When Did I Become An Artifact Dealer?! -
Chapter 64: Snow
Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Snow
"I’LL CUT YOUR TONGUE OUT!" Sirae’s face looked twisted and poisonous.
Cail shrugged. "You two could make a great couple—" Then Cail was cut off by the thread that suddenly wrapped around his arm.
Then the thread tightened. Cail vowed that his arm looked like a sausage for a split second, but fortunately, despite being sluggish, he could still react.
His hand grasped the thread. He realized that it was a mix of void energy thread and a real one. Clever. He mobilized his void energy and ripped the thread off. He looked up and saw a lot more coming toward him.
"Damn, Inshi, is this what you define as a weak girl?" Cail dodged. Then he felt a blaze behind him. He was quick to roll over, but he got a feeling that standing up again would be a challenge.
"Siri! Calm yourself down. The Chairman wants us to get this guy alive. We just need to wait for him." That fire attack was aimed not just at Cail but also at Sirae.
Cail heard that. Actually, he could have not rolled on the ground, as that fire was pure void energy. It wouldn’t affect him, but it could drain his void energy. He planned to use his resistance as a trump card.
The Chairman? Cail, after hearing that name, did not feel good. That sounded like a big guy.
Of course, Cail now had no idea how many ’big guys’ he was already involved with, but that was a problem for future him.
Sirae calmed down to Cail’s dismay, but he wasn’t discouraged. He looked back to Saeb. "Tell me... what does it feel like being the golden boy? All applause, no bruises. Do you even bleed?" It wasn’t a taunt, but a genuine question.
Saeb narrowed his eyes. "Why don’t you try?" But the glistening fire on his sword was an indicator that he would slice Cail the moment he came close.
Cail laughed. "Hehehe—" then...
BANG!
That was quick. It headed toward the center of Saeb’s eyebrows. Saeb was quick. He was able to use his sword as a shield. That move required precision and speed.
Cail wasn’t aiming for a kill. Based on how dense this guy’s void energy was, Cail knew that this Saeb was strong.
He took something out from the space and smashed it on the ground. It was the same smoke bomb that he had used on Neris.
Saeb backed off, but the smoke bomb seemed to blend with the smoke coming from the greenhouse.
"This—" Saeb felt a suppression. But...
"This isn’t enough!"
A blazing fire shot up from where he was standing. Cail could feel the heat. Saeb was fighting the suppression. Cail was a level lower than him. Saeb was already a Warden.
Seeing the moving inferno, Cail thought, "If he is not suppressed, how intense this flame might it be?"
It was a bit scary, but it fueled Cail’s envy. One could say that if Saeb unfortunately landed in Cail’s hands in the future, his fate would be worse than death. Cail’s twisted mentality was a bit scarier.
Cail’s smile under the mask widened. This is it.
He rushed toward Saeb with a kick. Saeb was caught off guard that someone managed to approach him despite the flames. Cail’s aim was towards the sword, but damn, Saeb’s grip was tight.
They exchanged blows. Cail opted for hand-to-hand combat, but his void energy was getting lower.
His aim was to stop this guy from either killing him or restraining him before that Chairman arrived.
Cail was already severely weakened. Saeb noticed that void energy attacks didn’t seem to work on him. So he manipulated the fire coming from the greenhouse and tried to attack Cail with it.
The blazing fire formed a sword. With Cail focused on the physical one in Saeb’s hand, Saeb gripped the fire sword and slashed it at Cail.
"Miscalculation..." Cail gritted his teeth when he felt the heat.
All his enemies before had been around the Conductor level. He forgot that once you’re a Warden, your void energy becomes prone to mutations.
Cail was quick to back away, but he was burned. His arms were charred and bleeding. Cail muttered his usual mantra, "Oh, my karma."
With Cail being out of sorts, Saeb kicked him in the stomach.
"Fucker." That kick made the already poking bone pierce an organ. Was it the lungs or something? Cail had no idea, but when he was slammed near the bridge, Cail knew that he had succeeded.
He was crawling at this point. He was mentally cursing Virehn’s ancestors and everyone he met today.
Then he felt he was being dragged. He looked down and saw a thread wrapping around his ankles and digging into his flesh. This Sirae wanted to drag him back onto the battlefield.
"Evil girl," Cail said. He grasped the thread and ripped it off. The ’ordinary thread’ wasn’t ordinary at all. Cail could sense that it was an artifact. Was this the artifact that got Inshi burned?
Since he wasn’t coming over, Saeb and Sirae went to him. They were now on a bridge.
Cail grabbed a steel plate board and smacked the thread that was nearing him.
Saeb appeared like a ghost. He threw a swing at Cail; it was followed by a kick. He wanted to use a more destructive move, but the bridge was brittle. It was even creaking at the slightest movement.
"You fight like you were trained. Of course, that’s a fact. Let me guess... full education, private tutors, a nice manor view?" Cail said as he blocked Saeb’s blows and the threads.
The bridge was wooden. It seemed to be a tourist spot. Saeb didn’t dare use fire.
Seeing that the fight dragged on like this, Saeb realized that this helmeted man is a good fighter. Despite being weak and injured, this man’s attacks were desperate and lethal. Saeb couldn’t find a way to restrain him. He was also cautious about the randomly appearing gun and why this man wasn’t affected by void energy.
Actually, if Saeb’s aim was to kill him, Cail would have had a difficult time, but Saeb’s goal was to restrain him. This was both a good and bad thing. Good because Saeb didn’t use a lethal attack; bad because Saeb seemed to be very clearheaded at this moment.
"You’re good," Saeb praised. But that compliment triggered Cail all of a sudden.
It was like a broken dam. His emotions rushed out.
"You ever crawl through junkyards, Saeb? Have you ever bitten someone out of desperation? Have you tasted flesh? You know, after biting someone, the taste of flesh and blood lingers," Cail shared all of a sudden.
Saeb was a bit taken aback. He had never tried that. He had been trained professionally since young, and battles were usually conducted in controlled environments.
"You were born with strength. I built mine with spite." Cail suddenly looked him in the eye.
It was a bold move, but Cail managed to grab Saeb’s collar and slammed his helmet on Saeb’s head. It was headbutt.
The barely clinging helmet cover shattered a bit. It didn’t reveal his face, but his eyes peeked out.
Saeb was stunned the moment he saw those eyes.
It was a look filled with insanity and pure brutality.
This was his first contact with a monster.
Cail smiled. He leaned toward the fragile support beam of the bridge.
He took out his rifle. "One bullet left. Who do you think this is for?"
Cail pointed the rifle at the other side of the bridge rope. Sirae, who was supporting Saeb from a distance, saw his intention.
"NO!" Her eyes widened. She tried to run back to the ground, but Cail didn’t give her time.
The moment the bullet hit the rope, the bridge collapsed.
Saeb finally awakened after that intense immersion. He grabbed the falling bridge.
As for Cail, he didn’t grab onto anything. He fell down freely.
Looking at the sky, Cail felt calm from the breeze and the feeling of lightness. He saw Saeb clinging to the rope of the bridge, and as for Sirae, she was using her thread to support herself.
Cail closed his eyes as he felt his fall.
The moment he hit the ground, he didn’t shatter into a pile of meat, but he was caught by gentle snow.
"Sweetie, you look utterly pathetic now."
