Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 189: Regained consciousness
Chapter 189: Regained consciousness
Ara had been unconscious for days now, whenever she tried to open her eyes, the piercing pain in her chest would intensify and it would make her black out again. It happened a couple of times, however during all those moments when she had been trying to wake up, she vaguely registered Hamon’s firm grip on her hand. She didn’t have to open her eyes to know that he’d remained steadfast by her side through every moment. It always seemed to soothe her heart knowing he was by her side the entire time, even if she couldn’t see his face.
This time as Ara regained consciousness again, she still felt his tight grip on her right hand, and she struggled to open her heavy eyelids, her eyes felt too stiff, however the pain in her chest was almost nonexistent now for some reason, all she felt was soreness and no more of that agonizing pain she’d felt the last time. She blinked a few times to clear her foggy vision, but the first thing that met her eyes was...
Her husband. He was sitting on a chair on the bedside with his head resting on the edge of the bed. She gazed at his sleeping profile for some minutes, he was still holding her hand tightly as if, if he were to let go, she would disappear. It seemed like he had been by her side all this time...
Warmth filled her heart as she silently gazed at him. Ara had no idea how long she’d been unconscious. And another thought had been bothering her; how did she end up surviving such a fatal injury? Apart from the fact that the arrows that hit her contained poison, it had targeted a crucial part, her heart, because of that the poison didn’t even need time to spread and she thought she died on the spot, she had been reluctant of leaving Hamon behind. Or perhaps it was really fate that brought her back after all, she had cheated death once before, but she still couldn’t get rid of the nagging feeling that something just wasn’t right.
She glanced down at the sleeping Hamon. During all those moments she first woke up to the terrible pain, she knew that he’d been holding her hand the whole time, but why does he look like this?
Ara’s eyebrows furrowed noticing how different Hamon looked. He looked thinner as if he hadn’t been eating or resting properly, under his eyes, were dark circles. Moreover, his skin looked somewhat dull than the last time she’d seen him, even his usual smooth-satin-like sliver hair looked as if it hadn’t come in any contact with a comb. He looked like an abandoned child sleeping like this. She suddenly felt a tight squeeze in her heart seeing him like this.
What had he gone through these past few days for him to look like this? He looked peaceful sleeping this way, but she wondered if such a position was even comfortable for him...
Ara slowly raised her hand and gently stroked his sliver hair, however his eyes immediately flew open at her touch, his red eyes bored into her green ones. He stared at her as if he couldn’t believe she was finally awake.
Hamon didn’t so much as blink for the fear that she might leave him again. Was he dreaming? She was back...His wife was back!
When he didn’t move or speak and only stared at her, Ara offered him a weak smile, "Why did you fall asleep in such an uncomfortable position?" She asked causally as if nothing had happened, as if she hadn’t died, however Hamon seemed to look almost afraid to shake from his position, fearing this moment was a dream and she might disappear.
"Hamon?" She called softly, only then did he finally speak his voice trembled, "A...rabella?"
"Hmm?" She hummed, "I hope I didn’t worry you too much?" She smiled, but Hamon leapt up from his seat and cupped her cheeks as he examined her, "Are you still feeling anymore pain? Does your chest still hurt?"
Ara shook her head, "No...surprisingly All I feel now is just a little pain, like a small cut, but it’s bearable." She assured, but Hamon didn’t look or seem at all convinced by her answers. His eyebrows snapped together, the wish had only brought her back, but hadn’t completely healed her wounds. Nevertheless, her wounds were healing faster than it should, but Hamon didn’t want his wife to go through anymore pain again.
"I’ll be right back." He said as he stood up and made to the door. Ara watched as he roughly pushed it open, she could make out the sounds of people quickly getting up from their seats in the corridor, then came Hamon’s loud voice,
"My wife just woke up, she’s in pain, come inside and check her condition immediately!"
The people outside chorused at the same time, "Yes, Your Highness!"
Lines were quick to form on Ara’s forehead as seven physicians entered the room and gathered around the bed to inspect her condition one by one. However, they all looked frightened as if they’d faint anytime soon.
Ara had a feeling that something had happened while she was unconscious. She thought she’d ask Hamon after her treatment, but immediately the physicians examined her wounds and gave her some medicines, she couldn’t keep her eyes open again and fell asleep.
A week later after Ara had regained consciousness, her condition improved. At first she had been unable to stay awake for long because of the medicines administered to her, but today, the pain and the headache that had been bothering her since the day she finally regained consciousness, were all gone.
Ara watched as the physician inspected her wounds, he was one of the physicians who seemed to always frighteningly asked about her health, but today he spoke with a bright normal voice, "Do you still feel any pain, Your Highness?"
"No, I feel fine now."
He nodded, "Very well. Heavens has given us a miracle. Nothing like this has ever happened before...you had no beating pulses at first, but it was magical how you suddenly woke up..."
Ara also thought the same, she was sure that would be her death, it was really magical how she came back to life. Those arrows were aimed to take Hamon’s life, the poison on them were deadly, but she survived it. It was really a miracle.
The physician continued, "I couldn’t believe my eyes at first... Even the crown Prince had gone as far as to_"
Ara had her dress down to her waist, and only a thin cloth was covering her breasts so the physician could treat her wounds, and the bed drapery was let down, so she couldn’t see outside, but she heard Hamon’s voice from behind the drapery interrupt the old physician’s words,
"Are you going to get it over with or continue to blabber nonsense? If you’re done with the treatment, scram away from there and let my wife rest."
Ara’s condition was stable, but Hamon had remained by her side every moment he could. However, he had gone out to check on something earlier, and she hadn’t noticed his return to the room. His sudden interruption seemed to have also surprised the physician, whose face had immediately turned pale and his fingertips began to tremble, he looked as if there was a sword placed on his neck.
She couldn’t help but ask, "Are you alright?"
"Y-yes, Your Highness. I will be done with this in no time."
Strangely, all the physicians who were treating her seemed frightened of Hamon, this physician had been conversing with her normally, until he heard his voice. Something must have really happened while she was unconscious. Her curiosity peeked, but she was sure no one would explain properly if she asked them anyway.
The physician quickly closed his medicines box, and wrapped fresh bandages around her chest, he then helped her draw up her nightdress and pulled the drapery open. The moment he drew the curtain, what met his eyes were Hamon’s pair of cold deadly red eyes, which startled him out of his wit. He almost dropped the box in his hand when Hamon asked,
"How is my wife’s wounds?"
The physician hurriedly reported, "There has been no infections what so ever, the wounds are healing really faster than any arrow wound, but there is one thing though...It seems the wounds will leave scars on her chest..."
Hamon’s eyebrows knitted together at this piece of news, wasn’t it supposed to get rid of the scars all together? He thought, but the frightened physician, sensing Hamon’s darkened mood, he began to tremble worse than before. Would he be the next to die just like the bodies of the well-known physicians the crown Prince had killed? Heavens help him today from this demon of a Prince! He prayed in his mind, but Hamon glared at the trembling man,
"Why are you still standing here? Get out."
"Thank you! Thank you!" The physician did not wait to be told twice, he hurriedly bowed as relief washed over him and raced out of the room as if he was being chased by someone.
