Chapter 114: The inner thoughts

Hamon didn’t waste anymore time at the party and quickly took Ara with him straight to the palace. As he walked along the corridors of his residence with Ara in his arms. She had been sleeping and waking up. He had no idea what happened to her in the party.

Ara slightly opened her hazy eyes, trying to focus on a clear image but everything seemed distorted. Her condition made her stay quiet and let him carry her to wherever he was taking her to, she didn’t feel panic nor fear knowing that it was Hamon holding her, the drug was now taking it’s effect. She tried to suppress it, but she couldn’t dull it completely. The more time passed, the more her body felt like jelly.

"Hamon..." She called softly.

He glanced down at her in his arms, "Hmm." He hummed and adjusted his arms to support her better. He’d been holding her the entire ride in the carriage.

"Hamon...I feel tired, I want to just sleep...Will you stay with me while I sleep?" She asked as she looked up at him with her eyes slightly opened.

"Hmm...I’ll stay with you." He replied, he wanted to ask her what happened to her back in the party, but held back as he saw how she’d been drifting off to sleep and waking up.

Ara felt like she was floating in the air as he walked. However, her thoughts were all over the the place, her thoughts suddenly went back to the past when she left Greenwood. She left because she blamed Hamon for her family’s death as well, because she thought if he hadn’t abandoned the kingdom Cornell would never had become king and killed her precious family.

But after she left, she’d lived a more miserable life than before she met Hamon. She started to live only for revenge and every other sense of reason blurred away, she couldn’t see anything else, nor could she think about anything other than her deep hatred and the mission of revenge which she staked her life on. But looking back at everything now, she wouldn’t have lived or become this stronger if Hamon had never came in to her life in the first place. She would never have been able to protect herself in the dark world filled with bloodshed she had plunged herself into for the sake of revenge had Hamon not made her stronger.

Ara started to ramble without realizing it, "Hamon...After I left Greenwood did you have any idea what I went through?"

She left and lived alone and went through hell.

Hamon glanced down at her again without saying anything, but Ara continued in a soft murmur, "I would starve for weeks and stay out in the cold...But when I decided to end everything by killing him, he killed me instead, he coldheartedly took off my head..."

Hamon, who had been listening quietly until now suddenly stopped in his tracks, he glanced down at her with his eyes slightly trembling, "Who killed you? Did you die in the past?"

Hamon’s voice sounded like a dream to Ara’s ears, she continued on with her hazy eyes as she leaned even closer to his chest and wrapped her arms around his neck as if seeking comfort, "He killed me and I couldn’t take my revenge...I’ve lived for only that, but in the end, I died."

Hamon’s already frowned eyebrows deepened even more. Did she die after leaving? But who killed her? And what revenge was she talking about? He resumed to walk, and soon he reached his room and pushed the door opened while still carrying Ara.

Ara continued with her rambling, "When he placed his blade around my neck, I knew at that moment that everything was over...If I wanted to escape, I would have, but even if I did escape...there was nothing waiting for me, but loneliness and pain..."

Hamon carefully sat on his bed while placing her on his lap as he quietly continued to listen to her without a word.

"You know...if you were there, I wouldn’t have died, but you weren’t there with me...He killed me." She murmured the last words with her eyes closed.

Hamon looked down at Ara in disbelief. Was she really serious or just rambling? Who killed her? Was that why he couldn’t find her even after searching for years?

She continued, "I still want to kill him before he kills them again. I won’t let that happen again in this lifetime. And after that...I don’t care what happens to me, even if it means I’ll die again in the process..."

"Who do you want to kill this badly? I will never let you die while I still live. No harm will befall on you as long as I live." He whispered softly to her as he drew her even more to his embrace. He didn’t know what she was talking about, but he’d never let anything happen to her. She was his life, he lived only for her. Without Arabella...Hamon was nothing but an empty shell.

Hamon gently placed a lingering kiss on her forehead as he stroked her red hair as if to assure her he’d always be there for her.

"Hamon...I am glad you are my partner, I feel safe whenever you are around...You feel like home and warm."

Hamon smiled gently and turned to place her down on the bed, but Ara held tightly to his neck, and refused to let go as if she was afraid he’d disappear if she moved, "I want to sleep like this, Hamon. Please let me sleep like this..."

Hamon didn’t protest and carefully sat back down with Ara on his lap, he cradled her closer.

"Thank you, Hamon..."

At the end of her words she succumbed to sleep. Hamon’s arms were like a shield that protected her from any harm in the world. For the first time, Ara let her guard down and drifted off to dream land with no worries. As Hamon gently stroked her hair.

She heard his voice fading away, "I will always lo_" that was all she heard before falling completely into sweet dream land.
