Chapter 534 - 534: They Brought Big Guns

Shit…

"Ries, give me a sitrep."

"Umm… We're currently surrounded… Ah, Boss already dealt with all the people on your side so there's no issue there! Lea and I are dealing with the group across the street so that leaves the front and back. Thankfully that guy's security forces are holding them back for now but they aren't going to last long against them."

I grimaced, "We'll have to split up… Where's the tank?"

"At the front, Boss. Are you…"

"I'm kitted out to deal with threats like that right? I'll handle that side. Amber?"

She waved at me, "I'll go deal with the ones behind with Mara."

I nodded at her, "Be careful."

Amber smirked at me, "If you weren't in that suit I would be kissing you right now for saying something like that. I suppose we'll have to wait~"

Right…

We separated and ran towards our respective targets.

On the way, I caught a glimpse of Deviminio's group that were still walking through the streets acting as though nothing was happening.

They could definitely hear the explosions and gunshots for sure but I'm assuming they are trying to act like nothing was wrong on purpose. Additionally, the video they were streaming might be edited in real time to take out any other sounds just to give the illusion that everything was fine.

They're really trying to push as far as they can aren't they?

Whatever, this is beneficial for me anyway so I wasn't going to complain.

I charged ahead to look for the tank in question and I didn't have to look too hard because an explosion up ahead revealed where the fight was happening.

I dashed out of the alley and onto the main street, only to find several of Deviminio's security team using cars as shields while they tried to return fire at the thugs advancing towards them.

At the other end of the street was a literal hover tank that was slowly floating its way towards the cars while several thugs were accompanying its advance.

They even had two guys in power armour too with an armoured car bringing up the rear.

What is this? Like is this some kind of private military group or something? How the heck can you get a hover tank within the station?!

This is even my first time seeing a tank as well!!

Ah, I guess I did see a spider tank when I first met Ries but that one wasn't activated so that doesn't count.

But wait, these guys can't be seriously expecting themselves to be able to stop that tank by themselves are they?

I ran up to them and about half of them turned back to point their guns at me before someone shouted, "Wait, wait! This one's on our side!"

Ah, it's the guy I found on the roof.

The others relaxed and turned back to face the tank advancing towards them and I found it weird because neither side was shooting and despite hearing an explosion earlier, there doesn't seem to be any damage.

"What's going on here?" I asked, going to the guy who recognised me.

He pointed at the armoured car behind the tank, "You see that car? It's projecting a shield around it that covers their entire group. Apparently it blocks any projectile and even the anti armour rocket we fired at it had no effect. But I guess they can't shoot out of the shield as well which is why they aren't shooting either…"

Sure enough, when I scanned the group, my HUD showed that there was some kind of dome shaped barrier surrounding the group.

I frowned, "What? Are they planning to just slowly move on top of you guys and roll over you or something?"

"We don't know… We could walk through the shield but since it's an open area with nowhere to hide…" He trailed off and pointed down the street.

I peeked out and found several dead bodies of the security team laying at the side of the road.

Those guys must have tried to run into the shield but got gunned down instead.

Well… I only have confidence in taking on a tank if I had the advantage of range since I would be a smaller target and could use other things as cover… But if I were to run out there and get inside the shield, I would definitely be shot down as well…

Shit… Maybe Amber and Mara taking care of this would be better?

No, they can't use their powers in front of these guys either…

I turned back to the guy, "What do you guys have here? Anything that can take down the tank?"

He gestured at the crates behind him, "Anti armour rockets. Though to be honest, we weren't expecting them to bring a tank so I don't know if these are enough to deal with the tank since these are meant for power armour…"

I peeked over the cars to check the advancing group. They were still at least a few hundred metres away and they were advancing really slowly.

Either this was the maximum speed they could go or they were just waiting for Deviminio's group to show up because they couldn't stop moving or retreat as that would show the viewers that there was something wrong.

That means I'm also on a time limit to deal with this…

Ok, ok… Let me think…

I looked around and my eyes were drawn to the buildings on the sides of the street.

The idea of shooting their walls and causing the building to fall on top of them came to me but that would probably not be good for the camera crew to capture as well… But what if…

I turned to the security team, "I have an idea! Be ready to shoot at them the moment the shield goes down!"

They seemed confused but didn't question me and simply gave me a nod.

I ran back to the first building I had fought in and went up another flight of stairs on the other side of the building that wasn't destroyed by the grenade.

The box that held the rocket launcher was where I had left it and I quickly picked it up before running back there again.

Sorry Ries, but I'll be using this. There's still one more in the opposite building so I'll take that one for her later.

Instead of heading for the street, I went to the building closest to the group and climbed up the stairs once more until I was above the group.

Checking to make sure no one down there had seen me, I climbed up onto the railing and jumped off, trusting in the power armour Ries made for me to be able to take this fall without breaking my legs.

I held the rocket launcher and aimed it at the armoured car behind the tank, waiting for myself to fall through the shield before I fired it at the armoured car.

The sound of the rocket finally got the thugs' attention and they looked up, only to gape at me as they saw a power armour falling right towards them.

The rocket struck the armoured car and there was a burst of static which must have come from the EMP that disabled the electronic systems around before the car exploded into a ball of fire.

With the armoured car gone, the shield also fizzled out of existence which left this group completely vulnerable.

I was worried that the security team might have completely missed my appearance and wouldn't start shooting but thankfully that didn't seem to be the case as several guys popped out from behind the car and fired.

The thugs were completely caught off guard by my appearance so we had the advantage of surprise, the first salvo of rockets taking out both power armour thugs and also exploding against the front of the tank.

Unfortunately, that guy had been right about their rockets being insufficient since the tank only wobbled slightly from the impact but remained where it was.

I tossed the rocket launcher away right as I did a three point landing behind the tank, smashing onto the ground with enough force to cause a small shockwave to explode outwards from me.

The thugs that had been unfortunate enough to be near my landing zone got blown away but I wasn't focused on dealing with them for now.

I spun back around and levelled my left arm at the back of the tank, lining up my Heavy Cannons at said tank before firing.

The kinetic shell blasted through the back armour and I must have hit its ammo storage because it then exploded with enough force to send the turret flying upwards and the bottom crashing down into the ground.

The turret flipped several times in the air before it crashed on top of the building, embedding itself into it.

Whoops… Whoever that house was, hope you like having a tank turret as part of your wall I guess?

Gunshots started ringing out around me as the security team opened fire on the remaining thugs, most of them scrambling for cover as the absence of the shield meant they were now standing out in the open with nothing to protect them.

Right, time for my miniguns to get to work as well~
