Chapter 116: Accept the job offer
Chapter 116: Accept the job offer
Hamon called a physician to check Ara up, and the man informed him that there was nothing to worry about, she just needed more rest. After the physician left, Hamon had forced Ara to stay in bed and she eventually fell asleep on his watch.
He sat by the sofa beside the bed while checking up on her almost every minute. He’d called for Merek awhile ago, so after Merek came, Hamon stood up and adjusted the blanket on Ara before quietly stepping out of the room to meet with him.
"Your Highness." Merek greeted with a bow.
"Did you get the thing they were consuming at the party last night?" He asked.
Merek nodded, "Yes, Your Highness."
"Find out what it does to the body and look more into what goes on in the party Cassius throws."
Merek gave him a nod of his head, and Hamon continued to speak, "Don’t tell Ara about the spy in the Boxton mansion, I don’t want her to know about it."
Merek’s brows furrowed, "Why?"
"Because I know how her head works, she might try to do something risky and put herself in danger, we don’t know who the person is yet."
"But if we don’t tell her, Your Highness. How are we going to find the spy among the servants?"
Hamon knew Ara so well, if she knew about this, she wouldn’t stay low and end up taking actions on her own. Moreover, he wanted to know who the person worked for before getting rid of them. Hamon stayed quiet as he thought through everything.
There was only one way to get that person without Ara’s knowledge. Hamon gazed at Merek’s black orbs and said, "I want you to take the job offer Anne offered you when she saved you from the queen’s men."
Merek’s eyes widened. He hadn’t told Ara about Anne saving him, but he’d reported it to the crown Prince and told him about the job offer, he was completely loyal to Hamon and wouldn’t hide anything from him, the only thing he didn’t reveal was the fact that she had to expose her body to the queen’s men to save him. Merek had taken countless disguises to get information for the crown Prince, but...
"Your Highness, the young lady of the mansion_"
"Just do as I said, Anne doesn’t know you work for me and she also had no idea you’re Ara’s bodyguard, so there shouldn’t be any problems for now as long as you don’t let her know your true identity. Take the job offer."
Merek was at a loss for words. He wouldn’t want to be anywhere close to Anne. He’d been avoiding to come across her, but now that he had a mission to go and work there...No there must be another way to catch the spy!
After thinking through everything. Merek realized he had no reasons to refuse the mission. He had went on different disguises to get information in different dangerous places, yet somehow, he still didn’t want to go to this one. He never thought he’d ever come to face Anne again. He’d worked so hard to get her off his mind the last time, but now again...
"Your Highness, I can’t_"
Merek was about to refuse, but Hamon’s eyebrows raised in question, "You have never refused any mission before, so why now?"
"..."
"You won’t be in the mansion for long, just get the rat out of the house and get out of there. I don’t want even a slightest harm to go anywhere close to Ara. It’s a risk leaving the rat in there for long."
"Yes, Your Highness."
Merek fought down his reluctance and accepted his new mission. It was an easy thing, he’d get over with in no time and leave the mansion. But the problem was, he’d checked all the new servants backgrounds, but they all turned out clean, the person must really be good at hiding their identity.
"I’ll take the mission."
"Good, I want you to start as soon as possible." Hamon said and glanced towards his room’s door where Ara was still sleeping, with his eyebrows knitted together he said, "I hope you still remember your original mission?"
Merek nodded, "I do remember, Your Highness. No matter what, lady Ara’s life comes first...even if it means losing my life."
He still knew his original mission was to keep Ara safe at all cost. Even though he’d lose his life, Ara had to be safe first, and leave behind anyone else. That was the main reasons he doesn’t want to get involved with anybody, not even Anne. He doesn’t have a life of himself. If one day Ara and Anne were ever in danger...
He’d have to save Ara first. Merek had agreed to the mission before without any hesitation. Anyway his life was meaningless, and it would continue the same as long as he doesn’t get involved with the young lady.
Hamon continued, "Even if she tries to fight back or resist. Take her by force and bring her to me. But I have to warn you, it may be difficult if that ever happens."
Merek scoffed internally, difficult? He was a trained soldier and an assassin. It wouldn’t take him anytime to overpower a woman like Ara. He wondered why the crown Prince thought it would be difficult.
"I’ll remember that."
Merek knew how much Hamon cared for Ara, he’d known him for years, but had never seen him worried this much for anybody before. Before Ara came, Hamon had considered women as inanimate objects, and he’d never seen him pay any attention to the opposite gender.
Merek was the one who worked in the dark among Hamon’s men, he was mostly in charge of assassination or disguising to get something from the opponent’s territory. The fact that Hamon sent him to Ara, showed how much he cared for her. And Merek had vowed his life to the crown Prince, he’d sworn to protect anything important to him until the end of his life.
Suddenly they both heard a sound of movement inside the room Ara was. Hamon knew immediately that she had woken up again. He turned his head towards the door, then instructed Merek, "You may get to it right away. Make sure not to show any of the Boxton’s family who you are or your mission. If you find the person...bring them to me, I’ll deal with it myself."
Immediately Hamon finished talking he strode inside the room, "Why are you moving around, future wife?" He asked then closed the door.
Merek watched him closed the door. He knew it. She was his weakness, if something ever happened to her...It might happened again...the demon in the crown Prince might surface again. He’d seen it once before, but hoped to never see the crown Prince shift again.
Arabella was Hamon’s weakness. He’d have to protect her with everything in him to avoid summoning...the demon!
