Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 129: Match making

Chapter 129: Match making

As soon as Ara walked away from Claire, she felt someone’s presence trailing behind her, at first she pretended not to notice, but when she halted the person did the same. She turned around with a small frown, that was when she saw who it was.

It was the delegate from Bredon, the woman approached her with a smile then bowed, "Your Highness, it’s a pleasure to meet you again. But I must say, You have a sharp sense for noticing my presence."

Ara offered her a small smile, "You are..." She tried to recall her name, but the woman introduced herself, "My name is Iris Shawn, Your Highness."

Ara took in the woman’s outfit, she’d always wanted to dress this freely. She was sure the woman was a great swordwoman with her straight posture.

"Iris Shawn." Ara repeated. Her name was also strange. Iris smiled and said, "You can call me Iris, Your Highness."

Ara’s whole face lit up, Iris’s permission to let her use her first name meant that she wanted to be closer. Which Ara wouldn’t mind, "Alright, Iris." Ara accepted without protest, she was particularly interested in becoming acquainted with Iris because of their military, they would need all the help they could get in the future.

Iris expression brightened up, "I couldn’t help but notice how you looked drawn to those weapons earlier, I can tell you must be quite good with one...do you know how to use a bow and arrow?" She asked curiously, trying to hold a conversation.

Ara tried to restrain herself from jumping in excitement because of her position as the crown princess, but she answered calmly, "A little, Why did you ask?" She had to hide her skills with weapons from people as Hamon had told her.

"Oh, I brought one for you, I would like to gift it to you personally, Your Highness."

"Really?"

"Yes, Your Highness, and I hope you’ll like it. I will gift it to you later." She said.

However, a meeting and promise of a personal gift was completely different, Ara’s green eyes shone. She knew Iris might have something to ask in return of the gift, but Ara wanted to know her intentions, so she’d accept Iris’s offer and made sure they’d have another opportunity to speak again.

"I will take the gift before you leave Findara."

"I’m glad you accept, Your Highness." Iris offered her a friendly smile. And Ara watched the young woman with curiosity.

At the other side of the hall, Eadlin hid herself in the middle of her friends, but after seeing her mother was out of the hall with her father. She excused herself, "I’ll be right back." She walked away from the noble children, who had nothing else to talk about but only boast about how rich their father was.

She couldn’t stand hearing them the whole time, they were all just a pretentious bunch of spoiled brats, though she didn’t like hanging around them, she had no choice as her mother always insisted she associates herself with children of elites like them, she’d rather be around Anne who was open minded and carefree, but if her mother should sight her being around her half-brother’s wife’s family...she’d have to go through all the nagging again.

She searched around for Anne and spotted her talking with someone, Eadlin made to walk towards her, but noticed the arrogant man was still sitting in the same place from earlier.

What was he, a stone statue? How could he just continue to sit in the same place like that? And what was with that constantly moody expression he had on his face? It was as if he was at odds with the whole world. After she set her eyes on him again she couldn’t help but remember how he insulted her, calling her a woman who has no dignity. She quickly made her way to Anne and started to complain even before Anne noticed her.

"Such an arrogant brother you have! Are you sure you are related to that man? He’s too rude to be your brother. You and sister-in-law are nice and fun to be around, but him... he’s just... just... Arrogant!"

Anne turned towards Eadlin with her eyebrows knitted together in confusion, which man was she talking about? "Who are you talking about?" Anne asked.

Eadlin pursed her lips, "Who else but your brother. Look he’s sitting alone right there." She gestured to Henry with her eyes, Anne followed her line of sight and saw her brother. She frowned, was her brother rude?

"What did he do to you?" She asked, because she knew her brother barley spoke to anybody.

"I just asked for a dance..."

Oh so that’s the case. Anne thought. "Did he reject you?" Anne asked but more like stated a fact, it was an indisputable fact that Henry would reject a dance, he hated being near people not to mention dancing.

"He didn’t just reject me, but he also called me a woman with no dignity." Eadlin complained indignantly.

Anne was taken aback. Henry wouldn’t say that to a princess, would he? Could it be that the princess had a thing for her brother? Anne’s eyes lit up in excitement, Oh if that was the case...then it was time for her to play Cupid! She’d never seen her brother with any woman before, and she thought the princess would look good with Henry.

With that thought, Anne quickly smiled And said, "Did he? Don’t worry my brother is actually a very nice person. Am sure he didn’t mean to call you that. If you don’t believe me, I’ll go and talk to him. And he will come and apologize" Anne was eager to put in good words for her brother.

Eadlin waved her hands in protest, "There’s no need for you to talk to him, I don’t want to know if he’s nice or not." She had dignity, she wouldn’t approach him anymore. Eadlin thought.

But Anne insisted, "You can stay here and I’ll go and talk to him." Before Eadlin could say anything, Anne had hurried away towards her brother.

Henry who was still sitting because he was waiting for an opportunity to talk privately with the crown Prince noticed his younger sister approaching him.

"Brother Henry!" She called even before reaching him, her voice was a bit loud drawing the attention of some elites to their direction. Henry’s eyebrows knitted together in disapproval, "Anne, How many times do I have to tell you to act like a proper lady?" He asked, but Anne pouted in a spoiled manner, "What did I do now? And why are you sitting here alone when everyone are mingling around?" She questioned as she drew a chair and sat beside him.

"What do you want?" He asked instead of answering. He knew his younger sister was a bit insane, she wouldn’t approach him just like that unless she wanted something or was up to something. Anne was nothing like Ara, who was always calm and reserved. His younger sister was nothing but a mischievous rat.

Anne cleared her throat, "Nothing, can’t I sit with my brother?" She asked, she wouldn’t just straight up demand he apologize to Eadlin, "You shouldn’t sit here alone when everyone are dancing and celebrating."

"..."

Anne lingered for a few seconds, as her brothers expression regained it’s calmness showing he didn’t mind her sitting with him, she began her Cupid mission, "Brother...Look over there, isn’t she beautiful?" Anne gestured to princess Eadlin, Henry followed her line of sight and saw the woman who called him mannerless earlier.

Their eyes met, but Eadlin was quick to look away from him. So, after he had rejected her and repeatedly made it clear that he wasn’t interested in whatever it is she was wanted she still sent his sister to him? He was right, this princess surely lacked dignity!

Henry looked away from her, and glanced towards his sister, "What about her? Did she send you here?" He asked.

"Huh? No, No, she didn’t. I only came here to keep you company...But then isn’t she beautiful?" Anne asked wagging her eyebrows. She was here to play Cupid.

Henry’s frown deepened as he glanced back at Eadlin’s direction. He narrowed his eyes, before his expression softened. He then stood up and Anne, who had been keenly analizing his expression was already rejoicing internally. Did he notice the princess already? It was really easy convincing her brother huh. She was really a Cupid queen! What a miracle, she hadn’t even done anything yet.

After Henry stood up, he didn’t even spare Anne another glance and made his way towards Eadlin. Anne couldn’t keep in her Joy. She almost clapped in excitement, even Eadlin’s expression brightened up when she saw him walking towards her. Was he coming to apologize? She quickly fixed her hair and posture. Humph! But she wasn’t going to accept his apologies that easily after he had insulted her like that.

But to Anne and Eadlin’s disappointment, Henry brushed past her, and made his way to the crown Prince, who stood alone on the open balcony far behind Eadlin.

What the heck brother! Anne screamed internally.
