Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 238: King’s letter
Chapter 238: King’s letter
In the crown Prince’s residence, the atmosphere in the entire compound was vibrantly jubilant since the king’s announcement to make the crown Prince king. All Hamon’s soldiers including the servants in his residence were celebrating his victory, they were having a bonfire at the courtyard. Drinking and laughing.
The entire courtyard was filled with laughter of the soldiers. Some soldiers sat on the long wood around the fire, including Oliver, who sat straight as Emma’s head was resting on his lap as she’d drunk quite a lot, her tolerance for alcohol was not that good. He thought as he stared at her sleeping face with a goofy grin.
Some soldiers who sat beside them, pressed down their laughter at Oliver’s expression. It was already a known fact to all of them that Oliver fancies the head maid. Sometimes he would even sneak to her room at night, and the head maid never failed to bring him meals at the training grounds everyday.
Oliver’s subordinate could no longer hold back as they watched him stroke Emma’s hair lovingly, "So, Oliver when is the wedding?" One of the soldiers asked teasingly, making the rest laugh out loud again, "Yes, we can’t wait for the wedding, we will have a feast on that day."
"I will be in charge of all the food!" One of them said from behind, and they all burst into a roar of laughter.
Oliver shot them a glare to shut their mouths so they wouldn’t wake up Emma, but the soldiers did not pay heed to his warning glares and continued to tease him. At their loud noises, Emma began to stir on his lap.
Oliver’s eyebrows furrowed, "If you all don’t shut those holes on your faces, I will make sure you won’t see tomorrow not to mention having a feast at my wedding." He warned in a low voice, however deep down, he was happy about the idea of marrying Emma.
’I will definitely marry her after his highness becomes king.’ With this thought, a smile spread on his face and he resumed to stroke Emma’s hair.
As the celebration was going on outside in the courtyard, so was it in the crown Prince’s chamber. Ara sat on the couch unlady like as she drank with Hamon. She sat with one leg resting on the table, while the other one was flung on her husband’s lap.
They were both laughing loudly as well. On one side of the floor were empty bottles of wine, and yet they continued to drink as they reminisced about their past life in the army in Greenwood.
"Do you remember the first time I held a sword? I almost slit your throat by accident, but then you were quick to twist the sword out of my grip. Didn’t I tell you I couldn’t do it, but you still forced me to try!" Ara exclaimed enthusiastically and Hamon laughed when he recalled the day she was talking about.
"If I hadn’t caught you in time, you’d have really done a damage on me, my wife." He said, then sipped from his wine, but then seeing how Ara sat, made him shake his head with a small smile. One wouldn’t know she was a lady nor a crown princess with how she was seated at the moment.
Ara had a broad smile on her face as she happily continued to drink her wine, not minding sitting properly. She felt like the happiest person in the world today. At last, Hamon would be king and her family would be safe from such a horrible future.
She emptied her wine glass and poured another, "Hamon, the king has just announced your coronation today, but look, you already started receiving piles of gifts from the officials and nobles of Findara."
Hamon chuckled, "Oh trust me, those gifts are not meant to celebrate my victory, but to please me. They are pleading for their lives. Many who wrote their names in the petition wouldn’t be sleeping peacefully tonight for the fear that I might attack them. That’s why they sent all those gifts." He gestured to the pile of boxes at one side of their chamber.
Now that Hamon’s victory had been assured, it was only natural that many of the queen’s supporters would want to switch alliance.
Hamon and Ara exchanged glances and began to laugh at their inside jokes again. Ara watched how Hamon drank and laughed wholeheartedly, she’d never seen him this happy before. And she found even his laughter extremely cute. His dimples alone were to die for. And this handsome man was her husband. How lucky she was. She mused.
But Ara’s smile slowly began to fall. Flashes of how she died in her previous life began to come back to her in full force. How Cornell’s sharp blade had cut through her flesh, his laughter and his words echoed in her head.
_’Ha ha ha...How will you kill me when you are on the edge of death yourself? Even if the heavens decide to grant you another chance at life, you’d never be able to kill me, little girl. For I have dealt with your father, besides, I will kill you now, so how will you be able to kill me?’
_’You unruly little girl, you should have quietly taken this chance and gone far away to live your life, yet you returned to take revenge, che! How ridiculous, but who would have thought, the powerful warrior behind the death of so many of my slayers turned out to be you, the daughter of that treacherous general Richard Boxton, who I thought I already killed,’
_’But unfortunately for you, you’re as stubborn as your father, you decided to come after me? Let me tell you this... You will never be able to kill me no matter how many chances you get!’
Ara’s fingers tightened around her glass, anger boiled in her blood as those memories flashed to her again. She recalled the regret of how she had failed to avenge her family. How she had died with her sword in one hand, and the magical necklace in the other hand. What! The necklace...
Ara’s eyes rounded as she recalled her words to Cornell before he killed her.
_I...will kill you! I wish I could turn back the hands of time and get to do it all again, I will make it my greatest mission to see your end! I will have your head roll on the dirt and vultures feast on your dirty corpse, because you do not deserve a place on this earth, you monster!...I will kill you myself...yo_’
Could it be the necklace had granted her wish and turned back the hands of time?! Realization began to dawn on her, she had unknowingly wished on the magical stone before she died! Was that why the stone was dark red now?
