Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 115: Explanation

Chapter 115: Explanation

Ara didn’t wake up until it was midafternoon the next day, she slowly opened her stiff eyes, but what met her eyes was an unfamiliar ceiling. Was she still dreaming? She thought and carefully used her hands to rubb her blurry eyes to see clearly if she was really seeing right.

Just as she tried to sit up, she heard a voice from beside her, "You are finally awake, future wife."

Ara immediately turned her head to the direction of the voice, she gasped as she saw Hamon was lying right next to her on the bed with his head propped on his elbow as he gazed at her with his burning red eyes.

She quickly sat upright on the bed.

"You should sleep more. You need it so much for what you did last night." Hamon didn’t sound doting at all. In fact, he sounded like he was scolding his wife who came home late after getting drunk.

"Where is this place?" She asked.

"Where else? My room of course." He deadpanned.

Ara’s mouth fell opened at Hamon’s blunt reply, she tried to remembered how she ended up in his room or the palace, but her head was slightly thumping. She massaged her forehead.

Before Ara could say anything, Hamon got off the bed and took a steaming cup of tea from the table and hand it to her, "Here drink this, it will help."

Ara slowly took the cup, warming her hands around it she took a sip, it was warm and tasted different from any other tea she’d had before, "What kind of tea is this? It tastes different..."

"I made it, it’s a special remedy for cold, as I thought you’d need it after clinging so tightly to my neck the entire night saying you’re cold and need me to warm you up." He blurted with a straight face, as if not realizing the impact of what he just said.

"Cough! Cough!"

Ara choked on the tea and was coughing violently. Hamon sat beside her and patted her on the back gently, "Aiya, be careful and drink slowly." He handed her his handkerchief.

Ara vaguely remembered what she had said before she fell unconscious. Did she really cling tightly to him?! And not just that, she vaguely remembered telling him something about her revenge! He couldn’t know about that just yet. She had to think of an excuse. And how did she even end up rambling all that to him?!

_You’ve gone so far Ara!_

Hamon stopped patting her back as soon as she stopped coughing, "I want to hear everything you said to me last night in details. Did you...die after leaving?" He asked with his eyebrows knitted.

"Huh, died? Who died? I didn’t die, I went back to my family after I left...I was only in Greenwood because I ran away from home, and wanted to be a soldier!" She denied with a forced laugh, she’d once told him that in the past.

Hamon glared at her, "Are you telling me the truth? If that is the case, then why does it feels like you were really scared of whoever you said killed you?"

She shrugged, "I must be be telling you a story I read two days ago, it was about a woman seeking revenge, I liked the story and kept it in my mind, maybe that’s why I babbled about it." She lied with a smile while scolding herself.

_Stupid! Was it only a sedative or did Cassius add something else to it?_

A sedative would only make her sleep, but she’d become delirious and babbled nonsense to Hamon before falling unconscious.

"So are you telling me, you didn’t die then?" He asked as if to confirm again.

"Yes, of course." She hurriedly nodded. Hamon’s tensed face finally loosened and spoke in a soft voice, "Thank heavens, if someone had really killed you...I’d have hunted him down and killed the person with my own hands in this lifetime."

Ara sighed in relief as he believed her. She couldn’t tell him the reason she was marrying him was because she wanted to kill his uncle to stop her family’s ruin. She wondered why he even cared this much about her, but she was certain he wouldn’t care about her enough to kill his own uncle just for her sake, so it was no use letting him know.

Hamon continued with a displeased voice, "Now that you’ve explained that, there is one more thing left. What the heck did Cassius give you that made you act like that last night? And you even went to meet him without letting me know?" There was a fierce look in Hamon’s eyes.

Ara didn’t want to cause a war with the queen yet, so she decided not to tell him about Cassius offers or the intentions for inviting her to the party. She knew Hamon’s temper wasn’t so easy to cool,

"He didn’t do anything, we just had a talk. When I got there, they were people consuming something, am not sure what it was though." It wasn’t completely a lie, she’d seen some consuming and sniffing something.

"Hmm." He hummed with a thoughtful expression, "All this while I knew Cassius was up to something in his stupid parties, but I didn’t bother myself with him...But now I’ll have to fully investigate his parties. I am glad you brought us a clue." He patted her head. Something he’d been doing lately.

She didn’t tell him about Cassius using sedatives and the drugs on her. Because the last time someone claimed to have bedded her, Hamon had beheaded the man. Cassius would surely be dealt with, but she thought it would be better to keep that a secret for now to avoid

waging war against the queen.

"Then what happened to you last night? Did you go close to the things they were consuming? I only let Cassius go last night because he said he didn’t do anything to you, is that true?" He questioned.

"Yes, that’s right...But Hamon, Cassius was in the room when the thing was burning, but it didn’t affect him in anyway."

Hamon’s eyebrows raised, "What room?"

"I mean, I saw him in a room with the smoke, but he seemed quite fine without passing out."

Ara hadn’t suspected Cassius was up to something, as she knew they were both in the room if he burned something to take advantage of her, it would affect him too, but he looked fine the whole time the thing was weakening her body...

"Hmm, he must have taken something. I will look more into that." He responded, but didn’t look happy about it. Ara sensing his mood, she glanced at his eyes, "Why do you look unhappy? This might be of help, since we now know where his parties take place. You can send your men to investigate."

"Why should I look happy when I couldn’t punish that brat again this time? And you, don’t ever hide such a thing from me again, I almost destroyed the whole building because I was looking for you." He scolded.

His words surprised her for a moment, but eventually smiled, at least he cared about her, "Don’t worry, you will become king soon and punish him however you wish."

A frown drew on his forehead, "Who said I was worried about becoming king? What would have happened if I wasn’t there and you collapsed inside the party with all those spoiled brats there? Did you know what you did was dangerous?"

"Hamon, Merek was in the building the whole time, so why did you even come there in the first place? Nothing would have happened even though you didn’t come." Ara retorted, but that didn’t help at all, his frown deepened as if he wanted to say something but decided not, and only ended up saying,

"Fine, sleep more. I’ll call a physician to check you up since you came in contact with what he burned."

"No, there is no need, I have to return home."

"Don’t worry, I’ve sent a letter to Anne letting her know you are with me." Hamon reassured and carefully pushed her back to lay on the bed and drew the blanket up to her chin, he then adjusted the pillow supporting her head, "I’ll make you more of the special tea, just don’t get out of bed yet." He patted her head and left the room.

Ara couldn’t help but smile, she couldn’t remember the last time someone treated her in such a way.
