Chapter 187: Awoken demon (part 3)
’Without Arabella...Hamon is nothing.’
’Die? How will you die when I’ll be here to bring you back? Not even death can take you away from me, wife.’
’If anything happens to you...I will ruin the entire world!’
Memories of his words to his wife began to echo in his head, then images of her smiling face. And what she said earlier.
’If you tell me to split up with you again, I’ll get very mad at you. And I won’t allow you hold me to sleep tonight!’
’Hamon, I’ll be dead before I leave your side, I am your wife and once your soldier, I am not a coward. I am staying by your side!’
Hamon sat frozen on the cold forest ground as he held Ara’s dead body in his arms. There was no longer any signs of tears in his eyes, all that was left was a pair of soulless eyes. He slowly glanced down at her pale lifeless face, the reality began to sink to his mind. His wife was dead, Ara was dead... She died saving him, taking the arrows meant for him.
As those thoughts went through his mind, his face slowly began to darken, like cloudy storms of an incoming typhoon that could tear the skies and the earth apart, gradually his forearms veins started to turn purple and it spread to his neck veins and forehead. He pulled away from Ara’s body and stood to his feet. Eyes as red as blood, claws long and sharp grew pierced through his fingers cutting his skin, but he didn’t so much as flinch as the blood dripped from them. Purple dark veins appeared on his face as his sharp fangs peeked out of his clenched lips.
There the Demon stood with flames blazing in his hands, it looked nothing like Hamon. Just his soulless eyes were enough to make one crawl away in fright.
As Oliver led the soldiers to fight off the assassins, sounds of swords clashing against another filled the forest until,
"Roooaaarr!!!" A bone chilling roar filled the air, all heads turned to the direction of where the sound came from. There came a shadowy figure approaching, his presence sent chills down their spines. His blazing red eyes darker than the deepest shade of blood glowed in the dark night.
"W-what is that?"
"Oh my Lord! It’s a monster!"
"Kill it immediately!"
The assassins and the crown Prince’s soldiers began to panic at the sight of it. However, Oliver knew exactly who it was, his expression turned grave. They’d awoken the beast! This was bad.
Oliver yelled to the soldiers, "Retreat! Retreat immediately!" He yelled, but it was too late, the crown Prince had began to attack not caring if they were his soldiers or the assassins. Bodies began to fall from different directions, as the forest caught fire out of no where. He saw as the crown Prince’s or rather, the demon’s long sharp claws slashed throats, effortlessly ripping out a person’s live beating heart out of their chests.
Oliver’s eyes widened as he saw how he killed his own soldiers, he was attacking in a speed like that of lightning, swiftly ripping off their heads with his claws and fangs, his movements were too fast for him to even keep track of who he’d attack next until the head separated from the neck. Bodies upon bodies kept falling dead to the ground as he moved between the assassins and his soldiers.
The fire began to spread through out the forest making Oliver see the hideous appearance of the crown Prince. He caught a glimpse of how he dug his long claws into one of the assassins throat and ripped off the head. Blood dripping down the claws, screams filled the entire forest as he burned them alive. The sight was terrifyingly spine chilling.
Oliver couldn’t help but think; Could it be that something happened to the crown princess? He’d known the crown Prince since their childhood, he never transformed for no reasons.
Oliver yelled again, "Soldiers retreat back immediately!" Hopefully, this time the remaining soldiers listened to him and began to retreat back, they all ran out of the forest not wasting anytime.
Soon, the forest that was earlier filled with screams turned dead silent with only sound of the woods burning. However in the heart of the forest was Hamon kneeling with his head down in the middle of the fire, small groans coming from him, he hadn’t turned back to normal but his senses gradually returned to him.
Ara was dead... She was dead... His blazing eyes that seemed aflamed reflecting the fire that was slowly destroying the forest, woods snapped and trees fell, but the dead hopelessness reappeared replacing the bloodlust that had filled his eyes from killing every moving being around, as the memories flashed continuously in his head, how dark his life had been in their previous lifetime, their first meeting in Greenwood, how she’d slowly slipped into his heart giving him the hope and desire to live, how she had reappeared in this lifetime and proposed to him, and every waking moment after that.
’I am sorry, we never got to have our children...’ ’I... I love...’ The last words she’d spoken echoed in his mind, the soft sad smile on her face before she fell still in his arms,
"Aaah!!!" A pain filled cry resounded in the burning forest, and the skies rumbled in response as a furious downpour descended the earth as if to extinguish the burning flames of the raging demon before it would burn down the whole world along with his pain.
The pain... it was too much, his life had been cold, dark, and empty once before but it was nothing compared to the pain of watching her die, if he were to die a thousand deaths, it wouldn’t compare to the pain he was currently in.
The burning rage awoke once again, his flames soared as if fuelled by his rage immune from the downpour of the heavens. If she was gone... then no one could live.
Hamon slowly got on his feet, his lifeless eyes held one thing, kill... every being that moves, if one were to look closely at him, they wouldn’t see the always nonchalant crown Prince Hamon who always had mischief dancing in his alluring red eyes, but a bloodthirsty demon awoken to annihilate every living being.
’Hamon...’
He’d taken a single step when her lovely soft voice rang in his head from every moment she called his name, he paused.
’Hamon...’
