Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 231: Promise me nothing will happen to you?
Chapter 231: Promise me nothing will happen to you?
Several days passed by, and it was finally the day of the anniversary celebration. However, a lot of things had happened around the kingdom in the past few days. Those who had been gossiping about Cassius’ wrong doings, had now turned against Hamon because of the officials protests. It was like those days when he was still a boy, people of Findara had started to call him names again.
"The crown Prince might look handsome on the outside, but he is a monster. Such a person can’t be our king."
"Thank goodness I didn’t marry my daughter to him then."
"He should be punished for keeping the second Prince in his dungeon."
"A creature who doesn’t deserve to be on this earth, but in hell!"
"Demon Prince! We don’t want him to rule our kingdom. He is a monster!"
Despite all the negative words going around the kingdom about him, Hamon remained unyielding. And no one could dare get Cassius out of his custody against his will, not even the queen and her minions. Thus, the second Prince remained locked up in his underground dungeon.
Currently, Hamon and Ara were in their chamber as Ara was carefully tying his tie as usual. Today was the day, and the situation so far didn’t seem favorable to her husband. She’d been hearing all the negative words about Hamon, and it hurt her more than anything how the people of Findara could be this ignorant of the truth. Supporting someone who could destroy them afterwards.
Ara hadn’t asked Hamon a single question of how he planned to bring everything to light today, because she trusted her husband’s judgment to this extent. She had no single doubt that he would handle the situation.
Upon seeing Ara’s lost expression as she tied his ascot, Hamon gently pinched her nose in an attempt to bring her back, "What is my wife thinking about this hard with such an adorable expression?" He asked playfully, and when she glanced up at him, he asked again, "Are you perhaps worried about what would happen today?"
"..." Ara didn’t say anything and continued to tie his ascot, but Hamon could tell she was worried, and she hadn’t even asked about his next plans.
"Today’s outcome will change a lot of things, depending on how the case unfolds in the court." He remarked.
Ara then halted her movement and glanced up at his face, and he continued, "What will you do if something terrible happens to me today? Like me being punished for going against the laws."
Despite his question, his gaze was confident. Ara replied casually as she fixed his collar this time, "I might end up cutting off the second Prince’s head. Then after his death, no one will take the throne but you."
Hamon chuckled at her words, then lowered his head to her level, "That’s more like my wife, but remember if you do such a thing, the king would have no choice but to execute us both in the middle of the kingdom."
Killing the second Prince, who had not been formally convicted, would be a great risk to Hamon. And an all-out war against Merona may force him to his doom. Overthrowing the royal family by military force meant scorching earth tactics_he would not only have to remove Cassius, but king Frederick as well. If he tried to kill Cassius in a half-hearted manner, he would only be further from the throne and closer to execution.
Ara was also well aware of that fact, which was the main reason she’d kept that drug incident in Cassius’ party from Hamon at that time.
Ara pursed her lips, "If I can’t cut his head off his neck, that doesn’t mean I won’t punish him." She stated, then continued with a more serious tone, "if anyone dares lay a hand on you in the name of punishment...I will cut those officials limb by limb. I will show them I am really the wife of the demon Prince."
Hamon’s red eyes trembled slightly at her unexpected show of support. And this was all he asked for. Even though the entire kingdom would go against him, as long as this woman, his wife continued to support him and stood firm by his side, he wouldn’t worry about anything else. Only her opinion and words mattered to him. And her words at this moment brought warmth to his heart again. He smiled faintly then brushed his finger against her pale cheek,
"You wouldn’t have a reason to stain your hands with their bloods today. Don’t worry, they won’t dare punish me...And if everything goes as I’ve planned, then soon I’ll be crowned and after that...We will consummate our marriage, and you will live only as my wife as we’ve agreed in the contract."
"What contra_"
Oh their contract. She’d completely forgotten about the contract. They had agreed they wouldn’t consummate their marriage until Hamon had taken the throne. Which meant the moment he becomes king, she would take her wifely duties.
Ara’s heart pounded in her chest. She knew Hamon had done his best, and he hadn’t done anything to force her do what she wasn’t comfortable with. Every time they shared a kiss, she always noticed how his eyes burned with desire, but he controlled himself. Sometimes, he wouldn’t sleep in their room just to avoid her, he would only sleep in their room when he was too exhausted, just so he could keep to his words of not touching her until he becomes king.
"You know what, my wife? After I become king, I will make sure to burn that annoying pillow in the middle of our bed."
Ara laughed softly. Since the wedding, they had been keeping the long pillow in the middle unless she’d requested Hamon to hold her to sleep.
"Do whatever you want with the pillow...We wouldn’t need it anymore after we consummate our marriage anyway..." She murmured softly, but suddenly felt embarrassed at the words that left her mouth. Her cheeks burned. Hamon wasn’t the only one hoping for such moments, more than anyone else, she hoped for that day he would be crowned king and they would live without any fear, and her family would be safe...And perhaps they could start thinking of having their own children and dealing with the human sacrifice, which still seemed to make her feel uneasy everytime she imagined feeding blood to her children and sacrificing a human.
Hamon caressed her flushed cheeks, "I hope you keep to your words, my wife. You will live only as my woman." He stared at her green eyes, then carefully placed a tender kiss on her forehead as if to seal a vow.
Despite the softness of his lips, it felt hot as when they hotly kissed each other in his study that night. Ara glanced up at him, and Hamon cupped her cheeks, making her body feel warmer than before, "After all this is over, we will have nothing to worry about, but our future family. I will make sure I win this case for us, my love." After saying this, he drew her into his arms and embraced her, he then placed another kiss on her head.
Ara shut her eyes as she put her arms around his waist, "Promise me nothing will happen to you, Hamon." She murmured softly in his embrace.
Hamon smiled warmly as he stroked her red hair, "I promise." He assured, "We should head to the court before we keep them waiting."
