Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 239: Go down together
Chapter 239: Go down together
It would be a long walk from the palace before they’d reach behind the castle where Frederick was waiting for them. It wasn’t a comfortable walking distance from Hamon’s residence. Therefore, they took Hamon’s horse instead. Ara sat comfortably in front of him, while both his arms were below her waist as he held the horse’s reins.
Astral was moving in a slow pace, however before they took the horse, Ara had curiously asked, "Hamon why not teleport us both to the place? It will be faster and easier."
But Hamon’s reply was, "It is not easy to teleport with another person, I haven’t yet mastered that. Normally, it drains half of my energy using that part of my ability, and sometimes it doesn’t even work when I need it. Or it might take me to the wrong destination. Let’s just take my horse instead for now." He had told her.
Ara was still curious about all the abilities her husband possessed, but her curiosity could wait after Hamon’s coronation. For now she needed to focus on how to tell him about Cornell and her death.
Ara looked around the passing scenery. This was her first time being in this side of the castle premises, "I never thought such a beautiful place exists here. It’s lovely."
The view was breathtakingly stunning with the moonlight as their illuminating guide. Tall trees went in lines at both sides of the clear path, with gentle breeze blowing against the leaves.
Despite the beautiful scenery, Ara’s mind still felt heavy from her new discovery of the wish. At least, if Hamon becomes king, she’d have little to worry about the future repeating itself.
"You think it’s lovely?" He asked, then said, "But I can’t see the beauty of the scenery when you are with me, because you’re too beautiful that your presence alone will make me blind to everything else around me."
Ara tilted her head to the side with a grin. She could not see his face but knew he was smiling warmly. Hamon held the reins with one hand and put the other one around her waist. He drew her closer to him. This lovely gesture was reserved for only her, and it made her feel a gentle thrill.
Ara placed her hand onto his, which was around her waist, "I have the most handsome and caring man as my husband. My hubby is the best."
Hamon blinked as if he wasn’t expecting his wife to challenge him in the game of compliment. He chuckled amusingly at her competitiveness.
When he chuckled, Ara felt the vibration of it against her back, it was deep and smooth, sending a shiver down her spine. Goosebumps were quick to form on her skin.
"Really? You think am the best?" He whispered softly to her ear, his warm breath tickling her earlobe. Ara suddenly remembered when he’d pushed her against the pillar and kissed her. She flushed to the roots and then quickly tried to move away from him, but unfortunately there was no where to move to on the horse.
Her reaction only made Hamon’s laughter increase, "It’s really obvious to know what you’re thinking right now, and it’s only driving me crazy, honey." He leaned in a kissed her earlobe.
Ara quickly pulled the reins, and the horse came to a stop.
Hamon frowned, "Why did you stop the horse?"
"We are here." She said, and he glanced around and saw she was right, "Oh, faster than I thought." He remarked and swiftly climbed down the horse. Meanwhile, Ara found relief in calming her frantically beating heart. She had been tense everytime she recalled that they would consummate their marriage after his coronation. The thought of it alone sent fear and excitement to her bones for some reason. And yet he continued to tease her.
When Ara didn’t climb down and was dazed in thoughts, she suddenly felt Hamon carried her down the horse, "Hamon!" She exclaimed when he brought her down unexpectedly.
Ara threw a light punch to his chest as he had taken her off guard, but Hamon only laughed out loud again. She glared at him with her flushed face then hurriedly walked past him.
"My wife, wait for me." He hurried after Ara, who was already walking ahead. He caught up to her and took her hand in his, intertwining their fingers.
The couple made their way towards the king’s favorite spot behind the castle. The cool night air blowing, and swaying their hair, making their quiet night stroll more comfortable and peaceful.
However, the peace did not last long. At that moment, countless men in black attires emerged from the thick bushes surrounding them.
Seeing the men, Hamon quickly put on his protective shield and drew Ara behind him. He took grasp of the situation and realized they were being ambushed, again!
It was not normal to be suddenly attacked in a place where the king had summoned him. His red eyes hardened, "Who the hell are you?!"
The men did not speak, and their only response was to lift their swords together in preparation to attack. This was definitely an unfavourable situation for them, with their guards down due to the fact that they were still inside the palace, they had no guards or weapons to defend themselves.
Hamon’s hand found Ara’s from behind, he said, "I have to try to teleport us both from here, hold on tight."
Feeling his wife clenched tightly to his hand, Hamon closed his eyes and tried to teleport. He succeeded in teleporting the both of them, but unfortunately they did not teleport out of the premises, and only ended up in the middle of the attackers, an even closer range where their attackers would find it easier to attack them.
"Damn it." He cursed under his breath. He’d have to try again, however before he could try, two throwing stars landed squarely on his back.
"Hamon!" Ara’s eyes rounded as blood began to ooze out, staining his pure white shirt.
Hamon winced at the burning pain in his back, it flowed through his veins like hot iron. Poison!
Despite the pain, Hamon only drew his wife behind him again as a few more men began to surround them. "Ara, take those damned things out of my flesh. It burns like hell." He instructed.
Ara nodded, "Alright." but before she could even raise her hands to remove the throwing stars from his flesh, her vision suddenly blurred out, as the men had thrown a smokey rag towards them. Clouding their vision. Ara began to cough, the smoke was intoxicating. She quickly covered her nose with her sleeves. Due to the area’s isolation, there was no way anyone would hear them from the palace.
Ara’s mind blanked out for some seconds, but before she knew it, Hamon had left her side, in the blink of an eye he took down three men at once and took their swords.
