Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 188: Returning from the dead

Chapter 188: Returning from the dead

The downpour continued heavily like there would be no stopping. Lightning strikes brightly followed by earth shaking thunder sounds. While in the queen’s residence, Merona’s mood soured as she had been eagerly awaiting the news of the crown Prince and his wife’s death. It was past midnight, but there was no news yet. Moreover, it had been pouring heavily outside for hours now. It had been also hours since Favian had left to go and check on the situation.

Hera, who stood on one side noticed how the queen had been glancing towards the entrance every now and then, she spoke, "Your majesty, don’t worry. I have sent two of your men to go and check the situation, they must be on their way back by now."

"..." Merona did not reply. As it seemed now, a delay likely meant that their assassination attempt wasn’t successfully. She couldn’t figure out why yet, but with all the forces Favian had sent, and her own additional well trained men; the chances of such failure were thin. Nevertheless, whatever the outcome of the situation was, there should have been a feed back by now.

’What in the name of hell was taking those cows this long?!’

There was no way that bastard could get out of such a situation without his guards. The couple had foolishly went to their outing without taking any guards, unless the assassins ambush was leaked beforehand, if not, it would be impossible for Hamon or his wife to survive!

’Unless he teleported, which I know is impossible without the moon...’

The atmosphere in the room turned ugly as the time seemed to pass by with no signs of any of her guards coming to report. Just when she was about to tell Hera to send another guard_

BANG!

The door to her chamber flew open with a loud sound as it hit the walls behind the double doors. In came Edwin, her brother who had secretly decided to follow behind the assassins so he wouldn’t miss seeing the crown Prince’s death. He stormed inside looking like an angry bull,

"Sister!" He called, and Merona raised a brow, "What is it? What happened? It must be bad seeing you came to report instead of sending the guard."

"Very bad...The men you sent and Favian’s are..." He paused, but when his sister give him a questioning look, he shouted angrily, "They are all dead!"

"What?"

He continued, "I didn’t follow them to go and assassinate the couple, but I stood on a bridge when I saw the forest they chased the crown Prince to was suddenly on fire, and I heard screams, so I thought to go and check it out...but I found the place ruined, all of them were dead, some were even burned alive, while some were cut limb by limb...I saw the gruesome sight with my own eyes."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean the men are all wiped out, both yours and marquis Favian’s!"

Merona was stunned beyond words. Failure was possible, yes, but a complete massacre? That wasn’t possible! No matter if Hamon’s men arrived to fight the assassins. It didn’t make sense how they would all die!

Edwin continued, "I stood on the bridge to wait for the good news, but I noticed the crown Prince’s men arrived as well, but I’m sure they didn’t kill all those men..."

THUD!

Merona angrily threw a small vase against the wall, it’s fragment scattered around the floor making Hera and her brother flinch, "How in hell’s name is that possible?"

"I don’t know, but seeing how the bodies were burned and even torn apart with claws of a beast, it could possibly mean one thing..." He trailed off, then continued, "I think he must have transformed..."

Merona’s eyebrows furrowed, "Even though he transformed, he shouldn’t have the strength nor the ability to kill them all and even burn down the forest like you said."

"Sister, we shouldn’t underestimate that monster of a Prince. The blood in his body isn’t human, till now we do not know what kind of powers he fully possesses." He admitted, then added in anger, "All this was all Margaret’s fault, his witch of a mother! She gave him such powers somehow!"

Merona was quiet for some moment before she said, "I know Margaret did something to her son for him to be born a monster, but then I thought he only transformed when the moon is visible...how did he do it without the moon this time?"

She looked on in displeasure. As the king’s wife, she knew the crown Prince’s mother had done something to her son to make him a monster with some sort of extraordinary powers; which was one of the reasons he’d survived all this years and cheated death itself several times before. If he was an ordinary being, he would have died long ago when he was still a baby.

Merona had thought of all these outcomes, which was why she’d sent the most skilled and trained assassins. And while Hamon was a monster, he couldn’t use his powers without the moon; then how could he possibly kill them all? She couldn’t easily accept their failure in killing him once again.

"Something must have happened at the scene...is there not even one survivor?"

Edwin shook his head, "None survived the massacre, except some of his men who fled."

