Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 242: Simple life

Chapter 242: Simple life

"Mmhm." Ara stirred in her sleep then slowly opened her eyes. The old brown wooden ceiling of the small log cabin had become a familiar sight to awaken to for the past few days they’d spent here. She tilted her head to the side of the small wooden bed she was laying on, but found it empty.

Hamon. She pushed herself off the bed to go and see where he was.

Ara and Hamon had fallen down the high cliff, she’d thought they’d die, but fortunately they fell into a flowing raging river below the cliff. Even with Hamon’s deep sword wound and the poison running through his veins, he had held on to her tightly when she lost consciousness from the impact of the fall. This had saved her.

However, when she regained consciousness she found herself in that same small log cabin she’d once been to with Hamon before their wedding. Hamon had managed to teleport the both of them to the cabin.

When Ara opened her eyes that night, she looked around the small place. The cabin only contained the wooden bed and a fireplace, with a thick blanket covering her. Panic lines formed between her brows when she found Hamon curled up on the cabin floor all drenched, shivering badly, with a pool of blood around him.

"Hamon!" She had leapt off the bed that night and rushed to his side. With shaky hands, she tucked the wet silver strands of hair back and lifted his head on her lap.

"Hamon, you are bleeding..." hot tears began to stream down her cheeks seeing his condition. What was she going to do now? She looked around the dimly lit cabin in panic.

"I...I am cold...so cold." He uttered through clattering teeth.

Ara hurriedly helped him to the small bed. Despite the blood, she covered his body with the only blanket she could find in the cabin. Thankfully, with the help of the moonlight coming through the small window. She saw some woods in the fireplace. She quickly made the fire and ran back to him on the bed.

Ara pulled the blanket off again, she tore his shirt to inspect his wound. Her eyes widened in shock seeing the deep wound in his stomach. If he was a normal human, he wouldn’t have survived this...

More tears began to roll down her cheeks, "Hamon..." The wound looked terribly deep and was still bleeding. She quickly tore her long dress and with a shaky hand, she tied it around his waist to stop the blood, however it was futile, red blood soon soaked the fabric.

What was she going to do now? He wasn’t healing like he normally does. Ara began to panic. If she remembered clearly, this log cabin was far away from the town, it was built in a forest close to a river. How was she going to take him to a physician in this state?

As if sensing her panicked state, Hamon grabbed her wrists, he managed to say, "l...I will heal in time, the sword was poisoned and...I can’t transform to heal, don’t worry, just stay with me...I will be fine." He pulled her to him on the bed. His body was cold as ice, she thought.

That night, Ara hadn’t slept and only watched after him. Thankfully, he stopped shivering and soon fell into a deep sleep, he slept for a complete two days. She had lived with worry in those two days, every minute, she kept checking his breathing. She had survived on fish for those days.

On the third day, Hamon had woken up in the middle of the night. However, he looked different from the man she knew. Purple veins, darker red eyes, long claws...And sharp long fangs. Ara’s heart dropped to her stomach at the sight of him, a cold chill ran down her spine.

Ara’s leg went jelly soft, but what surprised her the most was how the wound in his back began to close up. He made strange noises as if he was in pain, and that was all it took to make her run to his side. Seeing her by his side, Hamon immediately pulled her into his arms, he hugged her and clenched to her tightly as he held back the pained cry.

"A..Ara, it...hurts, it’s burning..." He muttered with his voice sounding hoarse and tight. Right from his childhood, his transformation had always been painful, especially when he was healing and transforming at the same time.

Hamon was the one in pain, but Ara was the one in tears. Her heart ached seeing him in such a condition, she raised her hands and ran it up and down his back, while muttering words of comfort to his ear. The wound in his back had healed, but the one in his stomach seemed to be taking it’s time to close.

That night Hamon had passed out again due to the pain. He had only regained his strength yesterday, but the wound in his stomach hadn’t healed completely yet.

Presently awaken, Ara walked outside the cabin. There he was at the edge of the wooden bridge they’d sat that day.

Hamon stood shirtless, he had taken off his coat and was fishing in the river. He still wore the makeshift bandage torn from her dress. His wounds was still in the process of healing, and she made sure to apply herbs that she’d harvested when he was unconscious for days.

The sky was gloomy today. And Hamon didn’t seem to have noticed her yet. She watched as he gripped a wooden harpoon in his hand. She was also skilled with the weapon, and from that they had been able to have a few modest meals. Camping life was not too difficult as they had both experienced it at the battlefield.

Hamon’s harpoon swiftly struck the water, when he lifted it up, a fish had skewered on the tip. Despite how pale he looked, the sight in front of her was mesmerizing to watch. Toned muscular torso, bulging veins on his taut arms as he lifted the fish.

Handsome. She mused.

As if noticing her presence behind, he looked over his shoulder and spoke, "You’re awake."

"Hmm, haven’t I told you not to stress yourself until you’re fully healed. I’ve told you to leave the fishing to me." She scolded. She wouldn’t want him doing the work when his wound was still there. She had only allowed him roast the fish yesterday because he insisted on helping. But she quite enjoyed how he made it though, She thought.

