Chapter 533 - 533: They Prepared A Lot

The thumping of footsteps got louder and I turned just in time for the first guy to turn around the corner.

He skidded to a stop the moment he saw my miniguns revving up with their barrels pointed at him.

A hail of lead blasted through him and shredded both him and the guy directly behind him into pieces, both of them falling onto the ground in a pool of blood.

I advanced towards the stairs even as shouts of alarm came from around the corner, most likely from the thugs behind them as they were surprised by their friends being shredded right in front of them.

"Fuck! They were expecting us! Who has a grenade or something? I'll toss it there and scatter them!" One of them shouted from around the corner.

They thought there was an entire team hiding around the corner huh? I guess that's not too surprising since they wouldn't expect someone in power armour perched up here.

I reached the stairs and turned just as the guy in front activated a ball shaped object which I assumed was a grenade.

He looked up and his jaw dropped when he saw me standing in front of him.

The thugs behind him also let out a collective gulp as my minigun revved up again.

"Anti-armo--"

I fired my minigun to eviscerate the crowd of thugs in front of me, all of them toppling over like dominoes falling down the stairs.

The people at the lower flight of stairs turned and ran down the stairs to escape from me.

But unfortunately for them, the grenade their comrade had activated had rolled down the stairs after them.

An explosion rocked through the stairs and I felt the ground under me shake.

I was expecting that to be it but the floor under me suddenly gave way and I found myself falling through the floor.

I felt my stomach lurch and I panicked a little before my feet smashed onto the ground on the floor below me.

The shock absorbers from the power armour soaked up the impact so thankfully, I didn't feel a thing.

Just as I was about to relax, however, I felt the floor crack again and I looked down just in time for it to collapse, bringing me down another floor.

There was a scream from below right before the sound of someone getting crushed quickly drowned out the scream and I guess I must have crushed some thugs underneath.

That wasn't the end either as the impact caused the next floor to break as well and I fell all the way down to the ground floor.

Thankfully, the building was only four stories high so I didn't fall that far and the power armour helped me absorb all the impact from the fall.

But that wasn't my worry as a crack came from the building and the entire stairwell tethered backwards before the entire thing came crumbling down, crushing anyone else that had been inside it.

Ok… So err… One grenade basically took out the entire group over there… And I wasn't even the one who threw that grenade…

I guess this just goes to show how crappy the buildings are around here…

At least only the stairwell collapsed so the building was still standing and there's another set of stairs on the other side.

"Boss!!" Ries's voice came from the comms.

I was about to ask her why she was shouting when my HUD showed a red dot heading straight towards me from the side.

I spun around just in time to see a power armour charging at me with some kind of chainsaw sword in their hand.

The sword slashed through the space that I had been occupying just moments ago, missing me by mere inches.

In retaliation, I brought up my left arm to point at my attacker.

I had already expected to meet enemies in power armour so my left hand was equipped with the double barrelled Heavy Cannon which I fired at them.

The kinetic shell blasted flew towards the enemy power armour's chest and it looked like it would punch a hole through their torso until the guy in power armour suddenly jumped to the side with inhuman speed to avoid it.

The shell ended up punching a hole through the building behind it and even breaking through the entire length of the building so the hole stretched from one side all the way to the other end.

Damn… If that had hit, it would have definitely blown a hole through this guy and also taken out at least a few of the walls behind him too.

He lunged towards me before I could line up the second shot and I was too close to deploy any of my guns.

Instead, I brought up my right arm and activated the Wave Blade, the sword made out of energy materialising itself in front of my fist and allowing me to cut off the chainsaw sword that the guy had swung towards me.

He looked down at his sword in shock right before I thrust my fist forward, plunging the blade straight into the helmet and slicing through the pilot's head.

The enemy power armour stiffened before it stopped moving and I assume that the pilot was already dead and the power armour simply locked itself up, allowing it to stand upright even when the person inside was deceased.

I pulled back my fist right as I heard a high pitched whining noise coming from behind.

Spinning around, only to see a rocket currently heading straight towards me.

Oh shit.

I reacted instinctively by slashing out my right arm that still had the Wave Blade materialised and I ended up cutting the rocket into half.

The two pieces exploded in the air in front of me but my shield took most of the impact and I was left unscathed.

I then saw something fly over my head and it took me a moment to realise it was a glass container with fire inside of them.

The container flew right towards a pair of thugs who were the ones who had fired the rocket at me, the container shattering right above them and spewing fire that immediately consumed them.

I looked back to see Amber with her hand stretched outwards, acting like she was just holding the pose of throwing the container but I knew she was just controlling the fire to burn them.

But really… Was it necessary to burn them? We could have just shot them…

"Oh hi, Amber," I greeted her casually, like we weren't in a war zone right now.

She grinned, "Don't worry, Tera! I got your back!"

I looked up right as more thugs came from around the corner behind Amber and she pulled out her twin pistols and leapt up in the air over the newcomers.

The thugs gaped at her as she spun through the air before she started shooting her pistols, nailing several of the thugs in the head while she was in the air.

I didn't get to see how that ended as thumping sounds came from behind me and I had to turn away from Amber's fight to see three guys in power armour turning around the other corner.

Seriously? You guys had like a day to prepare for this and you guys managed to prepare this many power armours too?! Were these people just hiding on this Ring and were waiting to be called up to do this or something?!

I raised my Heavy Cannon and immediately fired a round at the lead guy before he could react to me, the kinetic shell blasting through his shield and punching a hole through his chest which sent him flying towards the wall.

The other two immediately raised their own weapons and started shooting at me, the one on the left using two autocannons while the one on the right had dual miniguns.

I decided to close the distance as I activated sprint mode and avoided the autocannon rounds while trusting my shield to protect me from the minigun.

My shield flared to life even as the bullets bounced off my shield, the shield bar on my HUD dropping slightly

I activated the second Wave Blade and slashed at the minigun power armour's arm, slicing through the armour and flesh like I was cutting through tofu.

I then swung my other arm in a horizontal slash, cutting through the guy's waist and separating him into half.

The other power armour pulled out something on his hip and he activated it to reveal it was some kind of energy baton which he tried to use it to smack me with.

I brought up my left hand to block it before stabbing my right hand forward to pierce through the neck of the power armour, the blade piercing all the way through to emerge from behind his neck.

There was a soft gurgle coming from within the helmet before it went still, prompting me to pull back right as the top half of the other thug fell to the ground with a loud thud.

Right as I was thinking about looking for more enemies, Ries's voice came from the comms again.

"Boss? They err… They have a tank."
