Chapter 237: Lure him out

Chapter 237: Lure him out

Merona stiffened on the same spot for some seconds after realizing she had really killed the king, but then she exhaled a deep breath, Since she’d killed him now, she had to make use of this opportunity for her own benefits.

Merona was well aware that if she did not kill Frederick, there was no way he would restore Cassius’ right to the throne after everything that had happened.

But now, the king was no more. A thrill of exhilaration ran down her spine.

’Now Cassius can be king without any obstacle. But I have to make it seem like a natural death, and...!’ Her thoughts trailed off as she got an idea. Merona quickly recovered from her momentary pause, she approached Fredrick’s desk. She took a quill and a paper and began to write somethings down. She made sure to write in the king’s handwriting, she’d lived long enough with Frederick to master his handwriting.

She wrote; [My illness has worsened overnight, I might not live to see the sunlight tomorrow, so I want to make things right. I Frederick De Biville have restored the second Prince’s right to succession.] After writing this, she marked it with the king’s seal, and also stood up and signed it with Fredrick’s thumbprint. She made it appear as if the king had written the letter before he died.

Nobody would suspect, as most king’s who knew they’d die soon, normally wrote a letter to drop their last request. Therefore, people would think Frederick had written it before he passed away.

Merona folded the paper and was about to keep it, but halted. If this letter convinces all the officials, it wouldn’t convince Hamon. That bastard was smarter than everyone, he would definitely not fall for this. There were still many charges against her and Cassius, and they wouldn’t be able to avoid the punishment as long as Hamon was still alive. Furthermore, now that Frederick was no more, the throne can not be left empty. And since Frederick had publicly announced Hamon’s coronation, the officials would crown him in no time after hearing about the king’s death.

Why hadn’t she thought of this before killing Frederick?! But, she could still make Cassius king if Hamon was no more before tomorrow.

’If Hamon also dies, then...’

Merona beamed at her thoughts. There was only one way out of this. Hamon dies tonight! With him no more, then the next successor would certainly be Cassius. She would show the king’s false letter to the officials after Hamon was out of the picture, and Cassius would be crowned in no time, and all the accusations on them would forever be buried away!

First of all she had to make sure no one knew of Fredrick’s death yet until she killed Hamon as well.

’And tonight, he shall die!’

Merona glanced at the entrance door where she was sure that annoying Damian was standing outside the entrance. With a crooked smile, she deliberately began to wail loudly so the guards and and the head butler would hear her voice begging the king to restore her son’s right.

"Your majesty! Please forgive your son, give him a second chance to prove himself to you!" She cried and moved around the chair to make noises that sounded like the king was still alive and was just ignoring her plea.

"Your majesty, I am ready to do anything just for you to forgive Cassius! He was wrong, but please don’t deprive him of his birthright, please."

After Merona was done with her show, she had to convince the people outside that she had been crying. Thus, she removed her hairpin and grazed it on her leg, painful tears began to stream down her eyes and she let out a loud sob For them to hear.

She stood up and returned the pillow to it’s rightful place and tucked the king in to make it appear like he was sleeping peacefully. Merona walked back to the desk and hurriedly wrote down another letter in the king’s handwriting for Hamon, she folded it and took it with her outside.

Merona opened the door and stepped outside. The head butler looked astonished to see the queen’s red eyes and tear-stained face. He had heard the king and the queen quarreling a moment ago, so the queen was really begging the king? He mused.

"Damian..." She called softly.

"Yes, Your majesty?" He bowed.

"His majesty requests to see the crown Prince, he wants to have a word with him."

Damian frowned upon hearing her words. He found it strange that the queen was the one to deliver the king’s word, when the king would normally call out to him from inside his chamber. Damian quickly dismissed the thought when he recalled Frederick had said the crown Prince would come and meet him tonight, maybe that was it.

He bowed respectfully to the queen, "I will deliver his majesty’s words to the crown Prince immediately." He turned to go and do as he was told, when, "Damian, here, his majesty also said to deliver this to the crown Prince." Merona said as she handed him a letter.

With a puzzled look, Damian took the paper and bowed again, "Yes, Your majesty, I will deliver it to his highness right away."

It was not until the head butler left did Merona let out the breath she did not know she was holding. She had written the second letter with the king’s handwriting telling the crown Prince to come and meet him at the back of the palace.

Findara’s royal castle was built on a hill, it was at the top. And the king had always liked to go and clear his mind behind the palace. However, behind this large castle was a high cliff with beautiful scenery, it was a relatively secluded area where not everyone was allowed there as it was also dangerous. She wanted to lure the crown Prince there to finish him up tonight.

Merona turned to one of the guards standing at the entrance of the king’s room and said, "I am not feeling that well, please go and call Edwin immediately, tell him to come with my medicine before I pass out." She held her head with both her hands so the guards would believe her.

The guard was taken aback as that wasn’t his job to be ordered around but to stand guard. Nevertheless, seeing the queen’s condition, he didn’t protest and hurriedly bowed, "Yes, Your majesty." The guard quickly left. While Merona could leave by herself, she did not want anyone to know of the king’s death, until she achieved her goals. She needed to stay on guard so no one will enter the room, however somehow, she had to take care of her plans to kill Hamon, so she sent for Edwin.

Merona glanced towards the rest of the guards and said, " I am not done discussing with his majesty, so do not let anyone in without my permission, understood?"

"Yes, Your majesty." They bowed at her orders.

Merona was determined to finish everything tonight before the sunrise tomorrow. ’I won’t fail this time!’
