Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 230: A monster can’t be our king!
Chapter 230: A monster can’t be our king!
First thing the next day, Merona had already summoned a meeting with all her closest officials. She sat on the king’s royal throne like a ruler, with Edwin standing by her right side.
Because of the king’s illness, she had the advantage to do as she pleased in the palace without his knowledge. Thus, she sat on his throne, while all the court officials gathered in a straight line before her. The scene looked like that of a king discussing state affairs with the officials.
One of the officials stepped forward with his head slightly bowed, "Your royal majesty, with all due respect, we heard from the elites who attended the soiree in the crown Prince’s residence that the second Prince was arrested due to drugs and violating women. Is that true?"
Although, Merona had attempted to hide that information from the world, she could not cover everyone’s eyes and ears. She had intended to retrieve her son before the rumors spread wide, but all her efforts had stalled because of Ara’s so called soiree last night. Merona knew she would be faced with all these questions today, therefore she was prepared to deal with it.
Some of the officials gathered here before Merona were loyal to her not the king. Most of the officials allegiance were more fleeting, but there was only one reason they continued to stand by her_ she still wielded immense power in the kingdom. Which was why, even after the rumors spread about Cassius, they wanted to ascertain the truth from her.
She may try to stop the spreading of the rumors from getting any bigger, but even she wouldn’t be able to hide it from those who knew the truth. It was better to clarify the situation rather than cause further misleading.
Merona kept a calm expression as she answered, "Yes, the second Prince is currently held a prisoner in the crown Prince’s residence."
Stunned murmuring suddenly broke out from the officials. Edwin yelled at them in a loud voice, "Silence! You are before her majesty!"
Silence immediately fell over the room. Merona continued with a smile, "I know you are all aware of the king’s sickness by now. Since his majesty is on the edge of life and death, Prince Hamon is attempting to take over the throne by sabotaging the second Prince."
Another official stepped forward and spoke, "With all due respect, your majesty. Does this mean the second Prince is not guilty of this crime?"
"We are not sure yet, but why would Prince Hamon keep Cassius behind bars without officially processing the case? Can’t you all see it’s because he is trying to condemn the second Prince."
Merona neatly evaded the facts and slowly set about stirring up the officials. The officials started to murmur among themselves.
"That’s true, the crown Prince is acting up without bringing the case to court. He has no right to do so."
"Yes, he is going against our rules and laws."
Merona observed them, and spoke again at the right time, "I am sure you all know about the crown Prince’s nature right from the start. He was cursed to be a monster all his life. And I’m sure you all still remember how he killed recklessly without mercy. Imagine such monstrous creature taking over the throne. What would happen to our peaceful kingdom? Don’t forget what he did when he was just still a boy then."
Hearing the last part of her words, the officials expressions darkened. They hadn’t forgotten how the crown Prince had almost set the palace on fire when he was still just a boy then. He had killed innocent servants, and attacked people like a savage because he was deprived of blood. He was just about seven years old then, but now he was a man, what would happen if he attacked the people again...
Merona continued to add fuel to the already burning flames, "If Prince Hamon becomes king, what do you think he would do to this kingdom? Perhaps many of you here would be his first target for being my supporters. He would destroy Findara and only bring destruction upon us."
"...!"
Everyone of them turned pale. The officials who understood the situation no longer wondered about the stories of the second Prince’s crimes, and their focus now was only how to save Cassius from the crown Prince’s ruthless hand.
Judging that the atmosphere was ripe to her taste, Merona resumed, "We can’t let him continue to have his way, we must all protest to his majesty to have him stop the atrocities being committed by the monstrous crown Prince. Even if the second Prince is guilty, justice should be administered fairly. It is against the kingdom’s rules and laws that he’s imprisoned in a private space instead of bringing the case out."
Merona’s words were true, but she’d already made sure to bribe all the judges to speak in Cassius favor if the case was brought to light. When her son’s release was secured and was placed under formal investigation, everyone in charge would already be working for her. Then Hamon and his wife would never be able to reveal the truth about Cassius. Moreover, Hamon keeping Cassius as his prisoner would only worsen opinions against him, and the doubt would shift from her to the bastard.
The officials, now convinced by the queen’s words, were now more determined to bring their protest to the king about the crown Prince’s wrong doing. Cassius was their only protector, if anything should happened to him, that would only mean a monster would rule their kingdom.
The officials continued to speak their opinions,
"The crown Prince should be severely punished for not following our kingdom’s laws. This is not the way things are done, he is behaving more like the monster he is."
"Such a person can’t be our king. For as long as I live, I shall never see him ascend the throne. He doesn’t deserve the title of the crown Prince."
"Yes. We need to take this matter to his majesty to reconsider his decision of making such a monster the next king. We want the second Prince to rule our kingdom!"
This was exactly the reaction Merona was looking for. Now Hamon would be trapped and wouldn’t have a choice but to give in to the king’s orders to release her son.
’Let’s see how you will get out of this now, Hamon.’ Merona’s lips raised up in a Victorious smile.
