Chapter 221: I’m here now, don’t cry...

Anne eventually regained consciousness, she tried to move, but felt something restricting her movement. She opened her heavy eyelids, but was met with an unfamiliar place. Anne frowned as she recalled how someone had covered her head with a sack, and after that she’d lost consciousness.

Anne managed to sit up from the hard cold floor and leaned against the cracked wall. She had no idea where she was, the room was dim and was lit only with a small lamp hanging on the wall next to the large rusty door that looked like it been there for ages. There was a strange foul smell in the air as if something had died in here. She couldn’t help but want to cover her nose, however her hands were bound behind her back with a thick rope attached to the wall restricting her movement.

She suddenly heard faint voices coming from outside the rusty iron door. She stopped trying to move and focused on the voices instead,

"Boss, the lady is still unconscious, but she really is a beauty. I would like to take her after you."

"Hmm, after I’m done enjoying her, You can all have her. And afterwards send a letter to her family asking for the ransom, if they refuse to bring it before the night falls tomorrow...we kill her and send her body to them instead."

Anne who was listening to their conversation felt fear crept up her spine. How did she get herself into such a big mess? What had she done, she shouldn’t have run out of the palace like that. How was she going to get out of this now? They’d use her and take ransom from her family...

At that moment, Anne regretted leaving her sister. She shouldn’t have said those words to Ara. Her sister had been like her a mother to her through out all her years. All Ara wanted was the best for her, but now... what if they killed her, does that mean she wouldn’t be able to see her family again?

And Merek...

Maybe Ara was right, she’d loved him, but in return he never saw her as a woman nor cared about her. The first time she met him, all she wanted was to play detective chasing the thief, but after she saw how badly beaten he looked the night he snuck into her bathroom window at the palace, she felt sorry for him and felt the urge to protect him.

For her, he was a servant who’d done wrong in the past and needed someone’s protection. Although, he had refused to accept her affection, but she still took care of him in her own way regardless of his cold nature.

At some point, she became happy taking care of him that she couldn’t stop, she made sure he had regular meals at the Boxton mansion. No matter how he distanced himself from her, she still thought he needed constant attention, so he wouldn’t feel lonely and go back to stealing. All she wanted was to make him happy.

After he knocked her out that night and left, she’d thought he had gone back to his old job of stealing and might have been in some danger. Ha, she was sick of her naivety, and the fact that she still cared for someone who didn’t so much as to stand by her when she was being scolded by her sister. It was more heartbreaking at the realization that all her love and good intentions were a burden to Merek.

Anne’s eyes burned with hot tears again. She couldn’t help but feel angry at herself. Why was she crying for him? Merek had no interest in her, if she hadn’t pursued him from the start, he wouldn’t have even noticed her to begin with. And yet, she felt so happy being with him that she could give up everything for him.

The tears rolled down her cheeks blurring her vision. Now she was trapped in who knows where with some men who were planning to rape her. She’d put herself in such a situation because of her stupidity.

Ara’s words echoed in her head again.

_’Anne, Are you an idiot? Why would you desire someone who doesn’t seem to care about you?!’

_’I said stop crying Annette! Can’t you see how he doesn’t care about you? You shouldn’t cry over a man like him!’

Her sister was right, she was such an idiot crying over a man like Merek. She bit her lips and swallowed back her tears. She refused to cry for him again, but...Why does she still want to see him again so badly?

As Anne was lost in her sorrows, the rusty door suddenly opened, and two men walked in. She glanced at them with fear as she continued to struggle with the rope, but her efforts were futile.

The men laughed at her effort to come lose.

"I can see the sleeping beauty is finally awake." Said one of the men holding a small dagger in his hand.

"Who are you? What do you want from me?" She questioned, mustering up all her courage so she wouldn’t look weak to them. "Do you know who I am? My father and brother will kill you if you lay a hand on me."

The men didn’t even flinch at her words and only laughed even more. The one who seemed like their leader began to approach her, "I don’t care who you are, beauty. All I know is I will have you tonight."