Hamon grinned as he approached her, "I woke up before you, so I decided not to wake you up. Don’t worry, I am fine now."

Ara sighed, "Alright, but don’t push yourself too much." She said while she crouched down to gather some dry woods outside the cabin to make fire, "I’ll start the fire while you’ll roast the fish, just like you did yesterday. I liked it." She smiled.

Hamon chuckled in satisfaction, "It will be my pleasure to make it again, since you like it." He remarked as he removed the fish scales and and rinsed it off. When he was done, he made towards Ara who was busy starting the fire. He then sat on the ground close to her and began to prepare the fish.

After Hamon was done roasting the fish, he presented it to his wife first, "Here, eat up."

"Thank you." She smiled as she took the fish on a leaf from Hamon. Never in her entire life had she imagined having such a simple life with Hamon, but then she thought it suited them so well. She wondered what it would be like if they were just an ordinary couple with a simple life_ would they have such a primitive life? In some ways, she liked the simple cabin more than all the luxuries of the royal palace.

At least here there were no assassins after their lives, and their heavy responsibilities did not burden their shoulders. Even though their situation was far from relaxing, she liked the calm serene environment.

Ara smiled bitterly knowing it wouldn’t last forever, "Hamon...When things are settled, can we have a life like this someday?" She asked in a murmur. Once Hamon took the throne and they defeated Merona and Cornell, she felt that they would be able to have a peaceful life as well.

Hamon swallowed the food in his mouth before he said, "I see you truly like this place." He beamed. He wondered how she would react if she knew he had built this place himself, including the cabin. When he was a teenager, back then he would feel lonely in the palace, and felt that it was too big for him. Plus, he wanted to live in a peaceful place. He had one day discovered this place and built it, it had taken him long as he did it alone then. And seeing that his wife liked it only made him happy.

Ara nodded, "Yes, well, it’s peaceful and there’s nothing to worry about here."

Ara’s face was calm as she spoke, but Hamon noticed the happiness in her tone. He then remarked, "If my wife wishes to live here someday, then I’ll make it so."

Ara was a bit taken aback, "Really? What about you? Wouldn’t it be tedious to you?"

Hamon chuckled, "Not at all, I’ve always loved it here. Back then I used to think, it would be great if I wasn’t born the crown Prince. I’ve always craved for an ordinary life. And now I don’t mind where I stay as long as I am with you."

Ara stared at Hamon in stunned amusement, and he flashed her a grin, "What? Are my words surprising?"

She bobbed her head, "...Yes, it is."

Hamon was the crown Prince, and the throne was his birthright from the beginning. She had never expected he was also open to the idea of a simple life.

"You know, sometimes I feel like I don’t need anything else apart from you." He murmured softly.

Ara’s throat tightened at his words. She already knew this and now that he had risked his life many times for her sake. He had not only taken the sword meant for her at the cliff, but he had saved her from being swept away from the river. All his actions spoke loudly enough already.

Her eyes burned with tears, and she blinked several times to blink away the tears, "l...I am happy to know that I am important to you, but please...next time don’t do that again. I thought I’d lost you, and taking the attack meant for me_ you’re royalty for goodness sake, Hamon, even though I am your wife, I am still like your servant, and as the next king, you shouldn’t do that for the sake of your servant."

Ara longed for a life like this free from threats and responsibilities, but she could not forget the reality facing them, she couldn’t let him throw away the throne for their fleeting wishes of living an ordinary life.

Hamon’s expression hardened, he spoke in a serious tone, "That is nonsense. It doesn’t matter where I stand or who I am, You’re not my servant but the woman I married and the one I love. Don’t ever say that again."

"..."

"Authority and honor are nothing without my wife."

Their eyes locked, and the tears in her eyes rolled down her cheeks, "Hamon..." Her voice was filled with emotions.

Suddenly, heavy raindrops began to fall. Startled, Ara glanced upwards and saw the sky had darkened with grey clouds. Bolts of lightening struck followed by a loud sound of thunder. Hamon quickly stood up from the ground, "Let’s get inside, it’s going to be a heavy rain."

"Alright." Ara hurriedly began to gather their roasted fish and woods before running inside the cabin. However, before they made it inside, the pair were soaking wet.

Hamon, now inside the cabin closed the small window where the wind blew fiercely inside. "It’s good we are done before it began to rain, we have_" his words caught in his throat as he turned towards Ara and saw her soaking wet figure. His body stiffened at the sight in front of him.

Ara completely oblivious of her state noticed his reaction and asked, "Are you alright?"

Hamon cleared his throat, "I am fine." He hastily turned his head away from her direction. Ara furrowed her brows at his strange behavior then suddenly realized her current state as the breeze grazed her chest.

Her dress had been torn and was now sticking to her body, making her curves visible beneath the thin fabric, not just that. Ara glanced down, that was when she noticed her dress strings at the bosom area had completely came lose exposing her breasts. "Ah!" She hurriedly crossed her arms around her chest to cover herself, and a fiery blush rose to her face.

For the first time there was an awkward silence in the cabin and only the heavy sounds of raindrops hitting the roof was heard.

’Stupid!’
