Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 219: Hold me for awhile
Chapter 219: Hold me for awhile
Ara somehow managed to return to their chamber, the pain in her chest worsened with each step she took. However, when she reached their chamber she ordered all the servants to leave her alone and shut the door.
Soon, Hamon who was in his study with Oliver was informed about his wife, and without wasting anymore time he ran straight towards their room, but then spotted Emma who worriedly stood outside the door with a few other servants,
"What in heaven’s name happened to my wife?"
Emma gave a troubled glance towards the door, "I have no idea, she met with Sire Merek and lady Anne in the courtyard earlier, but it seemed something happened between them."
"Is that so. You may all leave."
All the servants bowed nervously, "Yes, your highness."
After they left, Hamon opened the door and entered the room, however he was met with complete darkness. All the lamps were turned off. His wife had never done this before, and it made his worry grow,
"My wife..." before he could say anymore, he suddenly heard a faint sob. His footsteps stopped, on the bed was Ara laying with the blanket covering her head completely. He hurried towards her on the bed, "What’s wrong, wife? Why are you here?" He asked as he carefully pulled away the blanket from her head, revealing her tear stained cheeks. Her eyes looked swollen and red as if she’d been crying for awhile now.
"Ara..." His heart sank at her state and he couldn’t bring himself to say anything and her tears continued to stream down her eyes. She bit her lips to hold back the sobs, but it was a useless effort.
She glanced at him, "Hamon, I...I." Ara couldn’t even form a word properly with her sobs. And she couldn’t bring herself to tell him how she felt at the moment.
Anne had always supported her when their father would scold her, and she was always there for her when Henry was absent. Anne was the pillar that supported her through all this years, but she’d never done the same for her in return, because she was too scared to lose her sister. Not only did she not stand by her when Anne needed her the most, but she’d pushed her to tears today, she hurt her own sister.
"My wife, what’s wrong? Tell me." He prompted her to speak her mind out. She swallowed the lump in her throat and said, "I...I am the most selfish person. I never once sat and asked my sister what she wanted, or what is in her heart, she..."
Hamon held her face in both his hands and wiped away her tears with his thumb, "Selfish? Ha, I don’t think so. You are in no way close to selfish."
"I am, Hamon. All I think about is how to protect her from danger, but I was never there when she needed me..."
"Wife..."
"Our mother passed away after giving birth to Anne, I was the one to raise her, I was like a mother to her right from my childhood, even before I knew how to properly take care of myself... She had always brought me comfort whenever I needed it, but I forced my opinion on her because I wanted to make sure she took the right path for her heart. And now, thinking about it makes me feel like the worst sister on earth."
It was already enough for Anne to go through the pain of Merek’s rejection by herself, but Ara had also tried to stop her instead of comforting her.
Seeing his wife in such a state made his blood boil internally, but he didn’t show it and stared at her crying form. He could no longer take it anymore and immediately wrapped his arms around her in a hug. He gently rubbed her back soothingly with his palm, "Shh, whatever it is, don’t blame yourself for it. Everyone knows how much you love and care for Anne. You didn’t do anything wrong."
Ara buried her face in his chest as she said, "You are only saying this because am your wife, but in truth I am selfish."
He stroked her hair, "You need to know the definition of selfish, my wife. You’ve done nothing wrong but always want the best for Anne, Just because things went wrong doesn’t make it your fault."
"Hamon..." She cried even more wetting his white shirt with her tears. He continued to rub her back, "I know how much you care about your family. And everything you did was always for them. So please don’t blame it on yourself anymore."
Ara nodded in his embrace, she needed to fix it instead of crying. She settled herself comfortably in his arms, and murmured to him in a soft voice, "I am sorry am a mess...I must look foolish right now."
Hamon chuckled softly, "Not at all, my wife. I am here for you."
Ara felt a little relief from the sadness that shook her body earlier. Her husband’s presence was all she needed to be fine, he was comfortable like a warm fire in winter.
"Thank you..."
After awhile, Ara’s tears stopped. Hamon looked down at her calmer form, "You know, I am the selfish person when it comes to you."
"Huh?"
"You are mine only, my wife. And yet you cry like this for someone else other than me."
"I...I couldn’t help it. Anne is important to me."
"...But I want to be the only one in your mind."
Ara, who still had tears clinging to her cheeks, replied with a smile, "Is my husband jealous?"
"Very much...But then it’s alright since it’s for my sister-in-law." His hand carefully stroked her cheek as he said, "You don’t have to shoulder everything by yourself, wife. Remember you have me now, and I will gladly shoulder all your burden. If you want to protect your family, let me do it for you, and if you want to reconcile with Anne, let me help you. I am your husband and I will do anything in this world for you."
"...Hamon." Her eyes moistened again, and more tears began to roll down her cheeks.
"I have never had someone to care for but you, my wife. I want to make you happy, to always see you smiling warmly, because you are the love of my life." Hamon’s hand which was on her cheek slowly slipped down her neck and tenderly caressed it.
"Hamon...The feeling of being loved by someone is still new to me, I want to also make you happy, but I don’t know how." She admitted.
Hamon smiled, "I am already happy having you in my life." He said, "I am doing my best and repressing my dark side for you, so..." His long fingers touched the trace of her tears, "Don’t cry anymore or else I might feel the urge to hurt someone."
Ara tipped her head upwards and rested her forehead on his. She understood the earnest desire he had for her, and she felt it with the same intensity. In a way she wanted to give herself to him completely, to let him have her whole. But deep down she was scared of something even she wasn’t sure about...
But soon she knew she’d have to overcome that fear. With the tears still on her cheeks, she smiled then leaned down and kissed the side of his mouth, "With you by my side, I don’t think I’ll ever have any reasons to cry again." She murmured, then gently rested her head on his chest, "Hamon, please hold me for awhile before dinner."
Hamon smiled, "My pleasure, wife." With that, he cuddled her in his arms and they both lay back on the bed giving each other comfort without a need for another word.