"My brother will kill you_ha!"

"You are a tough one, aren’t you? Trying to scare me, huh?" He said roughly grabbing her face in his rough hand, "I like tough women, but you know what? I dislike rich people."

Anne tried to draw back from his hold on her face, but the man only smiled crookedly and slowly let go of her face, letting his hand trailed down to her neck. She’d never felt this disgusted in her entire life, she felt the urge to poke out his eyes with the way he was looking at her.

"Please...No, please let me go." She pleaded this time as his hand began to go down to her breast. She knew what he wanted to do with her, she could see the lustful gaze he was giving her.

The man licked his lips in a lecherous manner as his hand made circle on her breast. Anne screamed inside, but nothing came of her mouth, tears filled her eyes as he suddenly squeezed her breast in his hand.

"Aww, she’s crying even before I start. Don’t cry, I will go easy on you, my dear. Now relax let me take care of you."

Anne felt the urge to spit on his face with how disgusted she felt. No man had ever touched her this way, and it repulsed her to no end. She squeezed her eyes shut as he used the small dagger in his hand to rip her dress from the shoulder.

’Merek, please help me, Merek!’ Why was she even calling him out of everybody? Why would he come to save her from these lecherous men? She would never be able to live with herself if she lost her innocence to these dangerous men.

Merek...

Clang!

Suddenly there was the sound of a sword and terrified loud screams from outside the door, making the man stop and jerk his head towards the door.

"Please don’t kill me_Ahh!" Came a voice from outside.

"You, go and check what is going on outside." He said to the other man standing beside the door. However he didn’t leave Anne alone and continued from where he stopped, but this time Anne tried to fight back,

"You bastard! Let me go!" She kicked him with her legs, but the man soon recovered and held her legs together, "You want me to do it the hard way, so be it, I will teach you a lesson bitch!" He said as he tried to part her legs apart but she clasped them together.

Even with the sound of a sword cutting through flesh and bones filled the air, the lecher didn’t go and check what was going on and was trying to have his way with her. Her heart pounded rapidly against her rib cage as he successfully parted her legs.

"Please, don’t! Help me!" She cried out loudly so whoever it was fighting outside would come and save her.

Bang!

The rusty door burst open with a loud bang making the man quickly rise to his feet with disapproval on his face. Before he could even bark at the person who interrupted him, his head was ripped off his neck. It rolled on the floor until it hit the wall, and his body fell cold to the floor with blood oozing out of his neck.

Anne’s eyes widened as she watched the body shaking until it stopped moving. Her heart almost leapt out of her chest at the sight in front of her. She slowly glanced towards the person who’d come in_

Merek.

However, the Merek standing before her looked completely different from the one she knew. The sword in his hand dripped dark red blood, and his clothes were stained, his expression, murderous. He was like the image of a bloodied devil from hell.

Anne sat frozen as she stared at him, he began to approach her, his face splattered with blood. She instinctively moved away from him before she even realized it, and he stopped in his tracks.

He wouldn’t hurt her, she thought. Then looked back at him, he took another step towards her, and when she didn’t move back this time, he approached her and untied her hands without a word.

However, the moment he untied her, without thinking she rose up and wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her face in his chest as she sobbed, "Merek...You came. This man...He touched me inappropriately, he almost...I...Merek." She burst into a fit of tears as she tightened her hold on his waist. Not caring that she’d just seen him rip off someone’s head or about the blood on his shirt.

Merek’s hands balled up into a tight fist hearing her words. Rage stirred up inside him at the thought of a man touching Anne. How dared they! He should have made the bastard’s death more painful before ripping his head off. He felt the wetness of her tears on his chest, making his heart sting. And for the first time ever, Merek raised his hands and hugged her back. He gently stroked her back soothingly, "It’s alright, he’s dead now. I am sorry I came a bit late. Don’t cry." That only made her cry even more, making Merek more confused of how to console her.

"Merek..." She cried.

He gently patted her back, "Hmm, am here now, please don’t cry anymore."
