Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 120: Cooked for you

Chapter 120: Cooked for you

As Merek was now an official Boxton servant, he could move around the place in open without having to hide behind the walls. He had just started yesterday, but still he hadn’t spotted any suspicious person in the Mansion. How was he going to catch the rat when all the servants looked normal?

Fortunately, he wasn’t the only one watching out for any suspicious person. The crown Prince had sent some of his men to disguise and join the workers preparing for the wedding so nothing could go wrong. However, all the disguised men were being extra careful not to come across the young Lord, or the general.

If Henry or Richard should mistakenly spot the disguised men, there was no telling what they’d do. It was easy for Merek to easily become a servant because of Anne. It was great advantage that he knew her of course, but he’d been trying to avoid her as much as possible.

For some reasons the young lady had been clinging to him as if he’d run away. Merek clicked his tongue in annoyance, she was always looking for reasons to be around him, and he hadn’t had enough chance to do his mission!

As Merek was complaining internally and watching Hamon’s men among the workers. He suddenly heard the sound of footsteps behind him, as he turned.

Damn it! He cursed internally. Why couldn’t she be on her own and let him do his work?!

"Why are you standing here, Merek?"

Anne questioned with a grin as her blue eyes shone with excitement. She hadn’t allowed Merek rest for a moment since he started working in the mansion, and it made him feel like he was the one under strict surveillance.

"Nothing...What are you here, my lady?" He asked.

At his question, Anne jumped and hugged his right arm to her body and glanced up at him, "I made lunch for us, I want you to try my cooking. I’m still learning." She beamed.

Merek was frozen at the sudden body contact. He could even feel the softness of her chest grazing his arm with the way she hugged his right arm. He quickly drew his arm away from her and moved two steps away. This lady was really insane! Nobody had touched him that way before, and why was she asking him to try her cooking?

That wasn’t how to treat a servant, Merek’s face hardened as he replied in his low deep voice, "I am not joining you for any lunch, I am just a servant, my lady."

Anne was about to hug his arm again, but Merek moved back before she could touch him. She glared at him, "Merek?"

"Yes, My lady." He responded with a grim look, but Anne laughed at his expression, she then leaned closer and whisper to Merek with a soft sugar voice, "Don’t call me that, address me as my name whenever we’re alone."

Merek’s brows furrowed, "It’s not proper for a mere servant to address their mistress by their name, my lady." He said with a bow.

"Don’t ever bow to me, I don’t mind if you call me by my first name."

Merek couldn’t help but think that the lady acted like a brick wall sometimes. She was stubborn. All his life, nobody had ever tried to come close to him the way Anne does. He was cold and blank that people barely even harbored the thought to get close to him and he wanted it to remain that way, but Anne seemed to repeatedly knock on his quiet door. But he’d make sure to scare her away from now on, at least then she would keep her distance.

His expression turned colder,"I can’t call you that, my lady."

Anne sighed, "Fine. You will learn to do that in the future, I’ll make sure of it."

Despite his cold tone and expressions, Anne didn’t seem to be willing to give up and resumed to pulled his arm, "The food will get cold, Merek. Let’s go."

It almost felt like a wife was asking her husband to join her for lunch. As Merek didn’t budge despite her pulling, she added, "Please, please, I made it myself, but there is no one to try it and tell me how it tastes. Be my judge, please." Anne asked in a whining voice.

Merek had no choice with how persistent she was, he took a deep breath and answered, "Alright, just for today."

Anne’s face lit up and she immediately pulled him along. She took him to a small dining room in the mansion with various sizes of closed dishes on the table. Merek’s expression remained blank as he saw the filled table, it was strange to think of a servant eating on the same table with their master.

However, Merek didn’t want to draw any more attention to himself, as ever since he arrived, more servants were now aware of him because of the lady’s favoritism towards him.

Anne first took her seat and glanced up at Merek, "Sit down." She said, but he didn’t move from where he stood, "I don’t know what you are thinking, my lady. But I don’t have to sit to taste the food. It’s not alright for you to be this kind to a servant." He remarked bluntly.

