Chapter 138: The queen’s gift

Back at the training hall, Ara dashed out of Hamon’s private training hall. She could hear his voice calling her to come back, but she hurriedly walked along the passageway ignoring him. She’d managed to escape from him.

But her racing heart wouldn’t calm down. Hamon’s words still burned in her ear, "Teach me how to kiss and breathe..." She muttered under her breath as she placed her right hand on her slightly swollen lips.

Wasn’t it said that the first time trying something was difficult and the second time was easier? She couldn’t help but feel shy every time she recalled how he’d held her and kissed her breathless. Ara had once told Hamon at the wedding ceremony; that she would not allow him kiss her again, but she allowed it, again...

They were not married for long, but intimacy was already creeping into their relationship. Even though they hadn’t done the deed as they agreed in the contract. However, they already had two passionate kisses like any ordinary couple. The heat of the kiss still tingled on her lips. The image of Hamon kissing her flashed to her mind again.

What was she doing, again?! Ara shook her head to dispel her imagination.

’Ara you need to stop this!’ She scolded herself. If she continued like this, she might always allow him have his way with her next time. She’d avoid any body contact with him from now onwards! She placed her hand on her pounding heart. ’You better calm down before you bust my chest open. It was just a kiss!’

He just kissed her to stop people from coming into the training hall. It wasn’t a bad way to keep people away from there. However, no matter how much she repeated it to herself that; ’it was just a kiss and nothing else.’ Her mind didn’t seem immune to the kind of touch. She could still feel his arms holding her in place.

Ara gave a defeated sigh as she walked towards the direction of their room, but the young maid from earlier this morning came running towards Ara and bowed, "Your Highness, there is a young lady here to see you. She said she’s Her Highness’s maid, Emma from the Boxton other mansion."

"Emma?" Ara’s green eyes widened at the unexpected report. Emma was here already? She hadn’t expected her to come this soon. "Where is she?"

"She’s in the parlor, Your Highness."

Ara hurried towards the parlor room, as she arrived there and opened the door. There she saw Emma sat, but immediately stood and bowed, "My lady."

Ara offered her a smile, "Emma, how did you get here? I was worried about you as the last time I saw you, you looked quite sick. How have you been?" She inquired as she made her way inside the parlor room.

"I’m fine, My lady. Congratulations on your marriage with the crown Prince."

"Oh, thank you. And I’m glad to see you’re fine now. But am disappointed at the fact that you weren’t the one to design my wedding gown, Emma." Ara had hoped to get Emma to design the wedding gowns, but since Anne had already booked the Teawe dress shop, she let it pass.

"I’m sorry I didn’t make it here on time, but since am here, I can still make your dresses from now on." Emma exclaimed excitedly.

Ara couldn’t help but smile at her excitement. She didn’t know why, but something about Emma seemed different from the other maids, was it because of how sincere she was with her words and actions?

Ara gestured for her to sit down, and they both sat down. The moment they sat, they heard a soft knock on the door, Ara turned towards the door and spoke in a calm voice, "Come in."

However, Emma who was looking at Ara with a smile, but immediately the door opened her hazel eyes changed instantly and the smile on her face fell as a woman in maids uniform entered the parlor room.

Ara looked at the maid with a slight frown as she hadn’t seen her before, however there were so many people working in Hamon’s residence she hadn’t met yet.

The maid bowed, "Your Highness, Her majesty sent you a personal wedding gift."

"Her majesty?"

Emma, who sat across from Ara already knew what it was even before the maid presented it to Ara. But she decided to stay quiet to avoid any suspicions.

Ara looked at the maid in wonderment. Merona had given her a cold shoulder at the banquet, and of course she knew that Merona’s relationship with Hamon was less than kind, so why would she suddenly send her a gift?

"What kind of gift did her majesty send?" She asked.

"Her majesty sent you a set of luxurious perfumes found only in Dumbarton."

Ara had no protest, since she said it was a wedding gift, she replied, "Bring it in let me see for myself."

"Yes, Your Highness." The maid bowed and beckoned for a guard to bring it in, and soon a man stepped in carrying a brown luxurious box. He placed it on the table in front of her and stepped back with his head bowed. Ara opened the box and was met with twelve sets of small perfume bottles set in order. She picked one up and opened it. The sweet scent was quick to spread around the room.

She studied them one by one. Ara did not particularly fancy sweet scents, but she quite liked this ones, "I like them, You can place the box in my chamber."

However, Emma’s eyebrows snapped together at Ara’s permission to take it to her room. She then said, "My lady, I will take it to your room later, let’s keep them here first so I can help you test them." Even before Emma touched the bottles, she could tell what was mixed with all those perfumes. ’Cusida leaf!’

Ara didn’t think much of it, and responded, "Alright, keep the box here."

"Huh...A-alright, Your Highness." The maid looked taken aback, she then glanced at Emma who suggested to keep the box and test it. But didn’t comment further and turned to leave the parlor with the man, but before she closed the door, the maid said, "Your Highness, let me know when you are ready to take the box to your chamber."

Ara nodded in reply and the maid closed the door as she stepped out. Emma quickly took one of the small bottles, "My lady, you can’t use this. It’s really bad!"

Ara was taken aback, "Why?"

Emma lifted the bottle and replied, "It has...Cusida leaf mixed in it, it will affect you in a bad way." She informed, then added so Ara wouldn’t ask how she knew, "I know it because my grandmother is good with mixing concoctions, I can tell from the smell."

"Cusida leaf? What is that?" Ara asked.

"It’s bad for any woman to inhale it for a long period of time...If You inhale it a lot, it will make it hard for you to ever conceive a child. You might never be able to get pregnant."
