and I have no plans of giving it up to anyone. The coronation day can be postponed."
"Right now, we can’t return to the palace immediately. We have to go to the place I told you about to find information." He said.
Ara nodded. Yes, there was nothing to worry about, Fredrick had already named Hamon as his successor. However, even though he becomes king, they still had enemies to clear from their lives. And she would fight side by side with him in this journey.
After a long walk, they soon walked into the town of Findara in disguise as normal commoners. They couldn’t risk it, after falling down that cliff, the culprit behind their ambush must have sent men to look for their dead bodies, and not finding it would only mean there would be men out searching for any signs of them now, dead or alive.
Ara had used a veil to cover her red hair, while Hamon also had a scarf tied on his head to hide his sliver hair as well.
Hamon had told her that they were going to go to an old acquaintance of his in town to find out about the happenings in the palace. They needed information on the current situation, and going to any of the officials may alert their attackers of their where about. Hamon’s wound wasn’t healing fast enough for him to fight against another set of assassins again if any such thing were to happen, they couldn’t afford another unexpected ambush at the moment.
Moreover, if they were to return to the palace, they needed a ride as it was a far distance from this town. Hamon’s old acquaintances, Caleb, lived not too far from the forest. And Caleb was one of the workers who delivered goods to the palace twice a week. He was also one of those who helped him build the cabin years ago.
Hamon took Ara to Caleb’s house. It was a small and humble home of any normally commoners of Findara. And they were warmly welcomed by Caleb’s wife. The woman was nice enough to serve them tea and some snacks.
"Caleb has gone out for some business, but he would be back soon, before then please have some tea and snacks." The woman had told them before leaving them in the room to go and continue her laundry outside.
Ara looked around the room in wonderment, there were no furnitures, and they were both currently sitting on the floor with a tea table in front of them containing the snacks and tea.
"Are you sure we can get the information from Celeb?" She asked.
"Yes, he has a lot of connections around Findara, so I am sure he will be of help to us."
As Ara and Hamon continued to discuss, there was a light knock on the door, and a man walked in, who Ara assumed to be Caleb. He was heaving for breath, and it was obvious he’d ran all the way here.
Celeb bowed to the waist, "Hail your_"
Hamon held up his hand to stop him, "I am trying to keep a low profile, Caleb, so skip the royal greetings."
Caleb nodded in understanding, then said, "I was surprised to hear you’re at my house, it’s been so long, your highness." His gaze shifted to Ara, who sat next to Hamon.
Noticing his gaze, Hamon introduced, "This is my wife, Arabella."
Celeb quickly bowed again, "Good day, your highness."
Ara offered him a nod of acknowledgement, "Good day to you too, Caleb, It’s nice to meet you."
"I am honored to finally meet the crown princess in person today, I’ve heard so much about your beauty, but seeing you_"
"Cut the crap, Caleb, don’t sweet talk my wife into liking you. Put your ass down, we have to talk." Hamon remarked nonchalantly as he drank from the tea they were served. Years ago, Caleb had also sweet talked Hamon into liking him, and since then, they’d had a close relationship that was more than a servant and his master.
Caleb laughed awkwardly, then sat opposite Ara and Hamon on the floor. He then said, "How come you are in town, your highness? News has spread of your disappearance weeks ago. Rumors even had it that you’ve fled from Findara as you don’t want to be king."
The couple were taken aback at Caleb’s words. Hamon’s expression turned serious, he then explained everything to Celeb, from their attack to this moment now.
After listening to Hamon’s story, Caleb nodded in understanding, "So that was what happened."
"Yes. We came to you because we wanted to find out about the state affairs of the palace. What is the situation there at the moment?" Hamon asked.
Caleb’s expression turned grave, "The situation in the palace is not really good at the moment..."
Hamon was now sitting as still as a statue hearing this, and Caleb continued, "The day after the court case, it was officially announced that king Frederick had passed away."
"What?"
