Chapter 183: Under attack (part 1)
Hamon and Ara exited the theater gleefully and boarded their carriage parked right outside. The couple then head to the middle town where the pastry store Ara spoke about was located.
At Ara’s words, the coachman pulled the reins and the carriage came to a halt in front of a store with a huge board sign that read, "Heavenly pastries" it was a popular bakery store that was often crowded with people, however it was most known amongst the commoners in Findara, but because of their high quality and delicious pastries, even the elites liked it and secretly placed their orders through letters or sent their servants to get it for them.
Ara had known the store since her childhood, because their mother would always bring her and Henry to get cakes. Remembering the memories of their mother brought a somber smile to her face as they got down the carriage. It felt like it had been forever since she’d been here.
However, since the store was always crowded, Ara had sent Oliver to book the entire place for the night so Hamon wouldn’t feel uncomfortable with many people, since she knew he disliked being around too much people.
The couple walked hand in hand towards the bakery entrance, but Hamon peered curiously at the unusual quiet store, "Why are we the only ones here? Did you perhaps rent the entire store for the night?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.
Ara nodded, "Yes, I don’t want you feeling uncomfortable around the people, and I want to be with you in a quiet place...don’t you like it?" She asked as she glanced up to meet his eyes.
He wouldn’t say he didn’t like it. It was good there was no one here, anyway the people of Findara weren’t fond of him to begin with, and his sudden appearance in town would surely cause an opera. He beamed, "I like it quiet, you did well." He patted her head.
Ara couldn’t help but smile, "You also did something like this the last time you took me to a famous restaurant you rented the whole place."
Hamon chuckled softly, "So now we are even?" He asked, "Well, I’ve always wanted to give you the best in the world, to show you how much you mean to me, wife."
Ara felt heat surge up her face at his causal confession. She didn’t know what to say or how to react, and tried to soothe her burning cheeks by hurriedly grabbing Hamon’s arm and leading him inside the store, "Let’s go, get ready to perceive their heavenly pastries baking!" She exclaimed as she jogged pulling him along.
Hamon also jogged behind her; if one should see the couple, they didn’t look or act like royalty at the moment as they jogged inside the store.
Ara pushed the entrance door open, small tinkling sound of bells rang out. Immediately they entered, the sweet aroma of baking invaded their nostrils. Ara closed her eyes and inhaled the aroma, she’d missed this so much!
She pulled Hamon to the displayed pastries, spread out before them was a vast buffet of various cupcakes and different parties. Ara released Hamon’s hand and picked up a tong and a tray, "Hamon, You can also pick a tray, take whatever you wish to eat."
"Which ones are you favorites?" He asked as he looked around the pastries spread on the buffet table.
"Hmm..." She placed a finger on her lips as she looked around then started to point, "I like patty, ginger bread, doughnuts with a bit of cream on them, and those cream cakes over there_Oh and more of those!"
Hamon nodded, but instead of pulling away to pick his own, he simply followed behind his wife and placed the same things she chose on his own tray. After they selected everything they wanted, they both settled down on a table close to the huge window.
Ara glanced at Hamon’s tray and back at hers, "Oh, You picked all of my favorites." She noted the obvious.
"Yes, I’m more curious to try what you enjoy eating."
Ara didn’t know what to respond to that and simply nodded. Strangely just this brought warmth to her heart again. She glanced down at all her favorite pastries from childhood, she’d missed this so much!
With a smile she took a delicate forkful of cream cake and placed it in her mouth. She closed her eyes to savor the cake, the cream dissolved into a smooth velvety texture on her tongue, and as she opened her eyes she saw Hamon was staring at her, she flashed him a bright smile, and he also smiled back.
He also ate from his creamcake, but not taking his eyes off her as she ate. After finishing the entire creamcake, she moved to the rest of the mouthwatering pastries on her tray.
Hamon who had been observing her this whole time, His eyes fell on the cream sticking at the corner of her mouth, without even thinking about it, he leaned forward and wiped off the cream from her mouth with his fingers before licking it off in delight.
Ara froze on her seat as she watched him lick his finger, she suddenly recalled he’d once done this before when he rented the entire restaurant. He glanced back at her and smiled like a satisfied predator, "I like the cream much better from your mouth."
Heat rushed to her face and she quickly glanced at the window to avoid his gaze. Suddenly she caught sight of flying lanterns floating in the sky, "Hamon, look!"
