Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 121: The day before the wedding
Chapter 121: The day before the wedding
Time fled by quickly until it was eventually the day before Ara and Hamon’s wedding day. She woke up early that morning and stretched her hands before getting out of bed with a yawn. She wasn’t able to sleep well because of the thought of the wedding being tomorrow.
Her thoughts had been drifting off to how everything would turn out after tomorrow. Her life would change, and everything wouldn’t be the same again.
After taking a bath, Ara went down for breakfast. But was met with only Henry sitting in the dinning hall, he sat on the head chair, she knew their father wasn’t home as always, and Anne had said she’d come down after she was done doing whatever it was she was doing.
"Good morning." She greeted the quiet Henry. He looked like he was lost in thoughts, after hearing her voice, he glanced up at her with a slight nod of his head as a reply.
At his small nod, Ara quietly went and sat on her usual seat without another word. She was used to her brother being this way, but today was her last breakfast with him...
The dinning hall went silent as they were both waiting for the servants to serve the food. Henry, who was sitting quietly, stole glances at his sister. This was her last breakfast at the Boxton mansion, and tomorrow was her wedding day, but he hadn’t said anything to her ever since the wedding was fixed.
He wondered how she might be feeling right now.
Henry cleared his throat without saying anything. And Ara innocently glanced towards his direction with a small frown. Was he feeling discomfort in his throat?
"Are you alright?" She asked concerned, but he stiffly nodded and looked away. But then glanced back at her and said,
"How are you feeling? I mean...someone once told me that ladies get nervous a day before their wedding day...are you nervous?" He asked with a straight face. Was he supposed to ask her in that way?! Just shut your mouth if you don’t even know how to talk to your own sister! He scolded himself and quickly looked away from Ara, who stared at him with a faint smile.
"I am not that nervous..." She replied.
She was a bit nervous, she’d lived through a lifetime, but this was her first time getting married and her heart couldn’t help but tremble everytime she thought of tomorrow.
Henry gazed at her as if he was trying to read through her expression. It made her feel quite awkward as she wasn’t used to having such conversation with him before. She quickly decided to change the topic,
"Brother, the sword trials competition will take place after the wedding...are you nervous about it?" She asked.
He shook his head, "No, have trained for it. There’s nothing to be nervous about." He remarked confidently. He’d looked forward to the competition all these years, and trained hard for it. He wasn’t able to participate in it last year because of an injury he suffered from in training, but this year, nothing can stop him from coming out victorious.
Ara was about to speak but at that moment, Maya came into the dinning hall with a tray in hand and said, "Young Lord special food request for my lady, is finally ready!" She placed a bowl in front of Ara.
Ara looked puzzled at the change of the usual breakfast, "Special request?" She asked Maya, who nodded quickly, "Yes, my lady. It was the young Lord who requested it for you today."
"...?"
Ara turned towards Henry, who was quick to shot the maid a glare, "Me? A special request? I didn’t ask her to prepare it for you." He said to Ara," I only requested the kitchen cook to make something light for me for breakfast today."
Ara knew her brother usually never made requests from the kitchen. Henry, as a soldier was taught by Richard never to be picky about his choice of food. He could eat anything without any complaint. Even Ara, who had lived with him for long could not figure out what he liked or dislike eating. This was the first time he’d requested something from the kitchen.
Maya too knew Henry was not expressive and with the glare he shot at her, she quickly changed her earlier words, "Yes, my tongue misspoke. Lord Henry, only asked for a light food for himself."
Ara knew he’d done it for her, but Maya’s quick change of words made her smile. She felt loved. Ara opened her mouth to speak, but even then she could not say the full extent of her feelings. This was her last breakfast in the Boxton mansion, and she was glad he was here.
"Brother...thank you."
She wished there was a better way she could say her gratitude for everything he’d done for her, but even in such situation, she felt embarrassed.
Henry didn’t say anything but, "Eat your food."
Ara nodded and began to eat. While Henry secretly watched her with a sad-like small smile on his face. He couldn’t believe he’d be sending his sister to another man...How he wished their mother was here to witness her daughter’s wedding tomorrow.
_Mother...I hope you’re happy about this wherever you are right now._

After having breakfast with Henry, Ara decided to go and check up on Anne to see why she didn’t come down for breakfast. She knew what a foodie her sister was, she wondered why she didn’t come down.
Ara knocked on the door, she heard the sound of footsteps thumping and after a moment the door opened, revealing Anne’s mischievous grin, "Sister, What do you want?" She asked.
"Why didn’t you come down for breakfast?"
Anne awkwardly stretched her neck and then moved from the door, "Well...come in and see for yourself..."
Ara’s brows furrowed as she made her way in, she wondered what her sister was up to this time. After entering the room, she looked around but the moment her eyes fell on Anne’s bed, her steps came to a halt when she saw four luxurious boxes laying opened on the bed.
Each box contained a set of shinning jewelry, they glittered under the bright light coming from the slightly opened window.
Ara’s mouth opened in astonishment, where did her sister get such jewelry? Even by the looks of it you’d know it was an expensive piece.
"Anne...W-where did you get those?" She pointed at the boxes laying on the bed.
"It came from brother-in-law..." She answer with a stiff smile.
"Brother-in-law? You mean Hamon sent these?!" She turned to Anne with a wide eyes.
Anne began to explain slowly, "Well...He sent a letter two days ago asking me if you’ve gotten the jewelry to wear on the wedding day...And I told him you haven’t bought any yet..." She paused for a moment and continued, "So he told me not to bother about it he’d take care of it, so this morning he sent this...You see how they all are shinning?" She asked.
Ara looked towards the shinning jewelry again, "Yes."
"Actually...they are all diamonds."
Ara’s mouth fell open, "Diamonds?!"
What was wrong with Hamon? Why does it always seem like he was adding up to her debt? She knew he possessed a lot of wealth, and she knew it would be difficult for Anne to even reject his offer to help. She just didn’t expect him to buy her diamond jewelry after the marriage already came without a dowry.
Hamon seemed to deeply care about the wedding. She’d heard he even sent more workers to the venue to decorate the place, it was supposed to be the bride’s family’s responsibility, but he’d taken most of the work. And she felt even more in debt, but mostly she appreciated his help.
As Ara didn’t say anything, Anne asked, "Are you angry because I accepted the jewelry for you?"
Ara smiled, "No...I will thank him for it after the marriage."
"Oh, am glad you will wear them. You’re finally getting married tomorrow, sister! Am really excited!" She beamed.
Ara would wear his gift, but after the wedding she planned to return them. Even though, Hamon was not the type to receive something back, she was determined to make him take them this time.
"Sister, I apologize for not telling you about this, brother-in-law told me to keep it a secret until the day of the wedding..." She had wanted to tell Ara but thought her sister might refuse to wear it if she knew the crown Prince brought it.
Ara smiled and embraced Anne in a tight hug, this would be her last day in the mansion. She’d miss her sister the most. Anne gently patted her back and murmured,
"Don’t worry...I promise to make you the most beautiful bride anyone has ever seen tomorrow!"
Ara nodded slowly, she felt the nervousness starting to fade away slowly.
Soon the beautician came to the mansion. And Ara did some skin and hair treatment. The day was quick to pass and dinner time arrived. This time all the Boxton family members were present in the dinning hall, and the dinner was so peaceful.
After dinner the sisters decided to share a room, and talked about a lot of things. They both knew they could not easily do this anymore after tomorrow things would change. It would be a new beginning for them. A new life.
