When Did I Become An Artifact Dealer?!
Chapter 101 - 102: Silencing

Chapter 101: Chapter 102: Silencing

From an outside perspective, Cail simply touched the necklace and stared blankly into the air. For some reason, all of them held their breath as they waited for something to happen.

Just as they thought there would be some grand spectacle, the man in glasses suddenly kicked the table, breaking one of its legs and causing the necklace to tumble to the ground.

Cail finally snapped out of the enchantment; his gaze was colder than before. He bent down and picked up the necklace, not caring that others were watching, and stashed it in his space.

Seeing the leader agape, Cail tried to calm his anger, but it was still evident in his tone.

"Tell your Lord that the mission has failed. Go back. If he asks why, tell him the necklace is sentient."

Cail grabbed a seat, crossed his arms, and rubbed his head. During that encounter, despite the woman’s beauty, all Cail could feel was a sense of annoyance. He hated anyone invading his personal space.

Although he wasn’t particularly sensitive to touch, as long as he knew someone was about to touch him or was already doing so, he was typically fine with it. But if someone suddenly popped up and invaded his space, all supposed allure turned to irritation.

The leader was confused, staring blankly, prompting Cail to order him again:

"Call your leader now. Tell them what you said. Don’t say that I’m here. If you dare, I’ll pop your head like a balloon."

Cail’s aura now looked extremely menacing, as if he were on the verge of exploding. His orders sounded suspicious, but the leader didn’t dare question them. Organizations like Hollow Accord didn’t inspire much loyalty. As long as they could benefit and survive, you were the boss.

And this time, Cail seemed to be radiating murderous intent, and the leader didn’t want to contradict him.

He took out his phone and repeated Cail’s words to his Lord. When the Lord asked, "How did you know?" he glanced in Cail’s direction... only to realize that Cail was already standing beside him.

Cail grabbed the phone and turned it off. He handed the phone back to the leader, rubbed his head, and leaned against the wall. Tilting his head, he looked at the leader.

"Let your subordinates leave. I need to talk to you about the artifact. Don’t worry about the cancelled call. I’ll go with you and talk to your Lord face-to-face."

The leader wasn’t suspicious. A fraud wouldn’t be this bold, right? Besides, he was confident in his combat ability.

"You guys, leave."

Since the leader had spoken, the others passed through the wall, melting into nothingness. It was a bit unexpected, given that they had entered from above but exited to the side.

Cail crossed his arms."Are you sure they can’t hear us now?"

"I’m sure. This space has special insulation," the leader replied, glancing at the wall.

That moment of distraction was enough for Cail.

BANG!

He fired his rifle. The leader was confused; he touched his forehead and saw it was bleeding.

BANG. BANG. BANG!

Cail saw that he still wasn’t down, so he fired another round of bullets. He had learned to mix enhanced and non-enhanced rounds. First, fire the enhanced bullet, and if it didn’t penetrate the skull, fire a regular one to push it deeper.

Aiming at an existing bullet hole was difficult, but at this distance, Cail managed. The bullet finally pierced the leader’s skull. His massive body slumped to the ground.

Cail put his rifle back in his storage.

"I should really buy a silencer," he muttered, nudging the dead leader with his foot. He turned on his glasses and switched to third gear.

He could see a faint, almost dissipating thread emerging from the leader’s body. Cail quickly grabbed it. The leader was around the same level as Cail... just a bit higher. Mid-rank.

"When a person dies, their body really does release void energy like a popped balloon."

Cail absorbed the remaining void energy from the leader. It wasn’t much, but mosquito meat is still meat.

But draining them while they are still alive is best, but Cail’s concerns about that approach is that, the thread can only be touch a certain distance. Meaning he need to come close to his target. Melee fighting is not his style.

"Maybe poison would do?" That could actually work, but only for people that is already familiar with him. Close enough that they would be willing to drink or eat anything that he would offer.

Afterward, he wandered around the room and took out papers and documents. As he did so, his mind drifted to the woman he had seen earlier.

Despite her seductive beauty, Cail didn’t have a good impression of her. He didn’t understand how men in stories were so willing to kiss women of unknown origin. Weren’t they afraid of diseases? Or what if the person they kissed was a painted skin ghost?

Cail had grown up in a relatively chaotic environment and knew how dirty the prostitutes in the slums were. While he didn’t judge them... most had difficult backgrounds, it was true that having sex with them increased the risk of STDs.

That woman seemed to be some kind of spirit. But who knew? What if that kiss was meant to suck his void energy? Or maybe it was poisonous? Cail also suspected that everyone around him had malicious intentions.

He was just too paranoid for that kind of indulgence.

"Others might think dying in a beautiful woman’s embrace is the pinnacle of peace.. a worthy end... but to me, that just sounds pathetic."

He finally finished ransacking the place. Dealing with those subordinates had been easy. The strongest among them was a mid-Conductor. That was no issue for Cail. The necklace was his biggest concern.

But the existence of that woman made him hesitant to take the necklace out and inspect it. Maybe after finding a suitable place, he’d investigate what was going on. But for now, that seductress needed to stay obediently inside the necklace.