Anne stood up with a frown on her face, she then said in a commanding tone, "I am your master, right? And you’d do as I say, Sit down, Merek." She ordered sternly as she pointed to the chair beside hers.

Merek was taken aback by her sudden firm voice. Was she now using her authority to make him do what she wanted? He’d never served anyone as stubborn as Anne. And did she intend to frighten him with that tone of hers? His lips twitched as he held back a small smile that threatened to slip his lips and quietly sat on the chair she pointed at.

Anne pressed down a satisfied smile as she saw him obey her. And as soon as he sat, she started to open the lid on the bowls. Soon various different dishes came to Merek’s view, mouth watering food.

One bowl was containing a whole wonderfully garnished chicken soup, and another was hot and steaming stewed beef, there was also porridge but not the usual type that he’d seen but it was prepared in a special way with special garnishing, another bowl held sweetened pudding for desert, then a smaller dish holding several pastries. Just the aroma that wafted out of the dishes were incredibly inviting, and there were a lot more food on the table as she opened them one after the other.

There were all visually delicious delicacies even before being tasted. Did she really make all these? He glanced up at her from where he sat.

Anne took a bowl and served him. The servants standing suspiciously stared at Merek, but they daren’t open their mouth to speak with Anne there.

Anne placed another bowl with food in front of him, "Here, have this. I made it special for you, it will help with your healing."

Merek stared at the bowls placed before him. Nobody had ever done anything for him... He’d never even tasted such food before.

Not that he was poor, the crown Prince highly reward him after each mission. And after all the battles they had conquered along side the crown Prince, Merek could be said to have accumulated a small fortune of his own as Hamon was very generous to his people. He had a mansion for himself, but had never lived in it, he was sent various raw food supplies monthly, but he’d never known how to cook or have someone do it for him. Sometimes when he would get hungry, he’d eat it raw and never had cooked it like this. But this...

He glanced up at her from where he sat, and she flashed him an innocent smile, "Eat up, I hope you like it. Don’t worry I will make more if you like it."

Merek didn’t say anything and just gave her a small nod, then Anne sat down. He would only do this for today, he never wanted to get used to her kindness. He wasn’t the one for her, even though his status was not that low as he had his own hidden fortune, but still the young lady deserved someone better, someone pure and kind hearted just like she was, someone with no blood on their hands.

Merek slowly took a spoonful of the soup, the sweat aroma caused his sense to salivate even before tasting it, he parted his lips and drank it. He paused for a moment and looked down at the plate, he’d never tasted anything as close as good as this!

He took another spoonful of the soup, and he repeatedly took it until it was almost empty. He only realized what he’d done when he heard Anne’s small chuckles, he halted and glanced at her awkwardly and shifted on his seat uncomfortably.

Anne smiled, "So, do you like it?"

Damn! Anything tasted good to him, but this was...paradise to Merek, who would normally eat raw food. He unwittingly answered with a, "Yes, I do." He secretly grimaced because he felt stupid after saying that.

Anne replied with a pleased expression, "Good, please help yourself with whatever you want to eat on the table."

Anne couldn’t control her joy. She’d worked hard in making all the dishes since this morning, though the servants helped her, but she was the one who cooked most of it. But he liked it! She’d make sure to do this with him everyday until he got so used to it and won’t be able to leave. Anyway, there was a saying; "The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!" She’d win him over this way!

Merek continued to eat quietly, but he was puzzled inside. He had never known how to treat women, and she was being this kind with him. Moreover, she was so different from him, she was a noble daughter, though he wanted to reject her kindness and push her away, but apart from the fact that she was so damn persistent, somewhere inside, he really didn’t want to reject how nicely she was treating him.

_’I won’t be here for long anyway. So enjoy the kindness while it lasts.’ He told himself. He was only in the mansion for a mission and would leave after that. His life would go back to normal, so why not enjoy all this for once? He’d enjoy it for as long as it lasts if that was the case. Merek thought, and continued to help himself to eat from each of the dishes on the table. As Anne had said.