’Not even death can take you away from me, You can’t die, because I’ll always be here to bring you back.’
Something seemed to suddenly awaken within his dead and blank eyes, He’d promised to bring her back no matter what would happen to her, he’d vowed that even death couldn’t take her away from him!
There was still a chance... There could still be a chance...
A subtle light seemed to flash in his dead eyes as Hamon rose up and easily crossed the burning flames that surrounded him as he strode to his wife’s body laying cold on the forest ground. He gathered her in his arms while trying to avoid looking down at her lifeless face, he refused to believe she was no more, and he refused to see her in such condition.
This time even without the presence of the moon, Hamon easily teleported to his residence, he carefully laid her down on their bed before he fleetly pulled out the arrows stuck to her chest.
"Don’t worry, My wife. You will get better soon...let me go and bring the royal physician to treat your wounds, don’t move, I’ll be right back." His voice was gentle and husky and he’d fully changed back to his normal form, he pressed his lips on her forehead and tucked her body under the blanket as if she was sleeping. Believing in his delusion that she wasn’t gone but only injured which he’d get someone to treat.
Hamon teleported and soon came back with the royal physician who looked like he’d pass out anytime soon from what he’d just experienced. Moreover, without giving him the time to think about what had just happened, the crown Prince pulled him to the bed,
"Here she is, I want you to treat her wounds and make her wake up tonight."
The physician was taken aback seeing the sheet covered in so much blood. With his hands slightly trembling he checked her pulse and discovered she had no beating pulse.
The middle-aged man turned towards Hamon who was hovering around behind him, he swallowed hard, "Your Highness...She-she has no pulse...am sorry there is nothing I can do, she is dea_" before the man could complete his words, Hamon had used his claws to slash his throat and his body fell slacked on the floor.
"My wife is not dead!" He said through clenched teeth as he looked down at the physician’s body.
Few minutes later, one side of the crown Prince’s chamber were four bodies of dead physicians he’d brought to check on his wife, but ended dead by telling him she was no more. How could he believe them? She was the only person he’d ever cared about in the world. Beside Ara, he had no one who cared for him. His mother was dead, while his father was like a puppet to his wife, the kingdom itself disregarded him. And now, the only person he cared about was no more...
Hamon dragged his feet to the bedside, he glanced down at her face. He then slowly sat on the edge of the bed and lay his head on her chest, "Why? Why did you take the arrows meant for me?" His heart squeezed as the reality of her death began to creep to him.
"Ara...haven’t I told you, without you I have nothing in this world to live for? But yet, You carelessly jumped in front of me to take the hit...why?" Tears filled his eyes as he spoke, the pain he felt in his heart was indispensable. He felt his throat clenched tightly as he tried to hold back the tears, but it rolled down uncontrollable.
Silent sobs slipped his lips as he hugged the body, "Ara...please wake up, You haven’t told me what you wanted to say before...please..."
"I don’t mind if everything is taken away from me, but you...how can you die and leave me behind?"
If the arrows had met him, he wouldn’t have died, he would just go through pains before eventually healing in few days, but she was just human...
Hamon clenched his fist tightly around the sheets, an immense pain clutching his heart. There had once been darkness, so much darkness he didn’t want to live... but now there was deep pain, endlessly unbearable inescapable pain trapping his heart, how could he accept the fact that his wife was dead?
’Not even death can take you away from me.’
’Not even death...’
There was still a way to bring her back. Hamon lifted his head from her chest, he quickly looked through her ring finger. His eyebrows furrowed as he didn’t seem to find what he was looking for.
He stood up and made to her dressing room, he frantically searched through all her wardrobes and jewelry boxes. He pulled all the drawers, scattered everything in the room, some things shattered, and everything was in a disarray, but still didn’t seem to find what he was searching for. He ran his fingers through his hair in frustration.
’Ara where did you hide the ring? I need to make my wish before it’s too late...’
Since death had decided to snatch her away from him, he would forcefully take her back, even from the gates of hell. He was about to walk out of the dressing room when his eyes caught glimpse of a brown box at the top of the wardrobe. He reached for it and brought it down, he opened it. And to his relief there he found her necklace with the half stone with the ring he’d given her carefully placed inside.
Hamon quickly took the ring and strode back to the bedside. He sat back on the edge of the bed, "I never thought a day would come I’ll be making a wish on this stone..."
He was well aware after making this wish, he’d never have the liberty to make another wish again, just like he had suspected Ara had also made some kind of a wish to turn back the time. They would never be able to make any wishes on the stone again as it only granted one wish to whoever possessed it, and after that, it was as useless as any colourful stone. However, he had no more wish than to see his wife back to life, he wanted nothing but that.
Hamon glanced at her lifeless face before he looked back at the bright red stone on the ring. He closed his eyes and murmured some words softly. But when he opened them, he noticed there were no changes on Ara, he tried to find a pulse, but there was none.
"Why isn’t it working?"
He made the wish again, but still nothing happened. It was supposed to work, it could grant any single wish, so why wasn’t it working now? However he was about to start panicking when he noticed the bright red stone on the ring began to turn dark red, followed by the sizzling sound of lightning strikes, then came the roaring rumbling of thunder, the wind blew fiercely through the windows. Even the terrace door flew open with a forceful loud bang.