He also glanced out the window, "Oh, it’s the lantern festival...do you want to see?" He asked.
Soon the couple finished eating in the store and Hamon took Ara’s hand to lead her to who knows where. They strolled through the deserted street since most of the people were busy celebrating the lantern festival they didn’t come across anyone.
He took her to a stone bridge where the flowing lanterns were much more visible. She glanced up and watched the sky lanterns flowing up into the night sky.
They both stood against the white marble stone bridge railing with their heads up, hundreds of lanterns passed by the bridge, "It’s beautiful..." She murmured. She had completely forgotten about the lantern festival since elites don’t normally celebrate it, only the commoners do such things. And it happened to be the day she wanted to confess her love.
The lanterns lit up the dark night, it’s effect was even more breathtaking as it flowed past the bridge. The splashing sound of water beneath the bridge was also soothing. Ara glanced down at the river and saw the light of the lanterns reflected in the dark river.
They admired the lanterns flying in the sky, the stars twinkled against the ebony sky as well. She turned to Hamon, "It’s looks beautiful, but too bad we didn’t get to light our lanterns, too..."
He looked away from the sky, even though they wanted to buy a lantern now, no shop was opened at the moment, "Don’t worry, I will get you a lantern to light tomorrow." He assured and she nodded with a smile. After that silence fell for a moment, before Hamon asked, "Do you want to stay for awhile or should we return to the carriage?"
"Let stay here for awhile..." She noticed a stone bench on the bridge, "Let’s sit there." She pointed to the bench.
Hamon removed his coat and spread it on the beach before gesturing for Ara to sit, "Thank you..." She said softly.
They both sat down. Ara glanced sideways at him, "Did you enjoy the night?" She asked.
"Yes, I did, even more than I expected. And whenever am with you, I enjoy everything."
She smiled, "I’m glad you enjoyed it..."
Silence fell again, with the cool night breeze blowing their hair. There was the occasional sound of the water rippling under the bridge.
’Where should I start?’
Ara couldn’t help but wonder where to begin her words. Was she supposed to tell him when she started to have feelings for him? Or should she begin with telling him to burn their contract because she’d chosen to stay with him? Damn it! This was even harder than she’d thought.
She suddenly stared to feel more nervous as time seemed to pass, her heart was pounding, she feared that it might even leap out of her ribcage. She had to do this now or never!
Ara swallowed hard then turned towards him, "Hamon..."
"Hmm?" He hummed as he turned towards her.
Meeting his red eyes, she hesitated. When she didn’t speak, he asked, "What is it? Tell me, wife."
She cleared her throat, "I have something to say...I don’t_" before she could even begin her confession, Hamon’s hand suddenly shot to cover her mouth. What was wrong with him?!
He narrowed his eyes as if he was trying to listen to something up ahead. Before she could ask him what was wrong, he had hurriedly stood up to his feet and grabbed her hand, "We have to leave immediately!" He rushed in a grave tone.
"What’s wron_" she didn’t not get to finish her words before Hamon pulled her to his arm, her eyes widened as she felt an arrow whistled past her ear, but it didn’t meet her as Hamon had quickly pulled her away, he hugged her tightly. Everything happened so quickly she couldn’t register how it happened, however in an instant countless arrows began to fly in the air towards them.

Back at the crown Prince’s residence, Emma who was about to retire to her room for the night suddenly stopped in her tracks. She felt a sharp pain shot through her head, she grabbed her head with both hands as her hazel eyes slowly began turning a faint white until it completely turned white.
The vision she’d been dreaming about suddenly flashed to her mind. She clenched her fists tightly as her body began to shake slightly. Her eyes turned back to normal.
"Oh Lord...this can’t be, My lady. No, no, not today." Emma murmured as she hurriedly turned back and headed to Oliver’s room. She’d thought that it was just a nightmare since she hadn’t been seeing the vision anymore. But...No!
Emma knocked on Oliver’s door repeatedly until she heard his displeased voice from the inside, "Who the heck is that? Why not just break the damn door down with your ear piercing knocks!"
She’d surely break it down if he doesn’t come out, "Sire Oliver, it’s me Emma."
She heard his hurried footsteps approaching the door, then it opened, "Emma, What are you doing here?" He asked with a frown.
"The crown Prince and my mistress are in danger. You need to lead the soldiers to aid them as soon as possible!"