Merona’s frown deepened, "I don’t care how you will do it, but find someone who witnessed everything, even if it means buying off one of Hamon’s men. Something must have happened, and I want to know exactly what..."

"Don’t worry, sister. I will take care of everything." He assured confidently. Only then did Merona’s nerves slowly calmed down and she slightly relaxed back on the sofa. After this catastrophic failure, it was more likely she would be tracked to this. Now, it was time to cover her trails with marquis Favian,

"Edwin, I want you to get rid of any evidence of any of our connections in this association. Make sure everything falls and leads to Favian."

"Of course, sister, I have already began arranging that."

Merona nodded, then massaged her aching temple, "You have to make sure nothing leads to us, and make sure to get the information about what happened in the forest. Don’t fail this again."

Edwin gave a deep bow, "I will not, sister. Everything will lead to Favian."

---

She had gone through hell on earth, she was unflinching in the face of death in her previous life. The only reason she lived was to avenge her family. The death of her siblings and father had been her worst nightmare. Whenever she closed her eyes; the night her family were wiped out would always hunt her, she was unable to save her sister nor her brother.

Ara did not want to experience the grief of losing her family again. It was hell, she wouldn’t want it twice, she’d sworn to die before her family no matter what. Perhaps, her death by the poisonous arrows was the ending she’d been hoping for. She wouldn’t want to watch them die again in her presence. Maybe, because the future could never be changed.

Maybe, that was why the heavens took her first, but how could she leave the living world with the thought of someone else wanting her back?

Hamon...

His red eyes, she still remembered his desiring expression, the broken look before she died, it was as if he had lost the whole world. If the heavens did not grant her another chance to live...She worried that he would spend the rest of his life in sorrow. She didn’t want that, she wanted to go back for him. She wanted to stay with him a little longer if she could. She wanted to make him happy, and be happy by his side. She didn’t want to part from him yet.

She had to go back!

As Ara grew more desperate for life, her soul wandered around in the cloudy place she’d found herself in. She ran around until suddenly, she felt something like a rush of wind pull her down with force, making everything suddenly go blank at once, then came a severe pain that shot through her chest. It was so severe that a faint moan came out of her mouth.

She tried to open her eyes, but she couldn’t because they felt too heavy and stiff. However, she suddenly began to hear voices. Did the heavens grant her another chance to live? Was she back to live or was it her delusions? But those voices...

She suddenly heard the voice she’d been longing to hear for who knows how long she’d been in that cloudy place.

"My wife is breathing! She has a beating pulse now...But it looks like she’s in pain!" It was Hamon’s voice, she could clearly hear the terror in his voice, but then she heard another voice that sounded terrified...And was trembling.

"Y-your Highness, it-it is normal for her to be in pain with such wounds...it’s a miracle that she suddenly has a beating pulse, but i- I am trying my best_"

"Trying your best?! Do you want to die next?!"

"No, no."

"Then do your damn job properly before I add you to my collection of incompetent physicians!"

Oliver’s voice came next, but he seemed to be standing behind, "Calm down, Your Highness. The physician has been doing his best to treat the wounds since morning...And it is a miracle that the crown princess survived such deadly poisonous arrows...you’ve killed enough physicians already..."

"You better stay out of this, Oliver and let me do it my own bloody way!"

Did he kill the physicians who couldn’t treat her? She thought. The atmosphere in the room was so tense that even Ara could feel Hamon’s angry energy reaching her. She wanted to see him, and assure him she was alright.

The ice-cold atmosphere immediately shattered when Ara forced her lips to move, "H-Hamon..."

She couldn’t open her eyes, but she felt someone grab her right hand, and she could tell it was Hamon, "Ara...please don’t leave me again, hold on, the pain, It will stop in a while." His voice sounded hoarse, but his tone was desperate, "It will only hurt for now, I will make it go away. Hold on."

She wanted to open her eyes and look at his face, but she still couldn’t do it, all she felt was the sharp agonizing pain in her chest, it was as if her chest was being pierced by a thousand needles, she could no longer hold on with such pain,

"Ahhh!" As her agonizing screams became louder,

"Damn it! She’s not supposed to be hurting like this! Do something about it, physician, before I bloody finish you and your entire bloodline!" She could hear Hamon’s panicking voice in front of her, it was as if he was the one hurting. She really wanted to assure him not to worry too much, but the darkness drew her in again. Everything went completely silent.
