Chapter 139: Wouldn’t share her husband with other women!
"It’s bad for any woman to inhale it for a long period of time...If You inhale it a lot, it will make it hard for you to ever conceive a child. You might never be able to get pregnant."
"W-what?" Ara was shocked beyond words at the information. Never be able to get pregnant?
Pregnancy was not something that she thought relevant to her at the moment, as she and Hamon weren’t even in that sort of relationship to even think of having a child. However, that doesn’t mean she would never have a child of her own in the future.
Ara felt anger built up her throat. How could she have easily accepted such gift, while she knew Merona was not on good graces with Hamon?! Ara had been so relieved that nobody could harm her with her fighting skills, that she’d thought no assassin could easily defeat her, but she had never expected the queen to use such methods to get to her. By sending a wicked gift instead!
"Thank you, Emma. The outcome would have been terrible if you weren’t here today."
Emma smiled, "Don’t mention it, My lady...You should be careful what you accept from the queen next time." She informed, and added, "Since you’re the crown princess now and would be the next queen. However, a child strengthens the royal women...I heard from my grandmother that; the crown princess’ ambition before taking the position of a queen, should be most focused on giving an heir to the throne."
"Oh, I see..."
Ara hadn’t thought deep into this before. She’d been so focused on defeating Cornell and helping Hamon get the throne, but now that Emma had mentioned it. Once a king’s attention gets drawn to other women and he got many concubines, the only thing left for the queen was to provide a successor. If she failed to get pregnant, she’d have no choice but to step down and give the queen position to another woman who could give an heir to the throne.
The victory of the royal women, was to give birth to the next king.
However, that shouldn’t matter to Ara in any way, right? Her marriage to Hamon was just contractual, and she’d agreed in the contract to let him take another wife or mistresses after a year of their marriage. And after she saved her family from their ruin, she’d have nothing to worry or care about anymore. Hamon could have as many wives as he wished, right?
But why does the thought of sharing Hamon with other women doesn’t sit right with her?
If that happened someday...would Hamon do same things he’d done for her to other women? Would he kiss them the way he did with her earlier in the training hall? And buy them gifts too?
Ara recalled Hamon’s charming smiling face, with his mesmerizing dimples, as well as the searing kiss they’d shared this morning. The moment was still vivid in her mind, she could still see and feel it. How could she watch him do all that to another woman?
Ara suddenly pressed her hand against her chest as her heart throbbed painfully at the thought of it. Why does it hurt so much just by the thought? But she somehow knew Hamon would never do that...would he? No, he wouldn’t. She wouldn’t allow it, she’d have to help him become king and make sure to make him stick with only her alone after that!
She didn’t know what all these strange feelings were, but she wouldn’t share her husband with any other woman!
Ara shuffled her pain and thoughts before she turned towards Emma, who kneeled beside the table still examining the bottles. Maybe she should make Emma the head of servants in Hamon’s residence...The young maid seemed smarter than her age. Even though she was just a year older than Ara. Keeping her around would do good. Ara thought, and before she spoke,
"Emma, There is something I’d like to tell you."
Emma glanced away from the bottles and responded with a smile, "You want me to be the head servant of this palace, right?"
Ara blinked in astonishment, how did she know?! "How did you know...?"She inquired.
Emma placed the bottle she was holding inside the box and closed it, before she replied, "I just know, I can read minds sometimes, you can think of it as a wild guess, My lady." She said, not saying her exact identity.
Ara nodded, "Alright, since you’ve guessed my thoughts. Are you willing to be the head servant?"
Emma nodded without any hesitation, "Yes, My lady. It’s an honor to work here as the head servant, I will serve you right." Emma was willing to do anything to remain by Ara’s side, she needed to confirm her suspicions.
Ara felt happy on hearing that, she took Emma’s hand resting on the table, "Thank you, Emma."
"Don’t mention it, My lady. I should be the one to thank you for giving me such privilege to work in the palace. Thank you!" She beamed. And Ara couldn’t help but smile warmly. Her eyes fell back on the box and the smile dropped slowly. She and Hamon would join the king and queen for dinner tonight, she’d have to personally thank Merona for her generous gifts, and act clueless about the thing mixed in it.
Ara had no intentions of starting any fight with the queen, but now that she’d crossed the lines first, she’d have no choice but to play this game with Merona.
As Ara was thinking of what to do, Emma spoke first, "My lady, the maid who brought the gift look suspicious to me. What do you think?" Emma already knew a little about who the maid worked for, but she had to do everything not to raise any suspicions on herself and keep her ability hidden.
Ara nodded thoughtfully, "I noticed it too..." Ara had also noticed how the maid reacted when Emma had suggested to keep the perfumes for a test. She was sure there was a mole hiding in Hamon’s residence, and maybe it was high time she takes charge of his residence. This was also her home, and she’d place new rules.
Hamon wouldn’t mind any changes she’d make anyway, at that thought Ara glanced at Emma as she rose from the couch, "Emma, come with me. Bring along the box of perfumes."
Emma nodded, and took the box. Then followed behind Ara. As soon as they stepped outside the parlor room, the maid who attended to her in the morning came rushing towards them, "Your Highness." She bowed.
Ara then asked, "Do you know Oliver?"
The maid nodded, "Yes, Your Highness. Should I call him for you?"
"Yes, please."
The maid immediately ran to get Oliver. Ara had encountered Oliver the most apart from Merek, she knew he was Hamon’s right hand man, and she could trust him with what she wanted him to do.
Soon Oliver appeared with his blonde hair slightly messy as if he’d ran all the way here. He bowed, "Your Highness, You sent for me?"
