As all the changes were going on in the kingdom, in the east wing of the palace, where Cornell had been residing ever since his arrival to Findara. He had stayed back after sending his son off, so he could use this opportunity to make his plans.

Cornell knew of everything that had been going on in the palace, and also knew about the court case and the king’s announcement to make Hamon king. However, the shocking news was...in one night everything suddenly changed. The crown Prince and his wife had suddenly disappeared, Cassius’ succession, which was once considered a dead hope, was revived.

What an amusing turn of events! He thought with a grin on his face. Ulric, who had been bringing him news everyday, continued to report,

"I think the crown Prince and his wife have finally fallen into the queen’s trap this time. However, I don’t know exactly what is going on inside the crown Prince’s residence, Ellyn who may have more information, could not step out because the entire grounds are filled with bowmen."

Cornell sneered, "Since Merona hasn’t yet found the crown Prince’s body, it only means she also hasn’t confirmed his death yet..."

"I refuse. Tell her my soldiers are not here in Findara at the moment. And most of them are dead, so I am sorry I can’t help her this time." He instructed with a straight face. Just because he was letting her win against Hamon, doesn’t mean he wasn’t part of the game to get the throne. He would attack when the time was right.

He resumed to speak, "I know the queen will do anything to make her idiotic son sit on the throne, so we must not relax until the crown Prince’s body is found. Send more men to search below the cliff, we have to find him either dead or alive before Merona does."

"I understand, my Lord."

"We must not act rashly, if we make one wrong move, it can ruin my years of planning."

If Hamon was indeed dead, then the soldiers of the crown Prince were needed to suppress Merona’s power. And if he was still alive, then it would be good for him to patiently wait until Hamon took down the queen himself. In either case, Frederick was no more, and the throne was currently left empty, which meant it was ripe enough for him to take.

Cornell sighed heavily, "My poor little brother’s death has left me disheartened." He said calmly. The unexpected news of his brother’s death had changed his mood.

Ulric, who heard Cornell’s remarks glanced up at him, "My Lord, are you sad about his majesty’s death?" He asked curiously.

"Of course I am. How could he die just like that?...I can’t believe he is no more, it disheartens me. I wish to have been the one to kill him with my own hands for everything he had made me go through to get back what was rightfully mine in the first place, but too bad someone beat me to it."

Ulric’s eyes widened in astonishment, but he blinked and recovered from his shock.

Cornell had never considered himself to be less than a ruler, but Frederick was the first to give him a taste of humiliation by taking his position to be king. Cornell had desired to prove himself more worthy by killing his brother in front of their father years ago, but then failed and was instead banished from Findara for years. which was why he had moved to Zari, he had never experienced such humiliation in his entire life.

He had resented their father and brother for all those years. But now all of his resentment would just have to vanish into thin air as the person for whom he’d harboured all that hate was already dead, he wasn’t even given the chance to vent his hatred as it now all had to die, and not by his own hands. Wasn’t this enough to make him feel disheartened? He still had a deep regret for not being the one to kill his brother.

But fortunately for him, he still had his brother’s offspring to prey on and also the list of the families who chose to support Frederick. He would kill them all instead, one by one he would destroy them from the core for supporting his brother’s ascension back then instead of him, but first he would so much like to kill the two sons who had their eyes on the throne as well. Che, imagine those little brats, born from his treacherous younger brother, competing with him for the throne! He mused.

"I hope they finish their stupid fight soon, I’d really like to see, who gets to kill the other first, will it be that stupid queen’s triumph, or will she be caught off guard if Hamon ends up surviving? Regardless of who wins between them, I’ll still be the one to take the spotlight in the end, soon, Findara will be in my hands, just as it was always meant to be."

Cornell did not care who the winner was, after all, he would grant them all a miserable death in the end. Including the queen, who had added to his brother’s power to take the throne by marrying him. The time was already drawing near for him to rebel against the kingdom. He would destroy Findara and rebuild it in his own way.