"Ara!" He called out to her, and tossed her a sword. She fleetingly caught the sword and ran towards him. However, her limbs were beginning to turn weak due to the smoke she inhaled. Ara managed to fight side by side with Hamon, who cut down men like animals.
More men came rushing out of nowhere. Swords clashed against swords, and as they both fought, the attackers kept pulling up on them.
Ara glanced around, the fact that there was an ambush prepared here where the king had called Hamon likely meant he was in trouble as well,
"Hamon, where is father?" She asked, slashing down the attackers.
Hamon’s eyes darkened ominously at Ara’s question, but he remained focused on the immediate problem in front of them, "We will worry about that later, let’s get out of here first."
One of the attackers suddenly jumped in front of him, but Hamon drove his sword into the man’s chest, ripping it apart. Piles of dead bodies began to fall on the ground as Hamon moved swiftly between the enemies with two swords, blood gushed into the air. Hamon’s abilities were limited due to the smoke and poison running through his veins at the moment, however he didn’t show any signs of weakness and continued to cut them down.
Soon, the couple’s clothes were soaked in dark red blood. Just when they thought they’d killed all the men, more came rushing out from the bushes.
Hamon gritted his teeth, "There are too many of them, we have to leave."
Ara’s eyebrows furrowed, "But there is no escape, how can we leave?" She asked as all the men were already blocking their escape routes.
"There is only one way out, but it’s a dangerous way. Just follow my lead, and be careful not to get hurt tonight, understood?"
"Understood." She smiled despite feeling the urge to sleep because of the damn smoke in the air.
Hamon was far more familiar with the grounds as he’d lived in the palace longer than Ara. Therefore, he led the way, it was an unexpected pathway, which even the attackers didn’t expect him to follow that way. However, they were determined to kill the crown Prince tonight no matter what, so they trailed behind the couple in hot pursuit.
As they were running, Ara who was already weak tripped on her dress and fell to the ground, the sword she held cut her palm. Although it wasn’t a deep cut, blood oozed out.
Hamon quickly ran back to her, he went on his knees and grabbed her hand to examine the cut, but suddenly another attacker caught up to them. Hamon swiftly blocked the man’s sword with one hand and ripped the man’s head off as he spoke to Ara, "if I had known this would happen, I wouldn’t have brought you out with me."
Despite the danger before them, Ara stood up from the ground with a smile, "I am glad I came with you."
Hamon’s frown deepened in displeasure, he realized the gravity of their situation weighing in on him seeing how weak she was getting, "Do you know we might die tonight, there are over hundreds of men after us? I can only fight with my sword, my powers don’t seems to be working for some reason. If anything happens to you again, I won’t be able to bring you back...can you listen to me this time and stay hidden behind those bushes while I fight them off? The smoke we inhaled doesn’t seem to affect me the way it’s affecting you. Please_"
"No, I am not going to hide anywhere while you fight!" Ara stated firmly. She had lived in loneliness in their past life after losing the people she loved, and now if anything happened to Hamon while she was hiding...She would be left alone again. She would rather die with him than live a life alone without him.
"Hamon, if today is your last day, then I shall go with you. I will gladly die with you!" If her husband would fall here tonight, then she would gladly go down with him.
Hamon grinned, he then leaned down to place a light kiss on her lips, "Then we shall go together." He took her hand in his and continued to lead her into the dark bushes. Soon they arrived at a dauntingly high cliff.
Ara’s eyes widened in shock at the sight of the dark endless abyss below the cliff, she clutched tightly to his hand, "Hamon, a cliff_"
"Don’t worry. Just trust me, hmm?"
Jumping off such a cliff was not much better than being killed by the assassins. But since he said to trust him, she trusted him.
Ara nodded, "I trust you."
Soon the attackers gained in on them. Thus they had to fight them off first, Hamon drew his bloody sword and began to kill the ones rushing towards them. Meanwhile, Ara felt lightheaded and a bit dizzy. In a gap between the attacks, a sword flew furiously straight towards Ara in an angle she couldn’t avoid. She tried to block it, but her limbs were too weak to move.
Ara knew that there was no way she could avoid the sword, she shut her eyes in preparation for the hit. Suddenly, Hamon arms grabbed hold of her body and swiftly hugged her while the sword ran into his back. It pierced deeply into his back, to the extent Ara felt it grazed her stomach slightly from his front.
Immediately, he coughed out blood, and his hold around her tightened. Blood spurted out like a fountain. The scene seemed to happen in front of Ara’s eyes in slow motion. "Hamon!" Her eyes wide in shock, but Hamon forced a smile, "I...I am fine, don’t worry."
Ara supported all his weight, she didn’t have much time as more men were rushing out again, "For heavens sake, Hamon!" Tears streamed down her eyes as she felt his blood continue to rush out. "Why did you do that?"
"I can’t watch my wife get hurt before my eyes. If that sword had hit you...I might lose you again, stay with me, Arabella."
Ara wanted him to live, while he also wanted her to survive. She cried, "You are really stupid for taking the hit! Look you are bleeding badly."
Hamon smiled as blood trickled from the side of his mouth, "You said you are ready to die with me...Then let’s go together." He hugged her tightly as he moved towards the edge of the cliff. Ara’s heart pounded fiercely against her ribcage as he moved them both towards the cliff.
If they jumped...there was no chance of survival, but strangely she was ready to die with Hamon. She wrapped her arms around his waist and shut her eyes closed tightly.
"Hamon, I love you." She murmured softly, making a smile crossed his lips, "And I love you even more, my wife."
Just when the assassins rushed towards them, Hamon jumped with Ara in his arms down the cliff.