Ara’s glass slipped from her grip and it broke into pieces, startling Hamon, who almost choked at the sudden sound, he glanced at her and noticed she looked pale, "What’s wrong? Are you alright?" He asked worriedly as he moved towards her.
Ara glanced at Hamon’s worried look, "Hamon, I have something to tell you..." She murmured.
Worried lines formed between his brows, he dropped his glass, "What is it?" He gave her his full attention.
Ara dropped the leg that had been resting on Hamon’s lap, she inhaled deeply. She had yet to tell him about her death in their previous life, and how Cornell, his uncle had destroyed her peaceful family over night.
At first, she hadn’t told him the truth because she hadn’t trusted that he would believe her as she’d lied to him in their previous life about joining the army because she wanted to become stronger to prove her father wrong about women not carrying swords. Moreover, he treated his uncle so well in this lifetime.
But now, she would tell him everything Cornell had done after Hamon left Findara in their previous life. Before telling him about the wish, she had to explain this to him first. She couldn’t continue to keep the truth from him.
When Hamon left Findara in their previous life, he had cut all ties with the kingdom to the extent he knew nothing about what the happenings were. Right now seemed to be the right time to tell him.
"My wife, What do you want to tell me?" Hamon asked as she wasn’t saying anything.
Ara cleared her throat, "Hamon, in our previous life_"
She was about to speak, when a knock on the door interrupted her.
The pair glanced towards the door at the same time, but Hamon said, "Ignore the knock. Whoever is there will get tired and leave and assume we’re already asleep. Now tell me what you wanted to say." He prompted her to continue, however the person at the door continued to knock repeatedly, making Hamon curse under his breath in annoyance.
Ara frowned, "It may be important, we can’t ignore the knock." She said, and before Hamon could reply, "Come in." She called out.
With Ara’s permission given, the door opened and a maid entered to inform, "Your Highness, the head butler of his majesty is here to see you. He said it’s urgent."
Hearing this, Hamon suddenly remembered that the king had told him to come to his residence to meet him tonight. But he’d completely forgotten, because the moment they returned from the court, he had opened the wine cellar and given his soldiers to celebrate their victory.
"Let him in." He said as he stood to his feet.
The maid bowed, "Yes, your highness." And left the room.
Hamon turned towards his wife and noticed she was about to open another bottle of wine. He frowned, and quickly snatched it from her hand, "That’s enough, you’ve had quite a lot tonight."
Ara didn’t protest and gave a nod of her head. She then asked, "Why is the head butler here to meet you? Did something perhaps happen to father?"
"I doubt that, maybe father sent him to deliver a message to me."
Damian walked into the room, then bowed to the couple, "Hail your highnesses!"
"Arise, What brings you here?" Hamon asked.
The head butler held out a paper, "His majesty had sent for you. He said to give this to you."
Hamon took the folded paper, but didn’t immediately open it and questioned the head butler, "How is my father’s health?"
"His majesty’s health seems much better tonight. He’s had a terrible cough at night lately, but it has been quiet tonight. His condition is quite good, there’s no need for any worry."
Hamon inwardly sighed in relief hearing Damian’s words. But he nodded in acknowledgement then unfolded the paper and skimmed through the short content.
[Hamon meet me behind the castle, we have to discuss about your brother’s case.]
Hamon’s eyebrows furrowed. Was this the reason his father asked him to meet him tonight? To discuss about Cassius again? Hamon scoffed internally. Here he was hoping the king wanted to meet him for personal reasons, but it turned out it was because of Cassius again...
Noticing the crown Prince’s disappointed look, Damian spoke as if recalling something, "Ah...I think his majesty wants to meet you because of his words with her majesty earlier."
Hamon gave him a questioning look, so he explained, "Her majesty had pleaded with his majesty to forgive the second Prince and give him another chance to prove himself. And I believe he wants to discuss that with you." He reported exactly what he had heard from the queen’s conversation with the king.
Hamon remained silent for a moment, before nodding his head, "You may leave, I will go and meet the king when am done."
Damian bowed deeply and left the room. Hamon tucked the paper inside his pocket and and returned to the couch next to his wife, "Now tell me what you wanted to say earlier. I’m all ears." He said calmly, as he was no longer that interested in meeting his father after hearing the reason he summoned him.
"We will talk about that later, first you should go and see his majesty. It might be important, I will tell you everything after you return."
It would take awhile for her to explain the whole story to him. And also her death before. It would be best to tell him when he returned.
Hamon threw her an intrigued look, but then he couldn’t keep the king waiting behind the castle. He reluctantly stood up from the couch, he really did not feel like meeting the king. But he had to.
As if thinking about something, Hamon said, "How about we go and meet father together?" He suggested.
Ara wanted to protest, but then thought, it would be a good idea to go with Hamon, so they could convince the king not to release Cassius. Furthermore, she wanted to ask him some questions about the magical stone.
She nodded, "Alright, it’s better I go with you."
Hamon stretched out his hand towards Ara, so he could help her stand. She gladly took his hand, and he swiftly pulled her to her feet.
"Shall we?" He offered her his arm this time. Ara wrapped her slender hand around his with a smile. "Let’s go."
