Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 220: Looking for her
Chapter 220: Looking for her
Anne continued running through the night street, she didn’t stop until the palace was out of sight. With her face still wet with tears she wandered through the streets not knowing exactly where she was heading, all she wanted was to be alone to clear her mind. At first she saw a few people on the way, but later she realized she’d wandered off too far away from the palace.
The street looked deserted with no living soul in sight but the sounds of crickets creaking in the side bushes. Anne decided to go back instead of wandering to who knows where this road leads to. She turned on her heels, but stopped when she heard some faint noises in the side bushes.
Fear began to creep up inside her. To hell with her anger, she had to leave this place. She mused, and resumed to walk with long strides, however she immediately sensed some footsteps behind her.
Anne began to run, but tripped over the hem of her dress and fell hard to the ground. She winced as pain shot through her knees. Nevertheless the moment she managed to stand on her feet, suddenly someone used a sack to cover her head from behind. She struggled to free herself, but it was futile. Before she knew it, a strong smell in the sack enveloped all her senses.
No, oh Lord not now. Before she could think of what was happening, everything went blank and she fell unconscious.
Merek, who ran after Anne earlier was surprised to have lost her. He had no idea which way she went, there was no trace of her anywhere he’d walked to. She couldn’t have gone home on foot, the Boxton mansion wasn’t anywhere close to the palace.
Merek grew worried as he continued to search for her around the streets, but still she was no where. His footsteps eventually stopped when he came across an old man carrying a sack of grain on his shoulders, he asked,
"Excuse me, have you by any chance seen a lady in a brown dress and..." He described to the man what Anne looked like, and the old man paused to think for awhile before he quickly nodded, "Yes, I did see her going towards the midnight snake streets."
Merek’s expression darkened immediately hearing she went towards that street. The midnight snake street was not a safe place for any elites to walk to at that time of the night. It was given that name for a reason. He didn’t waste anymore time with the man and ran towards the direction, however when he got there, there was not a single soul in sight. Frustration built in his chest along with dread of the worse, then his eyes fell on a bracelet laying on the ground.
Merek picked it up, worried lines form on his forehead when he recognized it to be Anne’s bracelet.
"Darn it!" Those bastards took her! All sense of reason suddenly rushed out of him, and all he saw was red at the thought of Anne being in the hands of the midnight snake gangs.
Den, who had followed Merek when he ran after Anne, finally caught up to him, it had taken him awhile to catch up because of Merek’s speed. Moreover, Den was too big to run that fast.
He heaved for air as he asked, "Have you found the lady?"
"She has been taken by those goons on these street."
Den frowned, "That’s isn’t good, Merek. You know what those men could do to the lady."
Of course he knew, they might rape her, or even kill her then trick her family for ransom. That was how those gangs worked for years. Even though the crown Prince had killed the first set of the midnight snake gangs, years later another men rebuilt the gang and started to operate underground. However, Merek was familiar with the leader of the new gang, because they’d been to the same assassins guild years ago.
’That son of a cow!’
"Where are you going?" Den asked when Merek started to walk away.
"To bring her back."
"I don’t think you should do this alone, it’ll would be best to inform his highness and get the troops to trace their establishment." Den suggested.
"I have no time to waste, I know their establishment. His Highness doesn’t have to know about this, I will bring her back myself." He couldn’t stay or go back to waste anymore time when Anne could be in danger in the hands of those goons. He wanted to see her safe as soon as possible.
Merek recalled the night he’d somehow ended up in her bathroom in the palace. And Anne had taken off her dress to deter the soldiers looking for him. He had later found all the men who had seen her naked body and killed them one by one. At that time, he’d convinced himself by saying he’d simply done that as a payment for saving him.
But now, his heart burned too fiercely to make up any excuses that Anne’s importance rested on the fact that she was Hamon’s sister-in-law. His throat tightened, he was afraid that the gangs might have done something to her. Ever since he’d left her that night in the Boxton mansion, he had been suffering from the pain of a clenching ache in his heart every night.
And now was a peak of that anguish, it throbbed and rushed tempestuously to his heart. ’She has to be safe, Anne has to be safe, or else...’ at that moment, Merek’s black orbs clouded with darkness. He would kill any man who dared lay a finger on his Anne tonight!
Without another word to Den, Merek left in a speed of light.
Den’s mouth opened without realizing it. He knew Merek’s skills were incredible, but it was the first time he’d seen him run this fast. Moreover, this furious,
"He will surely slay the midnight snake gangs tonight."
